The living area comprises an open plan lounge with cosy gas stove, dining area and sunroom with views to Loch Awe and access to the garden and patio.

Sleeping up to 5
Bedroom 1: Double bed
Bedroom 2: twin (2 x single) or zip-linked double beds
Bedroom 3: 1 x single bed

We are happy to provide a cot and highchair.

Accessibility
There are 2 steps to the back door. All rooms are on one level with wheelchair access and riser recliner chair, though access to the shower room is a little too narrow for wheelchairs.
The paved ramp and patio allows easy access to the garden bench and table from the sunroom.

Outside, with amazing view over Loch Awe, there is a picnic table and bench.

Loch Awe
Loch Awe is 25 miles long and the longest loch in Scotland. Surrounded by forests, farms, hills and mighty Ben Cruachan .

The Farm
Traditional blackface sheep and luing cattle are farmed on 2,000 acres in this beautiful area of Argyll and guests are welcome to walk and explore the farm:
- to fish or enjoy a walk to the loch shore
- to the viewpoint on An Sidhean (fairy/enchanted view) for a picnic and amazing views of Loch Awe
- to old ruined settlements abandoned nearly 150 years ago
- on a nearby forest walk (circular walk coming back via the farm)
- to our many waterfalls. The wide waterfall over Allt Beochlich is close to Barr-beithe Lower.

Fishing on Loch Awe
Fishing for trout and pike is by permit and these are available online.

Nature and wildlife:
Red squirrels and Pine Marten come to the feeder by Barn, though the Pine Marten are generally night visitors. Red Deer come into the fields in the evening especially during the colder months and they often take a short cut by Barn when returning to the hill in the morning. When travelling home in the evening you will probably see some small Roe Deer by the roadside. During the spring and summer Loch Awe is also home to many Osprey which swoop down to take fish from the loch. Kintail Birds of Prey is nearby.
Eagles, dolphins and porpoises are best seen by joining an organized tour from Oban, Easdale or Crinan.

Exploring Argyll and the west highlands of Scotland:
Some ideas, walks and wonderful scenery within easy reach on a day out:
- Oban and the distillery
- Islands of Mull and Iona (ferry from Oban) & wildlife tours
- Inveraray Castle and old victorian Jail
- Ruined Castles especially Kilchurn, near Dalmally on Loch Awe and Carnasserie Castle near Kilmartin
- majestic Glen Coe which has amazing mountain scenery and the wilderness of Rannoch Moor which you will see enroute, plus the red deer along Glen Etive if you take a little diversion
- the ‘bonny banks’ of Loch Lomond – the little village of Luss is nice
- Kilmartin Glen has standing stones, burial cairns, rock art and a museum
- Crinan Canal (walk along the tow path or hire a bicycle)
- take a tour into the ‘Hallow Mountain’ at Cruachan Hydro Electric Power Station

For children
Inveraray Castle and Jail both have a quiz to hold the interest of young people and for activities Argyll Adventure offers pony trekking and zombie games. Another popular afternoon out is to the Scottish Seal Sanctuary which also has otters and an indoor aquarium.

Cycling: if you bring your own bicycles then the tow path along Crinan Canal is lovely.

Horse Riding: Argyll Adventure near Inveraray offer 1hour and 2 hour treks.

Walking: guests are welcome to explore the farm, and our nearest Munro (mountain over 3,000ft) is Ben Cruachan at the end North end of Loch Awe.

Eating Out: there are many lovely cafes, pubs and restaurants for lunch or homemade cake when out and about exploring Argyll and most guests do opt to enjoy a good lunch or early evening meal before returning to their cottage to relax and enjoy the view.

Beautiful views

We had a wonderful time. The cottage was cozy and well appointed with everything we needed. The beds warm and comfortable. It was a perfect spot for our family. The only warning is that the one lane road is a little tricky- just go slow!

Splendid cottage

A splendid cottage in a very special location! We had a great week with our family of five. The house is very well equipped and comfortable. Great views over the lake from the house. The area is quite secluded (nearest super market 35 minute drive) but we were very well prepared for the situation, thanks to the elaborate information Catriona sent us beforehand. Lots of nice activities and excursions to do in the region. We very much enjoyed the Seafari and also the Kintail Birds of Prey is a unique experience.

We had a fantastic time with a family, a couple with two little boys, in the cottage during the summer holiday! Spacious, comfortable, well-appointed house with views of the Loch Awe. Cottage growing from a fairyland, lost in the Scottish wilderness, where magic is just there in a reach of hand... Extremely clean, comfortable and well equipped. Catriona, who is the cottage owner, is exceptionally generous and warm-hearted. She lent us rescue jackets for a whole week to be able to use our inflatable boat and didn't charge us for one more night! That never happens!! I would highly recommend it for family or a group of friends. We will go back there for sure! See you soon Highlands and Catriona !

