Boat House at Sunlight SeaScape Gentle Retreat for 2 Whidbey Island

The Boat House is a bright, private, self contained studio apartment featuring bay views, beach access, patio, view deck, big garden, fire pits, king bed, kitchen, dining/work area, step-in tile shower, and charming, comfortable furnishings. The Boat House is the downstairs apartment of the Guest House.

Come enjoy clean air, clean water, clean land as we all do our part to steward the land and conserve our precious resources.

Short and long term stays.
*Pets must be pre approved. 30 lb max. Quiet, calm and well socialized. **Provide details: breed, age, quiet/calm, sociability. Pet fee dependent on stay length. Min $50.
-Two night minimum. Three night minimum stay Holidays, July, August
Great for long term stays.
-Change king bed to 1 or 2 singles, long stays only. Add bed fee $50.
-Cleaning fee depending on length of stay. Minimum $50
-Min. age to reserve is 30 yrs
*May request photo ID
*Notice: Guests hold Sunlight SeaScape and Olympic Marine View harmless for their use of bunkbed, property, beach area, walking path, and food items.


Whidbey Island's friendliness, commitment to community and healthy lifestyle is a fully wonderful experience. Whidbey Island is accessible via the Mukilteo ferry near Seattle and north via the Deception Pass bridge. Another ferry links Whidbey Island to the Olympic Peninsula via Coupeville ferry. Deception Pass Bridge links Whidbey Island to the mainland, Anacortes and the Skagit Valley.
There is free bus service around the island.
There are rental cars and cab service, also.

Come enjoy clean air, clean water, clean land as we all do our part to steward the land and conserve our precious resources.

Guest access
Tucked away, private and quiet, Sunlight SeaScape is located at the end of a beautiful neighborhood street on 3/4 acres of gardens and grassy areas. Our private, neighborhood’s beach is along a walking path on Sunlight Beach, Useless Bay on Whidbey Island. Parking on the property. Guests have access to the gardens, two fire pits and the grassy areas.

Guest interaction
We are available for recommendations and questions, particularly regarding our private beach, parking, respect for neighbors, water use, beach fires, burn bans and late night noise. Please call for information regarding the private beach and access to tidal Useless Bay.
*Call at least two days before your arrival for beach guidance, recommendations, additional beds.

Neighborhood overview
Our neighborhood, Olympic Marine View, is a quiet, private, family and pet oriented community. Respect for them is our primary focus. Guests who are a good fit for Sunlight SeaScape will deeply enjoy and appreciate their stay. Their characteristics include respect for the neighbors, watchful of traffic, slow driving, their parking, attendance to quiet hours after 10:00 pm, an awareness of smoke and burn bans, appropriate garbage and recycle disposal, their respectful use of furniture and furnishing including bedding and linens and towels and the respectful and appropriate use of our community beach and other accesses along Sunlight Beach. Guests will call before their arrival for details regarding the beach access.

Getting around
Whidbey Island is accessible via the Mukilteo ferry near Seattle and north via the Deception Pass bridge. There is free bus service around the island. There are rental cars and cab service, also. Whidbey Island's friendliness, commitment to community and healthy lifestyle is a fully wonderful experience.

Pictures had to of been taken a while ago didnt match the room seemed very out dated bed was very hard almost felt like a boxspring there was a large book of rules saying she wpuld charge you if you used to much power or water thay was just crazy to me. But what made it worse was i had a family emergency was willing to provide proof host informed me i COULD make changes to my booking as i was supposed to be there a week and wasnt even i The room 2 hours i get if i was charged for 1 night because it could of been available for rent but let her know right away she informed me how to lock up and to contact vrbo for the refund. Then she has just refused to answer any calls or text or emails from me or vrbo! She is a scam artist beware!!!!!!!

Cozy clean studio cabin with accessible beachfront and a short drive from Double Bluff Off-Leash beach. Quiet community, comfortable bed, nice outside space. Super relaxing. Small but functional kitchenette, best for simple meals. We will come back!

