Overview
Located within a 15-minute walk to the picturesque village of Fontaine de Vaucluse, this ca. 100m2 loft-style conversion has all modern facilities - a fully equipped kitchen, two double bedrooms, a mezzanine ideally suited for children, a large Italian-style bathroom with two showers and a separate WC.

Le Refuge sleeps a maximum of 5 people and is located near Fontaine de Vaucluse, ca. 1.2 km from the village center and 6 km from Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, a picturesque small town renowned for its antique markets, stores and art galleries at the foot of the Luberon mountain range. Views over the countryside are truly spectacular.

This large holiday rental, exquisitely decorated in a Provençal style accentuating the ceiling’s wood beams and stone walls, is situated on the ground floor of the owners' home. It has a separate independent entrance, a terrace accessible from the kitchen/dining room, as well as a private courtyard with a stone-built filtered pool (ca 6x4.5m) operated from June until September. Nice fully equipped kitchen with dining area, living room with an entertainment corner and a detached sleeping space with a queen-sized bed. A main bedroom with two twin beds and wardrobe, a mezzanine with 2 single beds. A beautiful bathroom with Italian-style shower and 2 sinks. Separate WC. Bedroom linen and towels provided. Housecleaning at the end of the stay and all taxes are included in the rental price. Prices vary depending on the season.

We had a wonderful and relaxing stay at Le Refuge. The gite is close to lots of beautiful villages and good places to eat. Le Refuge is well equipped; we had everything we needed for our stay. Dirk is a charming host. With his tips we visited places we would not have found ourselves. We would recommend it.

Great Place to explore Provence

La Refuge is a great beautiful place for your stay in Provence. However, you have to be aware that the owner lives upstairs just above the house. He is eager to communicate, which can be both an advantage or a disadvantage. We felt an eye upon us all the time, so if you just want to be by yourself, this should be considered. The Place itself is very good.

I am sorry you did not read the detailed description of the property prior to your reservation. You would have been aware that the gite/holiday cottage is situated on the ground floor of the owner’s home, but with a separate entrance, as well as a pool, terrace and courtyard for the exclusive use by the holiday makers. You would have also known in advance that the owner regularly cleans the pool and court. This is always done in a discreetly manner – if possible when the holiday makers are away from the property to respect their privacy. The reviews of Le Refuge show that its holiday makers much appreciate the well-maintained pool and courtyard.

Beautiful location

A lovely, very spacious, very well equipped guest house in Provence. Fontaine du Vaucluse is a beautiful area of Provence and great base for exploring the region. The host, Dirk, was always available and very eager to help plan excursions and adventures during our stay. There is a speed bump situated right in front of the house on the main road which was a little bit disruptive for the front bedroom at night.

I am pleased to that the speed bump placed on the road along “Le Refuge” in 2024 has meanwhile been removed. Speeding by vehicles is now exclusively being prevented by a no-noise causing technical narrowing of the road. J'ai le plaisir de noter que le dos d'âne placé sur la route le long du « Refuge » en 2024 a été démonté entre-temps. La réduction de la vitesse des véhicules est désormais exclusivement atteinte par un resserrement technique de la route ne générant plus de bruit. Ich freue mich, mitteilen zu können, dass die 2024 auf der Straße entlang des „Le Refuge“ eingesetzte Geschwindigkeitsschwelle inzwischen entfernt wurde. Die Beschränkung der Verkehrsgeschwindigkeit erfolgt nun ausschliesslich durch eine technische Verengung der Straße, die keinen Lärm mehr verursacht.

Charming retreat

Great accommodations with modern conveniences. Short walk to a lovey village with 12th century ruins in the rocks above, as well as restaurants and shops. Very comfy TV area for relaxing after sightseeing and a beautiful outdoor area to drink wine from the nearby local vineyards. Host recommended a scenic drive for the afternoon which was a favorite and was helpful with dinner plans, etc. Ideal! Thank you!

Just Superior!

Probably one of the best stays we have ever had. We read all the 5 star reviews and understand now why. Property is charming and fully outfitted with everything you might need; meticulously well kept. Great location, and Dirk is a 5-star host who has lovingly restored his home and made this an easy recommendation from us! Dirk, if you'd have put a comfy lounge chair out by the pool for me to read - we probably would never have left!

The property was as described online. The house was well equipped with all the necessary essentials. Dirk is an amazing host. He offered excellent suggestions on sites to see during our limited stay. I would not hesitate to stay at his location in the future.

