Summer is Here.....Plan Your Getaway at Big Red!

Lake Home details and Summer Activities:
Bring your family and friends to Big Red on Comstock for a week of swimming, fishing, kayaking, 4-wheeling and many more fun activities. Big Red on Comstock features 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, sauna (with shower), laundry room, game room, open concept living area with dining room and full kitchen. Includes 30' x 40' heated garage to park 2 vehicles. Also a weight bench and foosball table!
Enjoy beautiful views of Comstock Lake in the main living area with vaulted ceilings and a wall of windows. Big Red also has a huge wrap around deck that can accommodate your group.
On the main floor, Bedroom #1 includes large king size bed with walk-in closet. Bedroom #2 includes two twin size bunk beds (one bed has a twin trundle). On the lower level, bedroom #3 includes one bunk bed with twin on top and full on bottom. Bedroom #4 includes one queen size bed. For additional sleeping, Big Red offers: full size futon located in the sauna room and full size sofa sleeper in the upper level family room.
Big Red on Comstock is fenced in and situated on 1.7 acres with over 300 ft of lake shore! Enjoy either relaxing on the sandy beach or cooling off with a swim. Our swimming area has a gradual drop-off, which is great for kids.

Available for use are 2, 10 ft kayaks.
After a fun day, relax and enjoy a s'more or two using the available fire pit situated next to the shore. Big Red on Comstock is surrounded by thousands of acres of state and county land. So bring your ATV, mountain bike or hiking shoes. Please note, we do not provide ATVs or guided rides.
Big Red features 2 large family rooms, perfect for entertaining. Challenge your friends or family members to a game of pool in the game room along with a variety of board games. You can also watch a DVD from our library collection on the large 55" flat screen TV. On cooler nights, you can fire up the free-standing, wood burning fireplace and get nice and toasty! Don't forget, there is also a 4 person sauna w/shower located on lower level of house. Sauna is equipped with an electric furnace. Bring personal items, gear, food, and beverage. Enjoy!

To all our previous guests; Thank you for the feedback. We now offer a second refrigerator and installed a central air conditioning unit to keep the main level cool for the hot summer days.

We had another perfect stay at Big Red- the highlight of our summer together! Plenty of room for our 4 families to spread out, play, and relax. All of the essentials provided, and the best location on beautiful Comstock Lake. Can’t recommend Big Red enough!

Family Vacation

Best house we've rented so far as far as dealing with the owner and amenities. Was very well stocked and worked perfect for our family, big yard, nice beach and pontoon was a nice added bonus.

We enjoyed our stay at Big Red with our kids and 5 g’kids. Very well-equipped kitchen, great air conditioning and comfortable beds. Lake was nice and kids caught fish off the dock. Plenty of room for charades and ‘dance parties’. Our one tiny issue (soap shortage) was quickly addressed. We were disappointed in the ‘office’ area that was not a room at all, just an open area with a desk since our son had to work the week we stayed. He had to hole up in a bedroom to get quiet. Once the kids were not allowed to use devices during the day (not a bad idea at all!) the WiFi was adequate.

Great family vacation!

Big Red is a wonderful vacation property for a large family or group of friends. We had all the comforts of home and more. Great sandy beach, pontoon and kayaks provided days of fun. We are hoping to come back in the winter and try out the crappie fishing!

Great family getaway

We've been coming to Big Red for 4-5 days each summer for the past three years. There's plenty of space inside and out for large groups. The house is well stocked with everything you might need and being able to rent the pontoon boat is a nice extra.

Wonderful family cabin

Our family group (including 4 children under 5) had a very comfortable and fun stay. Great shallow swimming area, beach is perfect for sandcastles, nice large yard to play in. Cabin itself is overall great, very serviceable kitchen, bedrooms are fine. Nice TV and play area in the basement for the kids. If you're looking for a family vacation spot, i highly recommend.

Another Great Year!

A Lovely Stay at Big Red

Our 4 families had another fun-filled, relaxing stay at Big Red. We cooked delicious meals, spent so much time on the lake, played frisbee, enjoyed the fire, and had no trouble entertaining ourselves when a couple storms passed through. Communication with the hosts was impeccable- quick and responsive. Big Red is always one of the best weeks of summer for all of us!

Great time at Big Red

Everyone including the dogs had a blast during our time at Big Red! Plenty to keep everyone occupied, pool table for "friendly" matches. Pontoon to stroll around the lake. Great dock to catch fish. Awesome firepit and good wood for fires at night (even though the bugs were crazy..) Hosts were very easy to contact and quick to respond! Would give Big Red 10 stars!!!!

Another perfect trip to Big Red

We are returning guests for 6 summers now because Big Red is the perfect spot. We have a full house with four families and there’s something for everyone! Nick and Mandy do a great job of updating every year. Highlights include swimming in the lake, playing music on the deck, movies on the big couch and cooking meals in the well-appointed kitchen. I couldn’t recommend this rental highly enough!

Perfect in every way

Spending time with our precious family was awesome and the place we chose to stay was just what we needed without knowing it. All nine of us, including three little boys, had a terrific time doing fun 'adventures' in the area. Then we came home in the afternoon to a wonderful place to eat, hang out and sleep. Hopefully we'll be able to do it again in a few years.

We love big red!!

The property is amazing! Being right on the water and having your own beach makes such a huge difference for convenience. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need to cook for our big group and the second fridge made it possible so we didn’t have to go to the store halfway through. The dirt road to get to the cabin is a little long but so worth the trip! Don’t question it, just book it!

Loved our time at Big Red. Had lots of room and plenty of space to spread out.

