As Premier Hosts, we take pride in our guests’ experience and are proud to maintain a high rating. In the years that we have opened our home to guests it has been almost entirely a positive experience. We have always had wonderful guests. Unfortunately, that was not the case for this group. Bottom line: this guest left us a negative review because we withheld a portion of their security deposit to cover the additional cleaning fees we incurred due to the disgusting way they left our home upon checking out. As mentioned in their review, this was a turnover day for our cleaners during the busy summer season and there was a 2-hour delay in checking in. When I was made aware of this issue, I immediately responded and apologized for the inconvenience. As a courtesy, we sent a partial refund and the guests responded with “Much appreciated, thanks Sean.” Additionally, given the two-hour delay in checking in, the guests asked if they could check out 2 hours late. I informed the guests that they are welcome to check out up to 3-4 hours after the normal check out and was told by the guests, "Amazing Sean. We love the house and are delighted. We will leave by 1pm Thanks for everything. Look forward to spending longer next time.” The guest additionally informed me that they couldn’t properly remove their trash into the barrels in the garage because the lock wouldn’t open. When our cleaners arrived, the door to the garage opened on the first try. Upon arriving to turn over our home, our cleaners informed us of several over- the- top messes that the guests left behind, ignoring many of our basic check-out procedures. The list included the following: guests leaving countertops full of food around the kitchen, messes in nearly every room ranging from outright piles of trash to dirty cups and glasses, beds not stripped, towels left in the bathrooms, trash not removed to the bins, an overflowing sink of dirty, food encrusted dishes. Lastly, what really upset us is that someone URINATED on top of one of our beds which soaked through the comforter, sheets and mattress pad. A pillow was left on top of the stain hoping we would not notice. Fortunately, we have dozens of photos to prove these issues which VRBO accepted when we withheld the security deposit. Our cleaners informed us that cleaning would take significantly longer and we would incur extra cleaning costs as a result (including the need to clean up BIOHAZARDS), which we took out of the guests’ security deposit. There is a standard cleaning fee as part of the rental; however, those costs doubled as a result of the above mentioned messes. We truly enjoy opening up our home to our wonderful guests, but this was an example of the 1% that you want to avoid. The fact that the guest accuses us of “moaning that they left our house with some dirty glasses and towels (when we have ample photo evidence to prove the way they left our home) and uses an immature emoji tells you all you need to know.
