'trullo Della Luna', Típica Quinta Encantadora com Piscina

Trullo della Luna is an original "casedda", a traditional Apulian farmhouse characterized by vaulted stone cones. This four-cone rural trullo, now beautifully restored, features a large private swimming pool and offers the architectural charm of the Valle d'Itria. Once used solely by local peasants, these unique structures are now admired worldwide as iconic symbols of this Italian region and its ancient cultural heritage.

When I first discovered this trullo, it was completely abandoned.
As an architect, I saw its dry-stone walls as the evocative ruins of an ancient temple. With great enthusiasm, I restored it with the intent to preserve its historical character.

I’ve greatly enjoyed studying the ancient techniques used to build trulli (the plural of trullo). Each construction detail reveals a wealth of traditional knowledge passed down through generations. The original cones were built without the use of plaster, relying solely on the skill of highly specialized craftsmen.

Today, only a few artisans are capable of reproducing these intricate details. The restoration of Trullo della Luna was entirely funded by me, with a clear intent to safeguard this precious heritage.

Just 20 km from the trullo lies the Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve—an unspoiled stretch of coastline with small beaches and crystal-clear waters. The reserve covers approximately 1,000 hectares of land and 2,000 hectares of protected marine area, including seven kilometres of golden sandy coves alternating with rocky promontories.

Nearby towns worth visiting include Oria and Carovigno, as well as Ceglie Messapica, known for its beautiful historic castle. Other recommended destinations are Mesagne, Manduria, Ostuni, Massafra, Castellaneta (birthplace of Rodolfo Valentino), and Grottaglie, renowned for its handmade ceramics. For beach lovers, the Gulf of Taranto offers stunning spots like Campo Marino, Torre Colimena, and the breathtaking white sands of Punta Prosciutto.

Hébergement très original au cœur des Pouilles des trulli

Le trullo della Luna est un très bel endroit, au cœur d’une région unique par son étrangeté et sa riche histoire. L’accueil est impeccable et le propriétaire, Paolo, facilement disponible par internet et prêt à rendre service.L’hébergement y est agréable, mais il y manque un peu de confort du fait de cet habitat si étrange qui est trop exigu pour que le touriste puisse facilement ouvrir sa valise et disposer ses affaires sur des étagères.La chambre carrée, ‘ajoutée’ aux trois trulli, est plus conforme aux attentes habituelles. La chambre sous le trullo est difficile d’accès (j’ai 79 ans!) et le canapé transformé en lit double manque de confort.La salle de bain pourrait aussi être modernisée avec douche vitrée (actuellement, douche avec simple rideau qui ‘inonde’ toute la pièce).Il y a une douche de piscine à l’extérieur, très pratique et efficace.La piscine est irréprochable.La salle à manger extérieure est ombragée et très agréable.Le même type de toit serait utile pour abriter le véhicule.Au total, un séjour très agréable et une impression positive.
Les trois pièces sous les trulli sont complétées par une extension plus comfortable

Amazing place

It was 'truli' ;) fantastic. Both the trulli house, the swimming pool and the surroundings. The contact with Paolo and Costanza also went very smoothly. A hidden gem!

Great house

We had a wonderful stay. However, the AC in the house did not work, so it was hot and the nights were so warm. But if the owner has fixed the AC, I reccommend a stay in lovely Puglia.

Unique and remote

The property contact, Costanza, was great. The host/owner didn't ahve the wifi "loaded" when we arrived, and we actaully arrived a day later than scheduled, and we didn't end up having wifi until the following day, which for some is not an issue but it really was for me. The cell service is also very light there and so I had to get on the roof deck to connect- not the best experience. The place is really fun and unique and it IS remote. Maybe 10 mins from any services and about 25-30 mins from a main town. So if you want to be disconnected and in a quite area it is great. We are pretty clean and tidy ppl and the house was up to our expectations when we arrived. I'm not sure it's possible to take a shower and not get a decent amount of what on the floor. There are no TVs in the house, so again if you are wanting to be in a remote area and nto connected it's great, if not then don't pick this one. The pool area and covered patio are very nice and the setting amoung the olive trees is also nice. It's cute and without the WiFi issues it would have been fantastic.