Peaceful beach retreat!

Quaint, lovely studio-size space with kitchenette and bath w/tiled shower. Kitchen appliances include mini-frig, microwave, toaster oven, and a plug-in electric stove top with 2 burners. The bed was comfortable, the linens crisp, and there were plenty of blankets and pillows. The rental includes onsite parking, a patio with grill, and a private grassy yard, although not fully fenced.There is an easy downhill gravel footpath to a private area which has a limited sandy beach, although a small public sandy beach is further down the road in about 1/2 mile. The host provided yummy homemade breakfast muffins with butter & jam, orange juice, and a coffee maker with great ground beans, half and half,

We had a wonderful stay here!

Easy check-in, great facilities, bed on the soft side for my taste, but I like a pretty firm bed. Clean, organized, quaint. She even left a steamer for us to use for our clothes when we asked. Joy was very attentive and easy to reach with questions. Lovely neighborhood near the beach - easy access to beach. All in all it was a wonderful stay!

4th of July stay

Beautiful location and property. So many bunnies hopping around. Joy was very attentive, welcoming and thoughtful. I was welcomed with flax muffins and a steamer (for my wrinkled dress). The views were gorgeous. She warned me about all the fireworks on the island since it was 4th of July and they did not disappoint. All in all, the visit was rejuvenating.

Best stay on the island

Everything was outstanding. The owner is a gem! I woke up in a comfy king sized bed with exquisite linens, to a view of the water, and fresh squeezed orange juice and cream for my coffee. The house and gardens are immaculate. I will definitely stay here Again!

Peaceful Whidbey retreat

We had a wonderful long weekend at Joy’s Boathouse! The space was very private, clean and bright. We loved waking up and going to bed looking out at Useless Bay! Joy was very helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend!

Great place to stay on Whidbey Island

Boat House at Sunlight SeaScape is a wonderful place for 1-2 people to stay on Whidbey Island. Beautiful location that has access to both a private and a public beach with amazing views. The suite is comfortable and well-appointed with everything you need for a lovely stay.

Wonderful vacation

We had an absolutely wonderful weekend staying at this property. The owner was kind and went out of her way to be a welcoming host. The property was clean, the location very accessible to local amenities, and the views are amazing! I would definitely consider staying here again.

Beautiful views!

Joy responds so quickly and gets you set up with the best option! This place is cozy, has a kitchen, everything we needed, plus great views, a nice fireplace, etc, etc. The property is gorgeous....and the views are just amazing!!!!

I am a retired high school level French teacher, loving travel and the beauty of the gardens and architecture of Europe.

The creation of Sunlight Seascape has been my passion and joy! As a child, I spent free, endless summer days on this beach, bay, and pasture learning how to swim, dig clams, build forts, and ride horses.

Capturing the natural beauty of the sea, land, and spacious sky was my inspiration in Sunlight SeaScape’s design and construction.

Building began on the property while I was teaching advanced French classes. The passions of nature, freedom, and culture blended together in the creation of this beautiful place.

I love this Useless Bay, Sunlight Beach and surrounding pastures and mountain views. I love sharing this property and safe, friendly and stunningly beautiful Whidbey Island with my guests who also appreciate its beauty and precious resources for access to Nature.

I began designing beautiful gardens and simple, exquisite interior spaces to connect with their natural settings. This property inspires me each morning as I breathe the clean, fresh air and experience the abundant beauty of mountains, sky, ocean and activity on the beach. Pastures and forests are our land constant while dragonflies and hummingbirds soar. Sometimes a baby otter will bob its head in Useless Bay as ships pass in the straits. Sunsets in the big sky complete amazing days in all seasons. As I grew up and become a nature lover, I will always love sharing Sunlight SeaScape on Whidbey, the beautiful Northwest getaway I get to call home.