Overall it was a great experience at Big Red. There was plenty of room for 8 adults and 5 kids and 2 dogs. The beach was great for the kids and the adults enjoyed the kayaking. The only downsides were the air conditioning seemed not to work great, especially in late afternoon and with all the shades closed. Bugs were also bad, but that is just part of Minnesota. Overall a great stay and comfortable place. Would rent again!

Great play to enjoy any type of stay

We would highly recommend anyone renting Big Red. There were only 2 of us and even though the house could hold more it was a perfect fit. The weather wasn't as accommodating as we would have hoped but there was still so much to do inside and outside of the house. The lake is amazingly quite and your just far enough away from others to relax. The house was super clean and comfortable and the owners were great and extremely informative where everything was and how it worked when we arrived. I hope we find out way back to MN in our future to stay again at Big Red and we plan on recommeding this rental to EVERYONE!

Tacheny vacation July 14th-21st 2024

Overall everything was just what we expected as shown on the web site. There was 12 of us and one dog and plenty of room for everyone. Yard was amazing. Was not out a lot late afternoon due to bugs but kids and pet had plenty of room to play. Very nice having two fridges. Did not notice the filter water until last day in back fridge but we bought plenty. Pontoon was great for week and nice to have all the life jackets, kayaks, and chairs available for the beach. Pool table was well used. We will recommend and be back again some year. Host were very easy and quick to communicate.

Great For An Extended Family

We brought the whole family of cousins and parents together and had a great time in the cabin. Mandy was very accommodating and responsive. We loved the added touch of leaving the s'mores kit for our trip. We enjoyed kayaking, fishing, swimming, boating, excursions to Duluth and the range and just relaxing with families. The cabin is well equipped, clean and comfortable. We've rented a lot and that isn't always true with cabin rentals. One of the best things was the ample furniture inside to all hang out and watch movies or relax. The game room in the lower level was a huge hit with the cousins (ages 7-18). We made ourselves right at home and Mandy made that very easy to do!

I will for sure be coming back a third time!

This property is 8 hours away from where I live in North dakota, but it's 100% worth the drive for me. It was just me and my three dogs for most of the stay, which wasn't exactly planned as it's a bit much for one person, but it's perfect for my dogs... As far as pet friendly places this is about as good as it gets. The property is huge, the yard is huge and completely fenced in.. for my dogs it's like being able to stay overnight at the dog park and the beach combined. It is about 30 or 40 minutes away from the nearest town so you want to make sure you pack enough groceries and supplies, but being somewhat remote is pretty nice. The lake isn't busy, there are only a few cabins which are spread out pretty far on this side of the lake... But it makes for a very peaceful stay. And with so little light pollution the sky is absolutely breathtaking at night. Having a sauna in the basement is such an underrated perk. I used it everday before bed, which not only helped sweat out the mosquito spray but had me sleeping like a rock. There's a pool table, sauna, big sectional downstairs and upstairs, a Pontoon available to rent, massive yard, a beach area with sand, and a great game room...along with a huge deck and a fantastic view of the lake.. this has about everything someone could ask for in a cabin. I'm definitely going to be coming back next year!

A great Minnesota get away for our family!

My husband and I wanted to bring our entire family on a summer vacation, 6 adults, 8 grandkids (ages 9 mths- 11 yrs old). Big Red couldn't have been a better choice! It had the charm of a cozy cabin - but spacious and accommodating for the entire family! * Fantastic views from inside to out. * Evening fires from the wood burning stove or fire pit with easy access to fire wood. * The large well kept lawn, gave the kids room to run and find their way to the sandy beach, while giving parents a nice view of them from deck to dock. * Lawn chairs, deck chairs, breakfast bar to sectional couches- plenty of room to sit, stretch out or take a nap! * Games to play from pool, chess, to candy land. * Movies to watch, wifi, and a relaxing sauna. * Pontoon fishing- walleye, bass, blue gills, and big ole sunnies! * Wild life from eagles to toads. *Quite rooms for a restful sleep. * Easy clean up with the dishwasher, and laundry room. Big Red has so much to offer. Nick and Mandy make sure comfort and hospitality are key. Thanks for the great Up North experience from our entire family!! Just one more thing- Mandy we tried to be good about taking our shoes off at the door just like at home...but as you said it was our home for the week and that's the way it was!!!!

Best Place on the Lake

Relaxing and luxurious

My family (12 of us in total) rented this cabin for the 2nd year in a row because it offers great yard space and a beach shoreline for swimming. The home is very spacious. The owners are phenomenal with being prepared, communicating, and making sure your stay is a memorable one. I highly recommend.

Our happy place with our best friends

Big Red is the perfect out-of-the-way stay for a large group (ours is four families - 14 people). Not too far from the Twin Cities with all the best small lake amenities and easy proximity to Duluth. We especially enjoy the variety of indoor spaces to accommodate kids and adults, beautiful views from the main room and the deck, sweeping lawn for fun and games, private beach with shallow wading waters, and of course the boat. We've gone five years now with our oldest and best friends and their families, and it's one of our favorite traditions. Nick and Mandy are amazing hosts that make our stay perfect year after year. We love Big Red!

My wife and I love the outdoors. When we were looking for our first home, all we wanted was a lake home. This home showed up on our search site and it checked every box that we were looking for, and then some! After we bought our home, the first night we stayed there, we saw the most beautiful sunset we had ever seen! Since then, we've enjoyed a different sunset every night. This is a very special place to us and we truly hope you enjoy what all Big Red on Comstock has to offer!
