Quinta do Vale Coelheiro is a rustic village, composed of main house and annex connected with an inner courtyard. Ideal for families and large groups, where comfortably accommodates 10 people.

The common areas are extremely nice, not only the interior but also the outside, with saltwater pool and deck for reading, relaxing and being with friends. The lounge is in stone, with fireplace and has a right foot over 8 meters, housing a mezzanine if you want privacy.

The house has 3 bicycles for use by guests, who can make one of several rails that exist around the property. You can also visit some facilities that are located 5 minutes on foot, where animals are raised, allowing a complete immersion in a rural lifestyle (ideal for children).

The property has an outdoor area of 70 hectares, where olive, honey and cork are produced. All this allows you to spend a quiet holiday without having neighbors.

Quinta do Vale Coelheiro is an amazing property for a holiday. The surrounding area is so beautifully calm and authentic you really feel that you are experiencing the real Portugal. All the towns nearby have great charm - particularly Indanha a Nova. The house and estate of Quinta do Vale Coelheiro is an outstanding place to stay. We were only four in our group but you could easily fill the house comfortably with a larger group. There is a real sense of history about the house with strong links to the ancient past of the family. The house has undergone some tasteful upgrades and there is a wide range of contemporary art on display which is a lovely counterpoint to the traditional and authentic old house built from great granite blocks. The drawing room, dining room and bedrooms share a cool and grand style and they evoke the history of the family who have lived there for at least five generations. We had a beautiful stay at Quinta do Vale Coelheiro and the new swimming pool is a great size and positioned in the quiet countryside with great views. The surrounding area is luxurious with excellent loungers and outdoor dining area where we spent many happy hours at breakfast and dinner. Evenings were spent star-watching in the silent countryside. The house is well cared for by Jose and his wife who are very friendly and welcoming - they even gave us some fresh vegetables and fruits from their own garden! We shall return."

Great Place to Retreat from the World

We spent four days as a family, teens and tweens included. It was overall a great experience, and the place is highly recommendable if one understands what to expect (the pictures and description are accurate). The owner José went out of his way to be helpful and made communication extremely easy. We felt that if we had had any problem (which we didn't) he would do everything in his power to solve it. The property keeper, who lives nearby, was also very helpful. The house has many modern amenities, such as A/C in all the rooms, spacious and fully equipped kitchen and bathrooms, Apple TV and wifi (the latter not always very fast). The pool is also great, and is an essential feature if you visit in the sweltering Summer heat as we did. Bikes and a small gym are also available and functioning. Otherwise, visitors should expect an authentic "old countryside" experience: from the beautiful but very irregular stone floor of the house to the ubiquitous additional guests from various branches of the animal kingdom surrounding it (geckos, bees, beetles, crickets, lots of ants, bats, chickens, even foxes); from the rusty iron locks of the ancient wooden doors to the narrow dust roads that get you to the property... We loved it in part because it was in many ways the exact opposite of a manicured five-star resort - it felt much closer to a visit to your grandparents in the old country... The location is great if you want to be far from everywhere, meaning it's so isolated that you can spend hours staring at the starry sky or listening to all sorts of birdsongs, but you will have to pack food and drinks if you don't want to drive half an hour back and forth to a restaurant everyday. If you are eager to explore, then within a 30-minute radius you can visit at least four or five picturesque and historical spots that are worth spending a few hours at, including the villages of Monsanto, Penha Garcia and Idanha-a-Velha. In summary, we strongly recommend this property to anyone who wants to spend a quiet time in an authentic, off the beaten track spot and get a feel for the old, rural Portugal.

Wonderful Retreat in Beautiful Area of Portugal

Our stay was exceptional. The owner was extremely helpful in our communications. The farmer and his family could not have been more helpful and kind even including our children in the task of herding sheep and picking fresh vegetables from the garden. The house is situated on a working farm with over 100 acres. Our kids loved the sheep and chickens. There are beautiful olive tree groves to stroll through. The property is located in a sparsely populated area of Portugal near the fascinating towns of Monsanto, with castle rising above, and Penha Garcia, known for its fossil trail. The Portuguese people in this region are very kind and we enjoyed all the local restaurants we visited. This location is great for those that want to be off the beaten tourist path and enjoy nature. We went on several great hikes. I would enthusiastically recommend this property to anyone.

You will be amazed by the property and the surroundings!

Honestly this property is a huge surprise. The owner makes you feel at home, supplying your stay with local products if you wish so. The property is huge and full of space for a big group. You have the swimming pool that is perfect for theses hot summer days and the house is so comfortable that will surprise you. Great check in, very thoughtful and with so many things to do. There are no neighbors around so you can have a quiet and calm stay in the middle of the countryside with all the amenities that you expect to find in the city. I truly recommend you to give a try and stay there. I’m coming back for sure! Thank you for being an amazing host!
