Domaine de la Barre is the perfect getaway, it offers a lovely retreat to relax and enjoy the beautiful French countryside whilst still being within easy distance of all the places of interest. The gite is detached from the owners property giving a sense of privacy but the reassurance that the owners are close by if needed. Recently renovated the property offers a high standard of accommodation and it benefits from a large private terrace with stunning views over the pool and surrounding countryside. Please feel free to make use of the large pool, covered terrace, summer kitchen, expansive gardens and the countryside beyond. There is also ample parking for cars. Locally you have the choice of many fine restaurants, sightseeing, water sports, golf, and other activities, not forgetting the world famous Carcassonne city and the canal du midi made famous by Rick Stein's adventures. Domaine de la Barre is just 25 minutes from Carcassonne airport and a stones throw away from many fascinating cultural and historical sights. If you're interested in history you can visit the Cathar castles and monuments of the region and learn more about it's intriguing past.
We've got the beautiful Lac Montbel nearby where you can swim or take advantage of the water sports on offer, the pedalos with a slide are great fun! Horse riding is also available round the lake. Just 15 minutes from us at Bram is a teleski business set on a lake, where you can water-ski, it's a really good way to pass an afternoon. The lake at Carcassonne offers swimming, water sports, accrobranching and of course the inflatable park (brilliant!) so there's plenty to keep you entertained.
You can be on the beach within an hour enjoying the lovely atmosphere of the French coastal resorts or heading an hour in the opposite direction you can discover the Pyrenees and the stunning scenery of the mountain resorts and their picturesque towns.
The lovely medieval town of Mirepoix is only 15 minutes away, where you can find excellent restaurants and it's Monday morning market is well worth a visit.
For wine enthusiasts out there, Limoux, just 20 minutes away is the home of Blanquette, with many good local vineyards nearby you can pass away a few hours sampling the local wines.
There's plenty to keep you busy whatever your interests and I'm sure that you'll love exploring this beautiful part of France.

We had a wonderful time at this very comfortabel and beautiful place. We felt very welcome and had everything we needed. With so much outdoor space and the huge swimmingpool it was hard to seduce our teenagers to leave the premisses and explore the surroundings ;-)

Wonderful stay at Domaine de La Barre

We had a wonderful, relaxing weeks stay at Domaine de La Barre. The setting is idyllic and the gite was exceptionally clean and tidy with everything we could have needed at hand. Our hosts were great and couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. They were extremely knowledgeable on the area, places to visit and recommendations on places to eat. A great place to stay, relax and unwind!

Our home for the 2 weeks was wonderful, just as shown in photos, very clean and the bed was so comfy.The pool was great, pity the weather didnt hold up.Sarah was a fantastic host, always their to answer any questions either in person or on the phone/text with lots of recommendations too. Will tell all our friends. As it says the property is in the middle of fields so a car is needed to explore. 10/10 all round

Exactly what we wanted!

I do not think I can add or subtract from the excellent reviews that have already been given. Overall, we had a very pleasant week at La Domaine de la Barre. We especially enjoyed the pool which is exactly as it is pictured. We also appreciated Sarah's attentiveness to our needs and responsiveness to our questions. We would definitely stay there again.

Perfect peace

A beautiful setting for a holiday location that offers peace and quiet alongside stunning views and the opportunity to explore the South of France. Sarah, Kevin and family were perfect hosts offering advice and help when needed without being intrusive. First time in this area and this was a location and gite that we would definitely return to. Following Sarah's advice on places to visit delivered some great days including Lagrasse and rennes le chateau and Carcasonne was everything you would expect.

Wonderful stay in the beautiful countryside

What a wonderful stay we had with Sarah. Communication with Sarah was quick and friendly, and check in was straightforward. The gite was perfectly clean, and so well equiped. They had a travel cot, highchair and all sorts of other bits and bibs for our little ones to enjoy. The setting itself was beautiful, well into the countryside and so peaceful. We loved playing in the gardens and in the pool. Everything was so well kept and cared for. Plenty to see and do in the local area, but car definitely needed to get anywhere. The wifi was patchy on occasion but only to be expected when you’re so rural, and never a problem for us. Would absolutely recommend a stay with Sarah.

