Hill-top retreat with great views near outstanding parks and trails, easy drive to UC Berkeley and transportation. Spacious, private, charming 1 bdrm flat in the premium Montclair/Oakland Hills area nr Berkeley border with fireplace, parking, private deck & laundry. Ideal for business/academic travelers, relo's, remodelers, and extended family visits. Min stay is 31 days. I accept only 1 or 2 reservations at a time with extended check-out usually available, even if it doesn't show on the calendar. Supplemental occupancy agreement is required.

Family Friendly: Crib, high chair, inflatable toddler tub and toddler gear available.

Business Friendly: includes a 1G fiber optic WIFI, back-up power, spacious desk, additional work-area and printer.

Pet Friendly: Dogs are permitted in most cases. A separate cleaning ,refundable deposit and damage agreement are required.


Apartment is approximately 900 sq. ft., consisting of the entire lower flat in duplex, with a separate entrance, full kitchen, full bathroom, living/dining room with working fireplace, one bedroom, separate laundry room, dedicated off-street parking for 2 cars, and exclusive use of large private deck with fabulous canyon and filtered SF Bay views. Big 6-person outdoor dining table and BBQ and 2 Roku TVs with several premium channels and Bluetooth speaker.

Neighborhood is very quiet, scenic, woodsy, and family oriented. Location is a few blocks from miles of beautiful trails in the East Bay Parks network with easy access to popular cycling roads along the ridge line. About half-mile to shops and transportation in Montclair Village. Easy drive to UC Berkeley.

Tastefully furnished in comfy wine-country style. Modern kitchen has granite counters and stainless steel appliances, including gas stove. Apartment has one queen bed with pillow top mattress in spacious bedroom. Current furnishings are different but similar to those in photos. Upstairs residents are quiet, semi-retired professionals .

SF Bay breezes keep the climate cool. Air conditioning is not common in this area, and not needed even during heat waves because the apartment is built into hillside, which keeps the apartment cool.

Residence is close to Rockridge BART station (including SFO airport line), trans-bay bus line to SF, and SF carpool sites; however, area is not walk-able; car is required to get to shops and public transportation due to hillside location..

Smoking tobacco - not pot - is permitted OUTSIDE ONLY (upstairs occupant occasionally smokes outside). Quiet time between 10:00 pm and 8:00 am.

Nice place to stay in between moving

This property was very comfortable - we weren't in need of anything when we stayed here for a month between leases even though most of our own belongings were packed up in storage. Especially enjoyed the deck and being able to spend time outdoors rain or shine.

I can’t say enough nice things about the Host and the accommodations. fantastic view! Comfortable bed, nice shower, and I had no needs that were not met. Would stay here again as occasion arises.

I found the place comfortable with all the facilities I needed. The weather was cool so I didn't use the patio as much as hoped but on the warm days it was very nice.

Great place!

The deck has fabulous views of the hills and is a great spot for morning coffee, afternoon drinks, or an evening meal. The house is well equipped, located near shopping in Montclair, close to highways, and very near wonderful hiking in the East Bay park system. Elaine is the perfect host, very attentive and responsive. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom very well appointed. We couldn't have asked for better

Eliane has a beautiful, clean, and quiet place with a fantastic view and a cozy gas fireplace for cold nights. Everything you need is outlined and very organized, with great details like bathrobes and slippers available for your use. Elaine seems to have thought of everything! My partner and I stayed for a few weeks. It is a great place to land.

beautiful and peaceful retreat

This was a much needed cool respite for me. Immaculate, lovely, quiet and safe with everything anyone could possibly ever need. Easily one of the most perfect vrbo homes I have ever rented. Elaine is a kind and available host, who has created a convenient and lovely space surrounded by greenery in the pretty Oakland hills. Close to everything the bay area has to offer, without the bustle of city life. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

Short easy drive to uc berkeley and close to great walks in the Oakland hills. Easy drive to ferry wharf for trips to San Francisco with free parking. Super host and comfortable accommodation

Quiet and comfy house, close to SF

The house was pretty much everything that I was looking for my family. Elle is a nice host and explains everything thoroughly. At the price I got, the house is a good fit. Nice and quiet location, but still close to SF, San Jose and other nearby places through the highway or small roads over the mountain. Kitchen is packed with everything you generally need and we would not expect much more. Recently remodeled, so everything is nice and new in the bathroom. Not sure about the light timers, but probably people forget to turn off sometimes. Washer and dryer eventually needs updating - they work - but little bit hassle sometimes. However we were able to get our laundry done and that’s it. Nice patio to enjoy quiet evenings. Thank you.

Home Away From Home

My husband and I stayed in this charming apartment for three months while our new home in Walnut Creek was being renovated. It was a great find and, actually, we hated to leave. The apartment is very comfortable and well appointed. A recently completed renovation focused on sound proofing between floors and it was successful. The space is private and secluded yet has easy access to the local Montclair shops, downtown Oakland, Berkeley and Contra Costa County. The deck is an added bonus and expands the living space. Many an hour was spent taking advantage of the wide ranging literary collection available in the apartment. Also it provides a lovely spot to enjoy a glass of wine, the gardens and hilltop views. The owner is very respectful of space and privacy and quick to resolve any issue that might arise. I would recommend this apartment in a heart beat. It is a truly lovely space.

Charming Montclair Escape

I had a class to take in the neighbourhood, so we rented the garden flat because it was nearby. All of the houses are built into the hillside so the entrance is down some steps off to the side. The finishes are all lovely and considered, and the history of the place really comes through. The kitchen has everything you could need, and all of the baby stuff was really helpful and convenient! The couches are super comfy and the deck is nice and private. No one can see onto the deck from the neighbours and you can't see onto theirs. The bed is comfortable, the shower is hot, and the managers are great. The redwoods are all around you and the freeway is close by. The village of Montclair has some amazing restaurants and little shops. We used the suite as home base and adventured all around San Francisco during the day. There are no sidewalks in the neighbourhood so you definitely need a car to get around. The steep hills of the area were intimidating at first to drive up but they became fun really quickly.

A little bit of paradise in the Oakland Hills

This little bit of paradise offered everything my husband and I wanted in a holiday rental-- comfort and charm, spacious rooms, a great location, and a magnificent deck with views of the canyon and hills. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to stay in the Bay Area. Everything about the apartment has been done with care and attentiveness. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed, the bedroom was spacious and comfortable, and there was even a fireplace in the living room. Sitting on the deck at night under the stars watching the lights twinkling in the hills across the valley was truly magical Montclair Village, just down the hill, is a good place for grocery shopping, and there's easy access from Montclair to San Francisco by car or train. After a busy, hectic day in the city, it was delightful to return to the peacefulness of the apartment. The neighborhood, high up in the hills, is wooded and quiet and safe, a real sanctuary from the noise and congestion of the city. An added advantage all for us was how close the apartment is to a series of regional parks with entrances along Skyline Drive. These parks are free of charge and offer miles of amazing trails through redwood groves, along canyons, and over volcanic hillsides. They are marvelous parks, and are literally minutes away from the apartment door! We were so happy to have found this gem in Oakland that we can't wait to go back. It feels like a second home!

Excellent Stay when Working in Oakland

Very comfortable downstairs apartment. I would definitely recommend this home to anyone who wants to be near the city but enjoys a quiet getaway. The property was very clean and organized. It was located to some nearby stores and restaurants. The owner was very welcoming and made sure everything was in order when I arrived.
