10 Minute Walk To Niagara Falls

A quick walk, half a mile, to the Falls themselves. FREE Wi-FI. Conveniently located near a supermarket and public transportation. The Great Gorge Guesthouse is one half of a duplex. The Niagara Falls Retreat is the guesthouse next door. It is located in the Park Place Historic District, across the street from the Niagara Falls Aquarium. The house is a 2-family duplex and you will be staying in one side. We are in a urban area that is being revitalized and is a half mile from Niagara Falls. The house was built in 1910 - it is not new and shiny - it has old house quirks.

At Great Gorge Guesthouse, you can:

* Relax in the large common area.

* Prepare your own meals in the fully stocked kitchen.

* Access free WI-FI anywhere in the house.

The house has three bedrooms and one bathroom on the second floor. The large living and dining area and kitchen are on the first floor. It is fully furnished for you to make yourselves at home. The kitchen is stocked with all the items you need to make your own meals if you wish. If you are not into cooking, there are restaurants 1 block away on Third Street and more nearer the Falls.

The second floor has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom.

There is free parking available in the driveway next to the house.

Since this is a whole house rental, we usually do not see the guests very much if at all though we are only 5 minutes away if they need anything.

The house is situated in the Park Place Historic District within a typical rust belt city. It is a national historic district located at Niagara Falls in Niagara County, New York. It encompasses 89 contributing buildings. It is principally a residential district built up between 1885 and 1928. The dominant architectural styles are Italianate, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, and Arts and Crafts.

This an urban environment with a diverse racial and socioeconomic population. While many of the big old houses in the area are lovely and well maintained, there are others that are neglected or empty. It is an area that is slowly being brought back to life with new people and energy.

The bus stop is 2 blocks from the house. The Niagara Falls State Park Trolley stop is a 5 min. walk from the house at the Discovery Center.

Excellent comfort and convenient to areas of interest

Everything was tidy and clean. The master bed was very comfortable as well as the couch in the living room. We felt slightly uneasy in the neighborhood as it looked delapidated, but seemed safe enough. Overall we had a pleasant experience.

Glad you had a pleasant stay. We know the area can be a bit off-putting so we try to make everyone aware of that in our listing. Niagara Falls, like many rust belt cities has gone through some hard times. Population has dropped by over half. But, we are trying to bring it back to life, fixing up one house at a time and people like yourselves coming and staying in vacation rentals helps us do that - thanks!

We stayed at this older home near Niagara Falls and found it exactly as described. The biggest plus was the **location**—it’s within easy walking distance of the falls, plenty of restaurants, and lots of shopping. There’s even a free shuttle stop conveniently right across the street, which made getting around a breeze.The house itself has plenty of charm and was comfortable for our needs. I didn’t realize ahead of time that there’s no dishwasher, but that’s on me. (We made do just fine, and as a bonus, Walmart delivers right to the house, which was super handy for stocking up on snacks and essentials.)All in all, we had a great stay and would happily recommend this spot for anyone wanting to be close to all the Niagara action without breaking the bank.

Lovely living area in an old house. Great owners. Beds might have been a bit more comfortable.

My only issue with my experience is that I had no idea how run down the area was and that the crime rate was so high. If this house was in a different location it would have been perfect.

We are happy you found the house "perfect". The City of Niagara Falls itself is not perfect. We try to be clear in our description that we are in a rust belt city with rust belt city issues. It can be a bit of a shock for people coming from the country, like yourselves. However, in the years we have been renting this house, none of our thousands of guests have ever had a problem with crime. The neighborhood which is a 10 minute walk to the Falls is slowly being revitalized and tourists are part of that revitalization. Thank you for staying with us.

Perfect Place with Character

Our family of four had a lovely time at this duplex. We found it a great way to avoid fighting parking and hotels while having a kitchen. We have traveled to Europe and are very used to adventure experiences when we stay. We take it in stride and cherish the funky times. The listing disclosed all truths. The neighborhood has houses in various states of care. We just found it to be an old neighborhood. We felt fine walking to and from Niagara Falls at all hours. The bathroom was a little snug for four people, but we laughed a lot and it got the job done. Beds were very comfortable. If you’re tired you can even catch the Falls fireworks from the stairwell window! This place suites our needs for our short trip.