Wonderful base to explore Provence

Lovely well appointed property which is without doubt the best equipped we have ever stayed at. Off road parking, private pool, secluded courtyard, fully equipped kitchen (even washing powder and dishwasher tablets are provided). Dirk really has thought of everything!Dirk, the host, is attentive and happy to provide ideas for days out or activities should you need them.The property is located in a quiet hamlet about 15 minutes walk into Fontaine de Valcluse which is a picturesque town with a bakery, and many restaurants. The nearest supermarket is about a 5 minute drive The property and the local area are lovely, and provide a great base for visiting wider Provence.

A very special experience

We feel so fortunate to have discovered Le Reguge. The house is exceptionally equipped and beautifully restored. Dirk went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and shared the environs with us. We’ve never had such a gracious and interesting host. We have been renting for decades and this visit stands out in every aspect. And it wasn’t even pool season!

Peaceful Provence

Our stay in this house was amazing. Very comfortable with a beautiful location. The home was well supplied with all your needs. The host is gracious and full of useful and great advice. You can also enjoy a bottle of wine with him and the view of the Galas Aqueduct is divine. We will be back! The town is sleepy and lovely. During our time we took a horseback lesson, rode Mont Ventoux and visited many markets and towns. Best holiday yet!! Thanks again Dirk!!

Spacious, secluded stay in a historical stone building

Stone house and oversized wooden beams, spacious indoor and outdoor areas, make this a unique holiday home while travelling. Well equipped kitchen with lovely indoor and outdoor dining areas connected by a massive sliding door to bring the outdoors in and expand the overall feel. Used the swimming pool to cool off after a day of touring. Convenient parking for our car. Our host, Dirk, lives onsite and regularly checked in to be sure everything in the gîte was operating as expected and offered suggestions for exploring the local area. Used the washer and clothes ( and wet bathing suits) dried easily outdoors on the drying rack.

After a three-week tour of Italy and France that included 6 different Vrbo's - I can say without hesitation, that Le Refuge in Fontaine de Vaucluse was the best of them all! Extraordinary in every way. Dirk's wonderful Gite - more like a grotto - is incredibly enchanting. From the gorgeous patio and private pool to the perfectly appointed kitchen and luxury bathroom - we wished we had booked our stay with Dirk for at least another week. The village of Fontaine De Vaucluse is a must - it is breathtakingly beautiful and offers wonderful ambiance and entertainment. That being said - our preference after a full day of sightseeing was to come home to Le Refuge, open a bottle of wine and sit by the pool! I promise you will not be disappointed with this OUTSTANDING Vrbo - but I encourage you not to dawdle around and book your stay before it's gone. You will also find Dirk - the owner of Le Refuge - to be a wonderful and considerate host. BEST VRBO EVER!

Wir haben im Refuge zwei wunderschöne, entspannte Wochen genossen. Das Refuge ist sehr geschmackvoll und gemütlich eingerichtet und bietet idyllisch von der Mauer umfriedet viel Ruhe. Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt.Dirk ist ein sehr netter, rücksichtsvoller Vermieter, der bei Fragen gerne für Tipps bereit steht.Das Refuge ist aussergewöhnlich gut ausgestattet und sehr sauber.Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder.

Toller Urlaub

Wir hatten mit unseren beiden Kindern einen tollen Aufenthalt in der Unterkunft. Im Haus ist alles vorhanden was man braucht und Dirk als Gastgeber hatte viele tolle und hilfreiche Tipps für uns. Die Lage des Hauses ist optimal um die vielen kleinen, traumhaft schönen Orte drum herum, aber auch die größeren Städte wie Marseille und Avignon schnell zu erreichen ohne lange im Auto zu sitzen. Wir als Eltern haben uns genauso wohl gefühlt wie unseren beiden Kinder. Die haben vor allem die Pool mehr als genossen.

Si vous aimez passer avec le propriétaire cette maison est pour!

Propriétaire très /trop présent. Survient à l’improviste. Attention à votre tenue😂 Habite dans la même maison et surveille tous les faits et gestes. Pas permis de sauter dans la piscine, taper dans l’eau etc. ce qu’on avait pas vu à la réservation et qui a causé quelques désagréments. Pas vraiment d’intimité, pas vraiment des chambres. On entends tout. Sinon très belle maison, très beau site.

