Secluded Cottage with Screened Porch, WiFi, and smart TVs

Escape to this peaceful mountain retreat at 3000 feet elevation with beautiful views, a huge screened porch, and total privacy just minutes from town.

Located less than 10 minutes from Downtown West Jefferson, The Cottage is close to festivals, art galleries, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and the Ashe County Cheese Factory. Boone is 25 minutes away, Appalachian Ski Resort 45 minutes, and Beech and Sugar Mountain are about an hour.

Inside, you will find a cozy living room and bedroom with Smart TVs and YouTube TV, a fully equipped kitchen with cookware, silverware, and small appliances, and a dual coffee maker that brews either drip or K-cups. A washer and dryer are available for your convenience.

A charcoal grill is located outside for guest use. Please bring your own charcoal.

WiFi provides broadband speeds up to 100 Mbps, perfect for streaming or remote work. There is no landline, and cell service can be spotty in the mountains, so WiFi calling is recommended.

Guests who enjoy the water will find two nearby public river access points:
ā€¢ Highway 163 Access, less than 5 minutes away, ideal for kayak or tube launches on the South Fork New River.
ā€¢ Elk Shoals Access (New River State Park ā€“ Elk Shoals), about 10 minutes away, featuring a sandy beach, picnic area, and easy wading.

Cottage Lane forms a loop that connects back to pavement on both ends. Simply follow the gravel road past the house and it will return to the main road. There is no need to turn around at the property. A hand-drawn map showing the route is posted on the kitchen bulletin board.

Our first stay at the Cottage in West Jefferson. Location was private but just a short drive to West Jefferson,Boone,and Valle Crucis.Cottage was spotless clean and had everything you needed for a very comfortable stay.canā€™t wait to come back!

Perfect place to get away, like Smoky Mountains without many people. Clean, quiet, very green. The gravel road is challenging to find. Look for a small sign off in the trees and trust the process of the long gravel path. Beautiful place!

Great short getaway

We enjoyed our 3 night getaway in this remarkably quiet home tucked in the woods with an amazingly sized screened in deck for evening book reading and hanging out. Two adults and 2 teens had enough space in the VERY clean and well maintained two-bedrrom/1bath space. It's a quick car ride into West Jefferson to do a little dining and shopping (both Ingels and Walmart within 10 minutes) and this isn't house related but Havana Cafe cuban sandwich was chef's kiss.Cabin is stocked with enough equipment and dining ware to make meals there (outdoor charcoal grill grate needs a little rigging to work properly). If there was a gas grill we didn't see it. The river deck and recreation area were a little underwhelming and not actually great for river access or fishing which was a slight disappointment; however, the house is located close to other New River access areas (Elk Shoals, 88 Bridge, and Wagoner). We opted to drop kayaks at 88 and paddle/fish to Wagoner. The check-in and check-out were both a breeze (love that there wasn't a mile long list of things to do for check-out). Jen even let us know that we could check in a bit earlier than usual.

Excellent small cottage.

The cottage was very cozy and not too difficult to find. The cottage was well laid out. The living room furniture wasn't very comfortable but the bed was. We stayed inside most of one day due to weather. The private access to the river was not easy to find. The map available for use was in poor condition. There is no good way to park near the private river access. Vegetation near the river access was heavily overgrown and was not inviting to use. There seemed to only be about a 3ft wide spot on the river bank that could be used to access river but the river moves too quickly in that spot to use recreationally unless fishing. Even fishing in that area would seem to be a challenge. That was probably the only part that was truly disappointing since we were specifically looking for a place with water access. The price was good so I can't complain too much.

Peaceful Place.

This cabin was exactly as listed. It was extremely clean, which is a must for me. I absolutely loved the screened in porch. It was also clean which was great.. The only negative that we had was the limited space to park. There was plenty of room to park but actually turning into the space was impossible in an F250. We had to back into the space and then back up the entire distance to the main road. There was nowhere to turn around. Other than that, everything was great and we would definitely stay here again.

Lovely cabin

This cabin was lovely and comfortable. The master bed was very comfortable. The view was great. We saw deer on multiple days and a fox. The water pressure in the shower was strong. The screen porch was a big plus!

Great cabin on the mountain

Spacious/secluded modern cabin on the side of the mountain. Very quiet and well maintained with mountain views and a nice riverside deck that can be accessed by a short drive down the hill.

Private Mountain Getaway

Wonderful weekend getaway for my wife and I. This little cottage was the perfect size and location, very peaceful as well. Loved the large screened in deck and mountain view. we saw deer at the cottage every day during our stay. The local area has so much to offer it was hard to decide what to do next. Only two issues during the stay, if you have a large vehicle, it will be a bit difficult to get turned into the driveway at the cabin (we have a Subaru), also we did not get to enjoy the river access because we were not sure where to park. If we parked in front of the access, we would have blocked the road. The very small parking areas close to the access appear to belong to the neighbors. However, we would still use the vacation getaway again if coming to the area.

Amazing location!

My husband and I stayed here for a childfree weekend and what a relaxing experience it was! Convenient location not far from West Jefferson. The river front access was also a fun addition. Host was great to communicate with, and made sure we had everything we needed. We plan to come back but bring the kids!

Wonderful getaway!

We had a wonderful stay here. The bedroom setup - a king in the master and bunk beds in the second room- was perfect for our family with two little ones (and the king bed was very comfortable)! The screened in porch was lovely to use and the house had a perfect amount of amenities. Jennifer was extremely responsive and welcoming. Thank you!

Just like before, but not as secluded

After staying in the property seven years ago, I was very pleased that the inside looked just like it did when we left in 2017. It was very clean and showed no signs of wear or needing replacement. We again loved the screened porch and it is where we spent most of our stay. Last visit, it was definitely considered secluded and quiet. However, not the same this time. There is another property about 400 feet away that uses the same driveway. There were times when we could clearly hear their conversations while on the porch. Also, on a few days there was some kind of noise coming from the roadway above with trucks, machinery, and loud voices. Iā€™m not sure if these had an impact on not seeing any wildlife like previous guests have mentioned. It is still a lovely place to stay in the mountains with its view of Mount Jefferson and the close proximity to West Jefferson/Hwy 221.

Great place to stay

Such a cute home, with the best back porch ever! Was in town for a wedding and it was perfect for our needs. The only thing I would comment on is the driveway. Make sure you have 4WD, it is a tight turn. Also, couldn't find an iron or ironing board; would've been helpful for our wedding attire. Would DEFINITELY stay here again!

We built this cottage to suit a small family. We selected the location for the view, proximity to shopping, and being close to the New River. We wanted ease of maintenance and high quality.

The porch is a generous 12x30 and furnished to make the most of the outdoors. In the summer, when the Piedmont temps top a hundred, this 3000' high screened living area the best place to spend the afternoon.

Its hard to find a rental with river access, a well appointed home, a view, all tucked out of sight, yet so close to town.
