Granite Haven is your perfect home away from home, whether you are looking for a peaceful get-a-way or seeking adventure and recreation. We are surrounded by BLM and National Forest which offer peace and solitude, or just sit on the deck and watch the wildlife. On the other end of the spectrum, rafting, hiking, biking, skiing and boarding (Copper Mountain is a 45 minute drive, Monarch is 45 minutes away, and Vail is 1 hour, and Ski Cooper is 30 minutes), and fishing are all easily accessible. In the summer, a beautiful drive over Independence Pass (which is closed in the winter) will get you to Aspen in 1 hour. This is a turn of the century miner's home with approximately 1000 sf., two bedrooms and 1-1/2 baths. Sleeps six. The house has new hardwood floors and an updated kitchen and bathroom complete with washer and dryer in the big mud room entry. Unique tin ceilings are still intact in the original part of the house along with original wood flooring in the bedrooms. Sobre o anfitrião
Anfitrião: Kent & Kim Naegele
Kim is 5th generation Granite. Her great-great-grandfather was a freighter and homesteaded the Clear Creek Ranch just south of Granite. So it was quite natural for us to move back to Granite. Kent is a carpenter and builds everything from cabinets and furniture to new custom homes. Kim is a science teacher at the Buena Vista High School.
Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade
The town of Granite has a rich history in mining and railroads. The infamous shooting of Judge Dwyer during the Lake County Wars transpired in Granite. In 1876, the year of Colorado statehood, Granite was the county seat. After loosing this distinction to Buena Vista, residents of Granite were unwilling to relinquish the county records to Buena Vista. Residents of Buena Vista then resorted to a clandestine, middle of the night, gunpoint, robbery of the records. Before the mining boom in Leadville, Granite was the hot spot for gold mining, and remnants of these historic mines are all around Granite. Our family history is here, and our roots run deep in Granite. The house was passed down through the family, and we now have the privilege of living in Granite.
O que faz essa propriedade ser única?
Wildlife--Here in Granite we have our own resident big horn sheep herd. The ewes hang out in town summer, fall, and winter. During the spring they go south for lambing and then bring their lambs back to town in the late summer. In the fall the rams join the ewes and enjoy running around the front yard of the house eating the flowers. For bird enthusiasts, Granite attracts rare rosy finches in the winter and hundreds of hummingbirds, broadtail, rufus, and calliope, in the summer. A pair of osprey has a nest just ¼ mile from Granite as well. Granite Haven has feeders right outside the windows so you can enjoy these feathered friends close up. Fishing and Hunting--The gold medal Arkansas River is a stone's throw from the house to catch fat brown trout. For those who prefer delicious brook trout, Low Pass Creek, is ½ mile north of Granite. The native cutthroat trout are also available for those who are more adventurous and willing to hike a few miles to the high lakes up above timberline. Clear Creek Reservoir and Twin Lakes are both less than ten minutes away. Granite is surrounded by BLM and national forest for those interested in hunting elk, deer, and antelope. Hiking and Biking--Chaffee County boasts the highest number of 14ers than any other county in Colorado. Granite is located on the northern edge of Chaffee County, so Elbert, Massive, La Plata, and Sherman are all close trailheads as well. For those who prefer a nice walk in the woods, any direction from Granite offers spectacular views and the sound of running water. Miles and miles of mountain bike trails, including the Colorado Trail, are easily accessible from the yellow house. Ski Cooper is a 30 minute drive from Granite. Copper Mountain and Monarch are only 45 minutes away. Three rafting companies are within 5 minutes of Granite and offer the adventure of Pine Creek, Numbers, and Brown's Canyon sections of the Arkansas River.