An older home, with a few minor issues

This is an older home, in a rundown neighborhood. It was a little disconcerting when we first came in, that there was a homeless man sleeping right in front across the street on an empty bench. Nothing happened, but it didn't feel safe enough to walk anywhere, so we drove and paid for parking in spite of being close. It was big enough for our family of four, nice downstairs area. Recently painted. If you have allergies though, avoid it. Lots of dust, mold and mildew upstairs and no A/C in April (they have window units that only get installed in summer, which is not noted on website). Pillows and towels could use replacing (pillows thin, stained and old, towels are skunked). Upstairs doors could really use some WD40 to keep them from squeaking. Otherwise, the owners are super nice, easy to work with and the house was decent and close.

We really appreciate your feedback so we that we can improve our house and clarify points for future guests. We clean the house between every guest so there shouldn't have been any dust, and there definitely isn't any mold or mildew. But it is an old house. We will immediately take a look at the bedding situation and replace any that are found wanting. The heating and A/C situation IS clearing stated in the listing. We have radiators for heat, so there can not be any central air-conditioning. Until the weather gets warm on a continuous basis, we can not put the A/C units in the windows. During the Spring and Fall, we have days when it is 75 degrees, which may be too hot for some and too cold for others, and then the next day will be 60 degrees. Regarding our location and age of our house. Our house is not a new hotel - it has its quirks. The house is situated in the Park Place Historic District within a typical rust belt city. This an urban environment with a diverse racial and socioeconomic population. Great experience

This was our first booking through Vrbo and it went seamless. The owner Carroll, was very responsive and shared her contact with us right after the reservation confirmation. The checkin process was straightforward and the house was very clean. The location was great. It is across form the aquarium and is only about a 20 min walk to the Falls. Five of us stayed at this property, my husband and I, with our two young kids and my mom. We all liked the property very much. The house had several amenities; the kitchen was stocked with not only dishes, toaster and coffee maker, but also some basic groceries like oil, salt, sugar, spices, etc. The owner even had some feminine hygiene products in the bathroom, which was very thoughtful of her. Overall, a pleasing stay. Thanks.

Close to the Falls

We really enjoyed our brief stay. The house was very clean and had lots of room for the four of us. The beds were comfortable. The Falls were close by and we really enjoyed all the attractions we could squeeze into the time we had there. Niagara Falls is a friendly place and we felt comfortable walking around at night around the State Park. We enjoyed seeing all the different cultures from around the world.

Convenient Location

The house was comfortable and conveniently located to the many attractions Niagara Falls offers; some within walking distance. Otherwise it was only a short drive to Old Fort Niagara and our kayaking trip location. One bathroom worked for us, as we were a group of 3.

Great property

Everything about this place was fantastic! Super clean, enough room for a family of 6 (4 rambunctious boys and at no point did we feel like we were on top of each other), and excellent location (15 minutes walk to the falls if you meander). The owners communicated everything in a timely manner and clean up/check out was a breeze!

While we would love to have a second bathroom, this 100 year old house does not allow for that without losing a bedroom. It is clearly listed as a 3 bedroom, 1 bath house. We provide 6 towels and wash clothes (2 per bedroom/1 per guest) as well as liquid hand soap and bath gel. We are not a hotel with maid service to change towels daily; we are a vacation rental home that sleeps up to 6.

Easy walk to falls and other sites

Our family stayed here for two nights and the location was perfect for walking to the falls and other sites. Carroll shared some nice tips for other area attractions that the family enjoyed. With three bedrooms and a comfy den, our family had plenty of space to spread out and relax. The home is accurately described, with the character and quirks of an older home. We would stay here again!

Carroll spent most of her career in Human Resources but gave it all up (darn) to open a hostel in Niagara Falls- leaving the wonderful California weather behind but gaining a wonderful husband. Andre is from Germany and we found each other here! We have since expanded from the hostel and added a couple vacation rentals to our endeavors. We think they are a great alternative to a sterile hotel - more like home away from home.

The Great Gorge Guesthouse is perfectly situated across from the Aquarium and a 10 minute walk to the tip of the Falls. We are located in the historic downtown area where most of the homes are over 100 years old. There's lots of history here as well as the incredible Niagara Falls.

We are fully permitted and certified by the City of Niagara Falls that we meet all building and fire codes required to operate a vacation rental. Many listings in Niagara Falls are not legal, so be careful. Keep your family safe and be sure to book with those operators that can show you their permit and certificate of occupancy.