Certains vacanciers, très peu nombreux, sont simplement des personnes malheureuses qui veulent rendre les autres malheureux à leur tour. Cette personne était ma première locataire comme ça en six ans qui avait réservé pour deux adultes et qui est venue avec deux jeunes enfants supplémentaires qui ont été laissés sans surveillance à la maison pendant la journée. A tous ceux qui lisent ceci, je suggère que vous lisiez au moins quelques-unes de mes autres avis avant de décider si vous voulez réserver mon gîte ou non. Merci.

Sehr offen gestaltete Ferienwohnung

Wir haben mit unseren 2 Töchtern eine schöne Zeit in der Unterkunft verbracht. Die Wohnung ist mit allem ausgestattet. Die Offenheit als Loft hat uns sehr gefallen und ist ideal für eine Familie. Der Pool war ein besonderes Highlight für die Kinder. Dirk als Vermieter wohnt im selben sehr geschmackvoll hergerichteten Haus und steht immer mit Empfehlungen zur Seite. Wir haben viel von der schönen Gegend kennengelernt.

Un séjour paradisiaque dans un gite où tout a été pensé pour le repos, la tranquillité et le bien être des vacanciers. Tolle Unterkunft mit herzlichem Kontakt zum Vermieter

Die Wohnung ist sehr gepflegt und top eingerichtet. Die Wohnung ist auch im Sommer bei heissen Temperaturen herrlich kühl. Den Pool haben wir sehr geschätzt. War eine angenehme Abkühlung bei den heissen Sommertemperaturen. In der Wohnung haben wir alles vorgefunden, was wir benötigten. Ist mit sehr viel Liebe eingerichtet. Der Vermieter gibt im regelmässigen Kontakt wertvolle Tipps über die Umgebung. Die Wohnung ist optimal gelegen für Ausflüge in der Umgebung. Konnten sehr viel von der Provence entdecken. Wir hatten einen wundervollen Urlaub für 2 Wochen. Wir empfehlen die Wohnung nun gerne weiter und komme gerne einmal wieder.

Excellent sejour

Le bien est très bien tenu, très propre et il ne manque absolument rien. Le propriétaire vit à l’étage et est très présent et disponible. Le seul bémol est la proximité avec la route et donc les nuisances qui vont avec. Il y avait peu de passages, mais plutôt à vive allure.

Merci beaucoup pour votre évaluation positive de mon gîte. Je suis donc désolé que vous n'ayez pas tenu compte dans la description que la propriété est située près d'une route départementale. Je regrette également que vous vous sentiez dérangé par les rares voitures qui passent sur la route pendant la nuit. Vous avez été le premier et le seul visiteur à le faire pendant les quatre années pendant lesquelles j'ai loué mon gîte.

Idyllic stay in Provence

Beautiful loft style property which was the best equipped of any place we have ever stayed in. The pool was lovely and much bigger than the photos make it seem. The terrace and courtyard were very comfortable and private and we spent many happy evenings there. We really appreciate the effort Dirk took to ensure our stay was as good as possible- advising us on local days out and making sure everything was perfect. Our highlights of the week include: canoeing at Canoe Evasion and the L’isle sur la Sorgue Sunday market. Thanks Dirk!

Lovely gite, great location

We have had a great stay in Le Refuge, as a family with two kids. The house is very comfortable and well equipped. The garden and private pool are very enjoyable. Owner has long been in love with this beautiful region and in 2018 relocated from London to Provence to pursue a life change. Speaks English, German and French.

The cottage is part of a stunning stone-built village house near the famous town of Fontaine de Vaucluse on the edge of the spectacular Luberon region with its many town markets, restaurants, museums and galleries. The residence is just 6 km from the market and antiquities town of L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, 25 km from Avignon (TGV train station, Palais de Papes) and just a few minutes from famous Luberon villages such as Gordes, Lacoste, Bonnieux, Roussillon and Lourmarin. Also in easy reach are unique day-trip destinations such as Mont Ventoux (35 km), Les Baux (50 km), Arles (65 km), Aix-en-Provence (75 km), the Carmargue ( 90 km) or the Ardèche (130 km). Even most beautiful beaches are less than a 2 hour car trip away (e.g. Cassis with its pebble/rock beaches or Les-Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer with its sandy beaches).

The holiday rental is in a beautiful 18th century converted village house with lots of character. Due to its location, the house is well protected from the mistral and has a fantastic sheltered courtyard (not accessible to public view) with a very pretty stone-built pool allowing for lingering on sun-deck chairs or outdoor BBQs and dining on the large terrace during warm Provençal evenings.
