Old Stone Cottage lies within the heart of Sherburn Village, and is an ideal base for exploring the Northeast of England.

Old stone Cottage has 3 bedrooms on the first floor, with a shower room and bathroom, on the ground floor there is a living room and a fully equipped kitchen for your convenience.

Bedroom 1 has a double bed

Bedroom 2 has 2 single beds

Bedroom 3 has a bunk bed

All bedrooms have a wardrobe and drawers.

The cottage has 1 shower room and 1 bathroom,

A relaxed living room with comfy settees and freeview and Prime TV, with free WIFI

The cottage has fully equipped kitchen with everything you need to make your stay a relaxing home from home experience.

There is a small gravelled area to the front of the cottage that leads onto the front street. (Please note there is no rear garden)

The cottage is 3 miles direct route from Durham city centre and on a regular bus route.

Sherburn Village is a popular rural village with close transport links to Newcastle and Gateshead, Sunderland, Northumberland and North Yorkshire.

The property was spacious, clean and well equipped. The gift basket of goods on arrival was also a nice touch including cereal and milk! Thoughtful. We had been traveling the country for a few weeks so nice to have a bath too! It was a homely cottage which was quiet. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage.

We had a lovely stay at the cottage, which was well equipped with everything we needed.Our overall impression was very positive. The attention to detail and decorative touches made the cottage feel warm and homely. The downstairs rooms are spacious, and the layout good.The location is great. It's situated with cities, retail parks, and major attractions all within a short drive, while still being in a town surrounded by fields and public footpaths—ideal for dog walking.There were just a few minor drawbacks. Although mentioned in the listing, the lack of an enclosed outdoor space meant having to get dressed to take our dog out early each morning, which wasn't ideal when on holiday! The cottage is also located on a busy road, and many drivers ignored the 30mph speed limit & traffic noise could be loud. We stayed during a warm spell & had the windows open during the day, but needed to close them at night to avoid being disturbed. As 2 of the 3 bedrooms are at the front, they became warm overnight as a result.Our only other niggle was with the bathrooms. While it's good to have the option of a bath, the only shower is in the smaller bathroom. Adding a shower over the bath in the main bathroom would be a relatively inexpensive improvement. Even with just 3 of us staying, there was a queue for the shower each morning.Overall though, these are fairly minor points and don't detract from what was a very enjoyable stay.

Great start to 2025

Absolutely superb from initial booking to leaving(didnt want to leave).Lynne is a great host nothing was to much absolutely recommend this property, everything was spot on.Nice welcome basket,Durham 15 mins away,great shopping centre 10 mins away, couple of pubs(never used)working mens club(very friendly)Would not hesitate to use Lynnes property again.

Feel like home

Very nice and clean property with all the facilities with lots of information. The owner must have work very hard to for the hosts. Calm and peaceful neighbourhood feel very safe with close distances of all amenities. Definitely will recommend to anyone travelling with own transport.

A good sized house with generous proportions, rather bland decor internally, The road is reasonable busy esp. during the day. Overall, good value for money esp. if you needed three bedrooms .

Nice cottage in a good location, suffoekt for a family of 5 including three kids

The property was as described in Homeaway. Overall my family and I liked the property. There was a problem with the boiler as we checked in but the owner was waiting with new heaters and that sorted us out fine. On the last day the owner had to bring in three different companies to check the problem with the boiler and give her quotes. I allowed it (she was kind enough to ask) but didn’t appreciate having to go through that during our stay. Despite that it was a lovely stay and a nice warm home.

Thank you for your kind review Mohammed, I’m glad you and your family enjoyed your stay. I totally understand your frustration allowing me to access the cottage during your stay, I did try and keep the disruption to a minimum by organising them to come within an hours time slot mid day, however I appreciate this was not ideal and ordinarily would never do this, but I found myself in extraordinary circumstances where We had an emergency, the boiler had broken down and required replacing and I had no gaps between guests. So once again I apologise, The boiler has now been replaced so there should be no further issues. 😊 I do hope you and your family will visit us again. Lynne

Christmas visit

Lovely cottage. Whole process was very straightforward. House very clean with all the facilities you would need to make it home from home. Thank you Lynne for Christmas tree and welcome pack. All in all a lovely stay. Will be back.

Beautiful cottage in perfect location

Had a wonderful time and the cottage was fabulous. It was clean, well kept and there was even a lovely welcome hamper awaiting us. The location is great - close to Durham and its castle/cathedral, High Power waterfall and the beamish museum which kept both adults and children entertained. There are also some beautiful walks literally around the corner. All in all, very highly recommended.

Wonderful stay

The cottage was fantastic and had everything we needed for our stay. It is clean & comfortable, nicely decorated and very well equipped. Great for families with bunk beds, toys and books. The welcome pack was a really nice touch. We would definitely stay here again and will be recommending it to anyone else who wants to stay in the area.

I live with my partner Peter and son Frankie in Northumberland.
Peter lived in Sherburn Hill, when I met him and I fell in love with the area.
I chose to buy a cottage in the village so we could maintain our links with the area and also give all of you the chance to visit.

My Partner Peter lived in Sherburn village when I met him, I spent most of my time visiting him and I fell in love with the area!
Peter and I loved going for walks with our dogs around the village and spent many a summers evening in Durham city walking around the riverside and stopping off at one of the many cafe bars.
Durham has so much to offer, there are many events throughout the year and so many places to visit.
Old Stone Cottage is the ideal place for visiting Durham and the North east of England.