Siamo stati al trullo di Paolo per una settimana ad agosto. Il trullo è molto bello, grande, ben arredato e curato.. È il posto ideale per concedersi un periodo di pausa e rigenerazione.. L'arredamento è funzionale e diversamente dalle precedenti recensioni c'è un grande frigorifero con freezer. Ci siamo completamente rilassati trascorrendo le giornate nella grande piscina, ammirando sul terrazzo degli incredibili tramonti tra gli ulivi e facendo grigliate al bbq pesce/carne podolica!!! Unico suggerimento: non dispiacerebbe un minimo di illuminazione esterna in più! Ma per il resto tutto stupendo! Lo straconsiglio e ringrazio Paolo per tutti i preziosi consigli! Daniela e Vittorio

Stellar Trullo della Luna

A beautiful property, lovingly restored. So comfortable, convenient location for exploring Puglia. Paolo has created a very special oasis, the pool was really enjoyable! Comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, wifi that worked, got us started with wine and bottled water. Had clear directions and ideas for what is going on in the area. Would stay again!

Das Haus ist schön, der Pool ist gross und gepflegt. Auch die Lage ist angenehm. Die Ansprechpartnerin vor Ort ist sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Das versprochene WLAN ist nicht nur schwach, wie zwischendurch angedeutet, sondern schlichtweg nicht vorhanden. Der angepriesene Wagen ist nicht mehr vorhanden. Die Ausstattung ist einfach, was in Ordnung ist, aber sehr lieblos. Der Kühlschrank hat kein Gefrierfach, die Töpfe und Pfannen sind sehr alt und haben keinen isolierten Griff. Die Bestuhlung ist schlecht, die Stühle auf der Terrasse haben Campingniveau und damit sehr ungemütlich. Die Sonnenschirme können nur wenige Euro gekostet haben. Das ist schade, das ansonsten schöne Objekt könnte man mit nur wenig Geld komfortabler machen. So hat man das Gefühl, zu viel dafür bezahlt zu haben.

Excellent address to discover the Apulia while resting. Traditional house of charm planted in the middle of olive trees. Big pool. Well-received and clean housing. First separated double bed room + a second double bed (invisible from the living room and opening onto the living room) + a sofa bed in the living room. Ideal for a couple and up to 4 children or 2 couples and 2 children.

Très jolie maison, très agréable

Maison traditionnelle en trulli, très agréable avec sa piscine. Les photos sont fidèles à la réalité. Située au milieu des oliviers, la maison est tranquille et sans vis-à-vis. J’ai apprécié la mise à disposition du barbecue, et le nécessaire quand on arrive (poivre, sel, huile, papier toilette...). Il manque juste un peu lumière la nuit près de la piscine pour pouvoir y prolonger un peu la soirée, mais cela n’enlève rien au charme de la maison.

A beautiful property

We have recently returned from a fantastic two weeks at Trullo della Luna. It is probably the best Italian property we have stayed in. The trullo has been beautifully restored and although compact, was quite large enough for our party of five. We combined a mixture of sight seeing and making the most of the beautiful pool and its surrounding area. We would definitely recommend it.

A Trulli Lovely Break

We (family of 5, children 7 months, 4 & 7 years old) have just returned from a two week stay at the Trullo. We had a fantastic time at the property and in the region. The property itself is clean and well-maintained and is an authentic Trullo, so quirky and cosy on the inside, but equipped with mod-cons such as air-con in the sleeping areas. The outside of the Trullo is a good, large space, with various areas for sunbathing and of course the pool to cool down in. We made good use of the Barbecue. In terms of the location, the Trullo is almost central in the region and well placed for exploring the sights. We managed to get to all corners of Puglia, plus a hop over to Basilicata to see Matera and generally the sights are 45mins to an hours drive (Alberobello, Locorotondo, Martina Franca, Ostuni, Lecce etc.). The local roads can take some getting used to, but if you head right out of the property towards Latiano you're on the Autostrade before too long and make good progress on the main roads. A good GPS would be worth the investment if planning lots of exploring, it saved us any head-scratching. San Michele Salentino, the nearest town, has a charming centro that is worth the short trip for lunch and a wander. We also spent many lazy, sunny hours, simply relaxing by the pool and enjoying being cut-off from the news back in the 'real-world'. The Trullo is a great choice for a relaxing break. Paolo, the owner is very easy to deal with and the property managers down in Puglia, Mrs Costanza and David her (English) husband are also very amenable and quick to respond when needed. All in all, we had a lovely stay.

