Among the green hills and the outstanding Douro River the Farm of Santa Cristina has close ties with Nature here lies a land where local traditions still play an important part on people’s lives.
When it was reconstructed the house went from a cold and rough walled place to a house where comfort and privacy exist along tradition and Nature.
Casa de Santa Cristina has 3 double bedrooms with bathroom available to its guests, who may also enjoy central heating, a living room with a fireplace and satellite TV, Wi-Fi and a completely furnished kitchen where you will be able to prepare meals after a long day exploring the magnificent lands surrounding the house. There is also an old wine cellar that has been remade has a spacious room where friends and family can talk and relax. On the exterior of the house the lush green gardens are perfect to relax and to walk the steps down to the Douro River.

Nice spot

The remodeled stone structure is really something to see and I'm sure it can get a 5-star rating in the future with a little more cleaning (the home had a damp smell and lots of spider webs). Overall I really enjoyed the place but my companions were not sold on it due to the above items. The home appears to have historical significance and is well appointed with all that you would need to cook (we did) and relax (we did). It should be noted that there is a quarry nearby and truck traffic does run on nearby roads. However this was not a distraction... just don't be surprised by it.

Foi uma boa experiência , a piscina tem 3 níveis da para bebés crianças e adultos . Casa bonita bom espaço verde perto do rio e da barragem . Recomendo. 5 estrelas.

Beautiful Restored Country Farm home

We had the pleasure of staying at Casa Christina for several days during our travels in the Durro Valley area. The property is very well appointed, modern, comfortable, and interesting. The home is restored from original farm house to a perfect mix of old charm and new amenities. Cant say enough about how wonderful our stay her was. Thank you to the owner for the wonderful history of the property, and understanding of the region. This is truly a 4 Star property. Dan Beaulieu

Superbe séjour

Nous y avons passé une très belle semaine! Le propriétaire nous a accueilli chaleureusement et nous a raconté l’histoire de cette bâtisse. L’ancienne ferme est rénovée avec beaucoup de goût et les matériaux sont de très belle qualité. Des prestations chic et sans superflu. La piscine vaut, rien qu’à elle, le détour et le séjour !! La vue sur la vallée du Douro est très agréable!! Nos chiens étaient du voyage: la propriété est close et l’espace est généreux pour gambader librement. Pour un moment au calme et proche du Haut Douro et de Porto, c’est idéal !

Beautiful house in a lovely location

We stayed for a week after spending time in Porto, looking for some relaxation. The house has been beautifully converted from an old farm house and the photos do not do it justice. The main house has a large kitchen/diner, a sitting room and a bedroom with an en suite. An upper terrace leads down to two more generously sized independent bedrooms with en suites and a covered terrace with a barbecue overlooking the Douro valley. Just below this terrace is the pool which is big enough to swim in. Though unheated, it was perfect in the very hot August weather and our sons spent hours playing and swimming. The garden is extensive and lovely with wisteria around the door, rosemary, lavender, roses and vines and very private, surrounded by trees and with an open view across the valley. Evenings were quiet and peaceful. There is a pathway alongside the house leading down to a small village but the only passers by we saw were some sheep! Vera and Joachim stocked up the kitchen with essentials before we arrived and were very helpful, even leading us to the best beach beside the river a few minutes drive away and providing us with an extra fan and parasol as soon as we asked. Although in a secluded position the house is only five minutes drive from Alpendurada where there is a choice of supermarkets. There are other towns and villages close by with historic buildings, cafes and restaurants and a roman site with an interpretation centre about 30 minutes drive away. A car is essential and there is private secure parking behind the gate, though the short access way from the main road is narrow, steep and unmade. We found the peace, quiet and relaxation we were looking for in a beautifully presented property in a lovely setting and plenty of local interest for a week's stay.

Great house high above the Duoro River.

The owner of the property Montiero da Rocha met us on arrival and gave us a thorough introduction of the property. The house is laid out nicely and was well supplied(some food including fruit was there for our arrival). The property has been recently modernized under the partial direction of Mr Rocha's daughter who is an architect. The location is perfect for exploring the Duoro River valley. Tom and Barbara Walker and two other couples.