Beautiful cottage with a scenic view, overlooking Loch Awe and surrounded by hills. Cleanest property we have ever stayed in. We were greeted by Catriona who was friendly and helpful. Top Rate Accommodation in Equally Good Surroundings

Barr Beithe is located on the edge of Loch Awe, with stunning views of the Loch. The cottage is of an excellent standard, well equipped and clean. The sun room is where we spent most of our time, when, we were in the accommodation, taking in the wildlife around, the star of the show for us, was watching an Osprey diving for fish on the loch. The cottage is well placed for a totally relaxing holiday or if you want Oban is just over an hours drive and Inverary a lovely town around 40 minutes drive. Catriona (owner) met us after our arrival and was very informative and always available if needed. The cottage is well laid out and comfortable, with the added luxury of two bathrooms (one being a shower room), additionally it is all on one level for anyone who has mobility issues. Overall a high standard accommodation, with gorgeous outlooks, for a peaceful and tranquil holiday.

Home from home

Lovely cottage in beautiful location. Spotlessly clean, very well equipped and comfortable. Wheelchair ramp and space in cottage great for disabled person to get around. Owner very helpful. One of the best cottages we have stayed at. Lower Barr-beithe cottage was more like a home form home than a holiday cottage.

Tranquil Stay in Argyll

The rented house was as clean, well-equipped and quiet as the announcement specified. Our reception was very friendly. The area by the loch was very peaceful and quite relaxing, though quite secluded - meaning that the access was rather difficult, through a narrow road. Nonetheless, the premises' charm was also due to this isolation. The surroundings offered lovely walks through woodlands and sheep pastures, with a beautiful view over the loch. We really enjoyed our stay!

Our Favourite Holiday Cottage in Scotland

Recently returned from another week in our favourite holiday cottage in Scotland.Barr Beithe Lower is a lovely, very well equipped & maintained cottage in a perfect setting by Loch Awe. Loved sitting in the sun lounge enjoying the view & watching the lambs frolicking in the fields. Outside is the perfect place for a barbecue - weather permitting!! After many years still finding new places to go & things to do within a days drive. This time round drove down to Loch Katrine in the Trossachs & had a sail on the steamship "Sir Walter Scott" - very enjoyable - would do it again. Enjoyed meals out at Ardbrecknish, Glen Orchy Lodge.Dalmally & The George Hotel, Inveraray. If you enjoy a wee dram Inveraray now has 2 whisky shops - both well worth a visit. We hope to come back to Barr Beithe Lower for many years to come. There is a special atmosphere here. Thank you to the owners who always make us feel very welcome & do their best to ensure that we enjoy our stay.

Barr Beithe

A cottage alongside of Loch Awe, beautiful views of the loch from the lounge window. The cottage was beautifully furnished and well appointed with top of the range items. Three adults shared this three bedroom cottage (sleeps 5) and had a wonderful holiday. Plenty to see and do or just relax and enjoy the view. I cannot rate this particular accommodation highly enough. Ron Emerson.

An idyllic getaway in a beautiful location

Well what can we say --- Blarghour Farm cottages are an idyllic getaway in a beautiful location and Ile, Catriona and Martin make you feel as if you are coming home. We have stayed at Barr-beithe lower on two occasions in the last year, once in June 2015 and the second time in April 2016. At this time of year the lambing season is in full swing and children and adults alike will love watching the lambs have their "silly hour" when their acrobatics are a joy to watch. May is also bluebell time when the whole area carpeted in blue. The cottage itself is very well presented and scrupulously clean. A welcome tray when you arrive is a nice touch and Ile's shortbread is to die for. The views of Loch Awe seem to change every few minutes and can hold you enthralled. You feel very much part of the Blarghour Family with all the locals waving and greeting you. Amongst the places we visited were Inveraray Castle and Jail and we took the ferry from Oban to Mull. Cruachan Power Station is also well worth a visit and demonstrates an amazing feat of engineering. Must all mention the tasty fish supper at Tarbert, Loch Fyne. This holiday can be as quiet or as busy as you prefer and we can't wait for our next visit.

Clean, warm and well equipped cottage

The cottage was perfect for my family of five. It is very well equipped, clean, comfortable and warm. The views out over the loch are stunning and the feeling of complete isolation and silence was exactly what we were looking for. The walks into the hills and farm land surrounding the cottage are completely open and accessible. You could do a completely different walk everyday from your door step without having to step into the car. There is also enough lawn around the cottage for the kids to play. A wonderful family holiday.

Peaceful with wonderful views

We had a fabulous holiday at Barr-beithe lower. The cottage was clean and in a lovely location looking over the loch. We could happily spend all day sitting in the sunroom looking at the view. The kitchen had everything we needed and the beds were comfy. There was no shortage of things to do. There was an information pack in the cottage with lots of ideas. From the cottage you can walk on the farm and also along the loch road. We saw some deer when we were out walking. We walked along Crinnan canal tow path and visited the standing stones and burial cairns that were near by which were worth a visit. Inveraray Jail was very good. Had a lovely lunch at the George Hotel in Inveraray. visited Oban distillery and sampled their whiskey. Very nice!. We also drove through Glen Coe which was fantastic and did a trip to Taviallich and had lunch at the Taviallich Inn. Well worth a visit particularly if you like sea food. Catriona, the owner made us feel very welcome and was happy to talk to us. There was a cup of tea set up for when we arrived, which was much appreciated, and the home made shortbread was really, really nice. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and will go back again. This is a fabulous part of Scotland.