Way Better than Expected

This place was great. We really enjoyed trullo life. We went out on various local excursions but the best part of our holiday was the tranquillity of lounging by the pool and exploring the garden. It felt great to be so far away from everyone else. We also enjoyed use of the car, perfect for the situation. Locals seemed really friendly and tolerant of out poor Italian language skills. House was well equipped with lots of handy extras. Would definitely book again

Trullo amazing...

We stayed at the "Trullo Della Luna" for 4 nights in September and I cannot recommend this accommodation highly enough. It is just perfect. Set in the Olive groves, the location is peaceful and only a short drive from the main sights in the area. We visited lots of beautiful places on our holiday in Italy but nothing compared to driving up the path and returning home to such a magical place.

Parfait !

Le Trullo de della Luna a été à la hauteur de nos espérances. Ce délicieux endroit est digne des photos. Une situation idéale, au milieu des oliviers, sans voisins ni bruit sauf les cigales ! Un temps de rêve même début août et son fort soleil, heureusement compensé par ce vent salvateur ! Un Trullo en très bon état, avec une petite cuisine pratique, de la jolie vaisselle et le barbecue indispensable dehors. La climatisation est bien utile en été, surtout dans la chambre. La piscine est grande et indispensable ! La situation du Trullo a une douzaine de minutes en voiture d'un axe routier important permet de sillonner la région en toute tranquillité. Les indications, conseils (restaurants, boucheries, villes touristiques …) de Paolo en amont et sur place sont très utiles. Nous sommes restés à 4 pendant une semaine avec bonheur. Les soirées sur la terrasse sont inoubliables, on se sent seuls au monde. Un grand merci à David et Costanza qui sont là pour nous accueillir et pour répondre à nos attentes. Un lieu que je recommande avec plaisir pour des vacances reposantes dans une très belle région.

Like a fairytale

Trullo Della Luna was a magically wonderful place to stay- a completely unique property like no other. The trullo reminded me of something I might see in a children's fairytale book. We had no neighbours during our stay and woke to birdsong each morning and the wonderful view of olive groves. Roomier than I had anticipated, restored with great integrity and character. We felt like it was a real privilege to stay there. Spotlessly clean, very comfortable bed, simple but essential amenities provided. Felt like we were guests of a friend not staying in an anonymous clinical rental property. Lots of personal touches. Modern bathroom . Paolo offered exceptional customer service via email and everything was delivered as promised. Costanza also provided a warm personal welcome to the trullo to hand over the keys as we had arrived by train to Brindisi station. A car is essential. We used the Fiat Panda offered ( included in price) and covered more than 800 km! Matera was a particular highlight well worth the journey of 1 1/2 hours from the trullo. We definitely recommend using a guide to visit the sassi in Matera. Nadia from the Matera tourist bureau comes highly recommended- English speaking 40 Euros for 2 people. We enjoyed the use of Trullo della Luna's barbecue several times purchasing from local butchers. Trust all of Paolo's suggestions- especially dinner at the pescheria Fortunato! A property for those who enjoy a stay with a difference..and a little bit of magic!! Highly recommended.

We thought the trullo was charming and really pretty. We also enjoyed Puglia as, although we know Italy quite well, we had never been there and it was quite different. The trullo has a wonderful pool and was quaint and interesting to stay in. It had everything you need, including air con and washing machine, although fridge is a little on small side. All linen, including swimming towels was provided. The property was clean with inside/outside eating areas and plenty of outdoor space. It is, like most of these places, quite isolated and, at first, we were not so sure of situation. However, San Michele is quite cute and Messagne, which has a huge Auchan for all your necessary purchases, also has a nice centro storico. But, more importantly, it is ideally situated to visit all the most important places. It is almost equidistant from Adriatic coast and that of Gulf of Taranto and we visited both. The interesting towns of Albarobello, Lecce and Ostuni are all within reasonable distant, about an hour on the smaller roads, but the autostrada is very near if you want to get there more quickly. You don't need to pay. All arangements about keys etc. went without a hitch. To sum up we had a great week.

Second time here

We stayed in the Trullo in 2010 and enjoyed it very much. Very charming, great surroundings and pool. So we went back here for another holiday. And had a great time here again.