Perfect gite, perfect hosts, perfect location.

We have just returned from a fabulous 2 week holiday at Domaine de la Barre. The property was super in every way and we are very picky holidaymakers! The gite is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need and more. There is a beautiful view from the large terrace where you can eat, relax and watch the night sky and the added benefit of the summer kitchen is a real asset. The pool is stunning and is exactly as it looks in the pictures. The gite is quiet and rural with the gorgeous town of Mirepoix only 20 minutes away which has a fantastic market and cafes and restaurants for people watching. During our stay we cycled down the Canal du Midi, kayaked on the Aude, visited Carcassonne, Narbonne, Limoux, Rennes les Chateau, Rennes les Bains and swam in the Mediterranean and lots of rivers and lakes not to mention a stunning day and firework display in Collioure near Spain. There are still lots of places that we never got to see such as the Pyrenees and other historical sites. Our children aged 14 and 11 were never bored and loved the area as much as us. Sarah, Kevin and the boys are wonderful hosts. As others have said, they are perfectly discreet but there if you need them and have some top tips if you ask. The added bonus of enjoying some home grown peppers, beetroot and cucumbers was utterly delicious. We cannot recommend this little spot of paradise more highly. This is a gem of a property in a gem of an area of France.

Fantastisch

Zeer comfortabel huis met een prachtig uitzicht. Het zwembad en de tuin zijn eveneens zeer verzorgd. Er was ook een leuke moestuin waar we gebruik mochten van maken. Hier is echt aan alles gedacht. Praktisch was de buitenkeuken met extra koelkast, maar ook de informatiemap met nuttige tips. De zeer sympathieke gastvrouw Sarah en haar familie zorgden voor een warm welkom, maar bleven voor de rest heel discreet. Dit adres is écht een aanrader.

Découverte et repos en pays cathare

Un gite magnifique, terrasse avec vue sur la piscine ( immense! ) et la campagne environnante, une cuisine extérieure très bien équipée, un très beau jardin et potager en libre accès ( merci pour les légumes). Il faut prendre la voiture pour tous les déplacements mais la région est magnifique, coup de cœur pour la cité de Carcassonne et la visite guidée de Montsegur. Merci à nos hôtes pour cette trés belle semaine. A refaire.

Séjour très agréable

L'hébergement du domaine de La Barre est parfait aussi bien le confort, l'équipement,la propreté, son environnement calme, apaisant concourt à un séjour serein, délassant et à proximité des sites cathares ( Fanjeaux, Mirepoix, Camon, Montsegur...) de belles balades. A beautiful quiet retreat, perfect to get away and relax

Could not rate Sarah’s place higher. We spent a wonderful two weeks in the peace and tranquility of the countryside. The property is clean and well equipped. We particularly enjoyed the terrace and spent many evenings with a beer watching the sunset. The pool is superb with lots of toys, great for two young kids learning to swim. Also enjoyed the outdoor kitchen with BBQ and pizza oven. It was a perfect place to set up base and explore the surrounding area, and we went to the beach, Andorra shopping, wine tasting in the Malpere region, and visited the space museum at Toulouse. Overall, a superb family holiday and would love to return.

Très bon séjour

Nous avons passé un très bon séjour chez Sarah. Le gite correspond parfaitement aux photos, il est très très calme et bien placé pour rayonner et voir Carcassonne, Toulouse, le canal du midi, les châteaux Cathares et bien plus encore si vous avez du temps.

Wij waren te gast van 10 tot 24 juli en keerden volledig ontspannen terug. Nette en goed uitgeruste gite. Voldoende schaduwplekjes. Leuke buitenkeuken, gezellig ontbijtterras en mooi groot zwembad. Sarah de gastvrouw is super sympathiek en deelt graag haar info over de bezienswaardigheden in de buurt. Kevin zorgde er elke ochtend voor dat het zwembad netjes was en hun zoontjes zijn ook heel vriendelijk. Wij raden deze plaats zeker aan als je houdt van prachtige vergezichten en je het niet erg vindt om wat afgelegen te verblijven. Wij komen zeker terug!

