Looking for a place to get the family together and spend time catching up? Heritage 1865 is just what you are looking for! Heritage Lodge was just finished in 2014 and is located in Southern Iowa, just minutes from Lake Rathbun. The lodge has all the modern amenities you would expect and more, but tucked away in the quiet, serene countryside. The living area features high ceilings, an 80" flat screen TV over the wood-burning fire place, pool table and is large enough to accommodate the largest of families. All 4 bedrooms have queen size beds with a single bunk on top. There is a full kitchen, washer/dryer facility and 2 large bathrooms. Relax on the large patio and light a fire in the fire pit. Explore the great outdoors and enjoy the wildlife on the walking paths! Hang out by the shared private lake which has your own private beach and private dock. There are three kayaks available.

Family vaca

Beautiful property, showing some wear and tear. Not as clean as one would expect but Abby was extremely helpful, polite and accommodating. She made things right. Beach area was a very dirty sand/mud. Shore by beach was a little weedy. Great outdoor area. Hot water was great even with large group. Checkin was super easy, kayaking around the pond was nice, very quiet. Close to Rathbun. Hosts were very easy to work with.

Family Vacation

My husband & I love getting a rental every summer. Our son, daughter, son in law & 3 precious grandkids stayed at Heritage 1865 for 4 days. Kayaking, fishing, playing in sand on little beach, and grilling so fun. It rained one day but games & pool table were wonderful. Thought there would be a paddle boat too but owner said that had been gone for years. Also couldnā€™t find remote to tv & once we searched high & low, found it in sofa cushion (very dirty). There was also a Brillo pad rusted to kitchen counter, coffee maker had mildewed filter still in machine, tons of alcohol still in kitchen. We had specifically asked owner to not have alcohol on premise. Spent a lot of time dumping alcohol down drain. Still beautiful home & we had great time. Thanks

Loved Heritage 1865

The property was everything we had hoped it would be and more! The lodge was awesome, huge and such cool detail throughout the entire place. It was clean, the beds were comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed and the 2 fridges were very nice to have. The kids spent a lot of time at the pond, fishing and using the kayaks, they had so much fun. The pond wasnā€™t the cleanest but what pond is by mid-July in Iowa - no complaints from our group! We spent a lot of time by the pond. The whole property was beautiful! The property was close to Rathbun Lake, very easy to get to. We absolutely loved our stay at Heritage 1865 and hope to go back there again!

Comfortable and relaxing setting for a family getaway.

The property was beautiful and very remote. Lots of places to sleep and spread out. We spent a lot of time using the pond, hanging around the campfire and gathering and spending time in the great room. It was perfect place for 3 families to get together, cath up, relax and enjoy some fishing.

Family Vacation

This was our 2nd family vacation at Heritage Lodge. It was just as much fun this time as the 1st. It is a very relaxing place. Our grandkids loved the lake for swimming and fishing. We brought our golf cart for riding the cut paths and lily pad for the beautiful lake. We all had a blast. The lodge is accommodating for our daughter in a wheelchair. Just wish 1 bathroom had bars for assistance. The kitchen is huge and has everything you need other than the food! We also brought a 12x12 canopy to put on the back porch to shield the late afternoon sun. It is a quiet place to enjoy family and the outdoors . Beautiful sunset! We will return!

Great summer getaway!

Perfect facilities for large group. Lake Rathbun close for boating and swimming. Kids loved fishing in pond. Secluded gem! We had a great time. Only down side is a new barn wedding venue put up right next door. Luckily there were no parties during our stay.

Family trip at Rathbun Lake

Beautiful house! Large and roomy for our whole crew. Everything we needed. The only suggestion I qould have is to provide large, covered trash barrels outside. There were a bunch of nasty, full garbage bags left sitting by the back door, by the previous occupants. To s of flies that would get in the house and the smell was awful. We ended up taking the bags to the dumpster at the other event building. I felt that should have been taken care of before we arrived. All in all a great, fun filled weekend and a really nice, well appointed vacation rental. We will return!!!

Perfect Family Vacation

It was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the weather. The kids loved the kayaks and paddle boat. Us adults had fun fishing, and we really enjoyed the commercial kitchen! We loved the huge tables in the living space so everyone could eat meals together. Once we checked in, we never left till we checked out. The only negative about the whole lodge is that people do come and go from the venue right next to the lodge a lot, and we werenā€™t aware of that so the first few times it made us a little nervous since we had little kids running around and we werenā€™t sure if the people that were on the property were supposed to be there or not. The owners also brought people that were looking at the venue next door into our lodge with only a 10 minute notice. Other than that, our family would definitely rent the lodge again and we didnā€™t want to leave.

Just a Perfect fit for our family reunion!

We have been looking for a setting like this for years! A private home on a pond all to ourselves. The fish were biting and we fried them up in the industrial kitchen. Swimming and wonderful beach, paddle boat and a grove of trees to sit in the shade. The grounds and paths are so well planned. Not to mention a huge great room to gather in and plenty of room for kids to tumble around. They are building another structure on the site for weddings but it didnā€™t disrupt our fun in any way. We hope to make this our annual family reunion destination.

2nd Trip

We stayed at Heritage 1865 in 2015, and this time brought my wife's entire family with us. It was a very relaxing vacation. Perfect for a weekend get-away. The kids had a blast swimming, playing in the sand, fishing, etc. There's more than enough room and things to do so that everyone has their own space. You are there to enjoy nature and the lake, so there is little to no expense once you are there. Just bring your own food for your meals and you are set. Obviously we liked it enough to make a return visit, and I'm sure this won't be our last. Hopefully we will make it an annual event!

Wonderful time at Heritage 1865

Our entire family enjoyed our recent stay at Heritage 1865. Located in rural south central Iowa the property is very peaceful and relaxing, as well as far away from the hustle and bustle that you encounter on most family vacations at theme parks or resorts. The lodge is perfect for groups, with great bedroom and bathroom and kitchen accommodations as well as plenty of indoor space for lounging. The grounds are very well kept, and the pond was a big hit with those that wanted to fish, with lots of action on bluegill and small mouth bass. The staff was very attentive to any requests. Highly recommend you consider Heritage 1865 for your next family vacation or hunting trip.

Great place for creating family memories!

This lodge was perfect for our summer vacation! The grandkids loved the pond and activities available onsite. Bedrooms were air-conditioned and spacious. Not too far from the lake. We are looking forward to booking it again next year!
