Sobre esta propriedade

Stunning, historic two bedroom Barn with private garden on Dartmoor

We have converted our historic 19th Century former Coach House into a beautiful, spacious and very comfortable two bedroomed holiday let. The perfect getaway for a family or couple looking for some peace and quiet amidst outstanding natural beauty. The Grade 2 listed property has its own private south west facing garden, contained within our 17th century walled garden. Inside, the property is light and spacious, occupying the entire top floor of the building with beautiful original timber beams throughout. Built of local solid granite, the entrance to the building is via the ground floor through the old stalls and original tack room and up a wooden staircase. The open plan central living space incorporates the kitchen, dining and living room, with a door leading directly onto the garden outside (via a couple of steps). A large glazed opening in the central roof space gives extra light and beautiful views of the trees. The kitchen is brand new and well equipped with a full size fridge freezer, electric fan oven, dishwasher and double butler sink, with views through our round window to the trees beyond. Two bedrooms occupy each end of the central living space. The master bedroom has a king size bed, with ensuite bathroom containing a shower and full sized bath. The second bedroom has two single beds and an ensuite shower room. The property has super fast broadband connection. We have a DVD player/ screen and a library of DVD's, aswell as a selection of board games, books, guides and maps of local interest. Outside in the courtyard there is parking available for one car (we can accommodate two by arrangement). We also have a ping pong table on the ground floor which guests are welcome to use! Our house is adjacent to the property, where we live with our two children aged 12 and 15. We are located in the village of Lustleigh, one of the prettiest villages on Dartmoor with a village shop and excellent pub, it is an idyllic spot with numerous beautiful walks in all directions - some from the front door. Dartmoor National park is one of the UK's last great wildernesses. 368 square miles of heather clad moorland, rushing rivers and obscure stone tors shaping the wide open landscape. Rolling valleys, waterfalls, well trodden paths, ancient forests and beautiful ruins in abundance. A host of outdoor activities are available including wild swimming, hiking, horse riding, caving canoeing, tennis, golf etc..

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

The landscape here is stunningly beautiful and unspoilt - a very inspiring and peaceful place to be. Ancient, wild and unpolluted, Dartmoor National Park is one of the last great wilderness in the UK. There are incredible walking opportunities as well many other outer activities including horseriding, wild swimming, canoeing, caving, cycling, tennis, golf etc.. There are several National Trust properties in the vicinity, and interesting local towns to explore. The nearest beaches are about 40 minutes away. Lustleigh itself is one of the most picturesque villages on the moor with a good pub, shop, tearooms and community apple orchard with playground. A beautiful walk through the fields and over a stream takes you directly from the property to the heart of the village. There are many other pretty villages and towns locally, and some interesting National Trust properties.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

We fell in love with and bought a very historic set of buildings that date back to the early 14th century, in need of complete renovation! The Grade 2 listed Coach House is the last of these renovations. It was originally built around 1830 as a stable for the old Manor House here in Lustleigh - with cart bays, hayloft and groom's accommodation. It is a handsome and characterful building with many historic features which we wanted to preserve as fully as possible. You enter the property through the downstairs cobbled stalls, along through the tack room where the groom lit his fire and hung up his saddlery. Upstairs in the former hayloft we wanted to keep an open plan feel - the original roof beams are exposed throughout the length of the property. We were keen for it to feel cosy and luxurious, and so we installed underfloor heating throughout, which keeps the whole apartment super toasty. The overall effect is of all the modern conveniences in an authentic and sensitive historic conversion. We have top speed broadband but we also have some carefully preserved authentic nineteenth century graffiti!