Late summer last minute holiday

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely part of France. The gîte was well specced, the exclusive use of the summer kitchen was unexpected and great giving us space to store our bikes. Fans are provided in each room to keep cool, a blind on the lounge window would be an idea to help stop the direct sunlight In this space. The pool area is beautiful and serene with absolutely loads of space. Sarah very kindly offered us to help ourselves to any salad and vegetables that were growing which is such a lovely thought. Sarah is friendly and available but totally discreet at same time, a perfect combination.

Super vakantie!

We hebben een fantastische week beleefd in Hounoux. De verblijfplaats was zeer mooi en zeer praktisch. Het huis en het zwembad zijn zeer goed onderhouden. Sarah is een heel attente vriendelijke gastvrouw. In de omgeving valt zeer veel te beleven. Samengevat in één woord: perfect!

relax en veilig

Zeer mooie cottage. De woning is niet groot ( er is wel een heel mooie buitenkeuken) maar wel voorzien van alle comfort. GasBBQ - pizza oven - prachtig zwembad - mooie tuin

Fantastic break. Great property in beautiful surroundings

Lovely property. Everything you could hope for and more. Kids loved the swimming pool right outside. Nice to sit in the summer kitchen and have dinner. Lots of places to visit. Sarah and family great hosts. We will be back!

Spent a great week in a well-appointed gite. The pool and gardens were immaculate tended by Sarah, Kevin and the boys. Although always on hand to ask advice, they were never intrusive. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would highly recommend a visit.

Tolles Haus! Empfehlung!

Wir haben 2 Wochen in diesem wunderschönen und sehr gut ausgestattetem Haus verbracht. Die Terrasse, der Grill, der Pool, die Außenküche, der Garten sind unschlagbar. Das gesamte Anwesen ist sehr schön und gepflegt und liegt inmitten einer abwechslungsreichen Landschaft. Guter Ausgangspunkt für alle möglichen Aktivitäten! Die Besitzer sind sehr hilfsbereit, liebenswürdig und gleichzeitig diskret. Die beiden Jungs der Familie sind klasse! Wir können einen Aufenthalt hier nur jedem empfehlen!! We spent 2 weeks in this beautiful and very well equipped house. The terrace, the barbecue, the pool, the outdoor kitchen, the garden are unbeatable. The entire property is lovely and well maintained and is surrounded by a varied landscape. Good starting point for all sorts of activities! The owners are very helpful, kind and at the same time discreet. The two boys of the family are great! We strongly recommend this place !!

A perfect spot for a relaxing holiday surrounded by beautiful countryside!

Domaine de la Barre was just wonderful! The owners, Sarah and Kevin were very discreet giving us our privacy and yet extremely friendly and helpful when asked for any information. The facilities were immaculate, all the equipment within the apartment was easy to use and in excellent condition. The outside patio area was a very relaxing place to enjoy a glass of wine, whilst the large and well maintained pool was the perfect place to cool down. The covered area next to the pool was ideal to lie back on a comfortable sun lounger and indulge in a good book away from the midday sun. We also loved cooking in the outdoor kitchen, the BBQ was very impressive! The Languedoc region has plenty of fantastic places to visit within easy driving range of the property, Carcassonne Cite being our favourite closely followed by a stunning drive through the Pyrenees starting at Ax Les Thermes and winding our way through the mountains back to Domaine de la Barre. The market at Mirepoix was also brilliant. For anyone who has read the Kate Mosse books then a visit to Rennes les Chateau is must, we loved it there! I will be recommending Domaine de la Barre to my friends and family, thank you Sarah and Kevin for ensuring our holiday was just great!

When we first moved into the property we couldn't believe how peaceful it was, having come from a busy city it was amazing to be able sit outside with a glass of wine surrounded by practical silence - only interrupted occasionally by some birdsong! We feel that Domaine de la Barre gives you the best of both worlds, it offers peace and tranquillity whilst being within easy reach of so many interesting and lovely sites.

The country side surrounding the property is beautiful, with vines and sunflowers surrounding us, all our guests feel completely relaxed here. Spend the day exploring then come back here and relax by the pool or read a book on your terrace whilst watching the sun go down. Domaine de la barre gives you the perfect opportunity to relax and unwind and enjoy the beautiful French countryside.
