Property is located approximately 2.5 miles to Mimosa Boat Landing, 6 miles from Lake James State Park and Lake James Marina.
One mile from Catawba River access. Close to Linville Gorge, and Grandfather Mountain, Enjoy Swimming, Fishing, hiking, Kayak, Paddle Board minutes from your front door. Close to Local Breweries, Wineries, Antique Shops.

House sits atop a gentle hill to maximize views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Mount Mitchell. 2 master suites, each with full bathrooms. (both bathrooms accessible through bedrooms only) Kitchen with breakfast bar. New stainless steel appliances (refrigerator, range, dishwasher, and microwave). Large living room with Mountain View. Beautiful elevated deck off front overlooking expansive grounds including private stocked pond. Large patio with pergola in back. Fire Pits, Covered Picnic Area.

The property was beautiful and private.

The house was comfortable with plenty of space for our group of eight close friends. The kitchen was well stocked and perfect for cooking. All areas were clean and well maintained.

Beauty and relaxation in NC mountains. Wonderful owners!

This is the perfect place for a mid-sized family to stay when visiting Morganton. I came here with my wife and three children and not only did we all fit comfortably, but there was even some space to spare. The amenities were extremely convenient and the estate outdoors was divine, especially as the sun was setting. This will definitely be our go-to spot next time we visit Morganton!

We had, what should have been a work trip, turn into a vacation each evening upon arriving at this beautiful property. Nature lovers paradise, with apple and fig tree's, incredible hydragea's and huge catfish in the pond! If we ever find ourselves in the area again we are sure to stay here! The owners responded immediately to any questions and were attentive to every detail - right down to beautiful flower arrangements left on each table. It was hard to leave.

Nice

The property is nice. It’s not amazing, but it’s nice. It’s even quaint. The house is fine, a place to eat and sleep. Not a luxury estate but serviceable. The best part for us was the pond with fishing reels, the fire pit with lights and the small front porch for chilling out. Property owners were very nice and helpful. If you’re looking for a decent place, a little off the beaten path, this is a good place to stay.

Western North Caroline Gem!

Nancy's home was perfect. It was exactly as the photos showed. We were in town for a family birthday party and the house was clean, neat and comfortable. We fished at the pond and enjoyed the private yard. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen area was great and the bathrooms were bright and clean. We have family in the area and we're able to have a family dinner one of the nights. Nancy was very easy to communicate with. Check in and check out were a breeze. Thanks you for a relaxing weekend!!!

McKinney party of five!

This home provided a perfect setting for my husband and I, our adult daughter and married son and his wife with 2 masters/ bathrooms and an extra bedroom. The property included space to store our boat with Lake James only a few minutes away. We enjoyed it so much we asked to stay an extra night! So much outdoor space for individual and group time. The propeprty included lots of space to walk and explore, fishing from the pond and a fire pit for the evening. Plenty of space in the full size refrigerator to hold all the food we brought and the gas grill was great. We enjoyed the dining area space as it was extended through french doors to an outside patio/pergola for fellowship. We will definitely return for more memories! Thanks for having us!!

Family Getaway

Our family enjoyed this beautiful property. We loved our welcome sign and welcome note, it made us feel welcomed! We spent every morning on the porch with our coffee watching the birds. The firepit and stargazing at night. My boys, big and little,lol, had so much fun trying to catch lizards and fishing at the pond on the property. Jim and Laura went above and beyond with all the little things, ex: fishing pole with a lure ready for fishing,fishing pole holders set up down at the pond, wood for the firepits and roasting marshmallow sticks.The house was very clean and cozy. We had all the amenities you need, coffee pot, full size nice kitchen with pots, pans, dishes, etc. Nice washer and dryer. Two master bedrooms with comfy beds and nice size full baths. A couple of things I would recommend , a patio dining set on the stone patio outside the dining room french doors, dressers in the bedrooms, and wifi. Other then that the place was perfect wouldn't change anything.

Back to nature

We were in the area for my son's wedding and this home was perfect for our geographically separated (NC, WV, OH, CA) family to have privacy and that "home" feel that we could not have gotten in a hotel. The front porch is perfect for a quiet morning coffee or evening glass of wine. The fire pit and back patio also invite you to come sit awhile and visit. While our visit was too short, this home gave us respite and peaceful setting during an otherwise chaotic weekend. This really is a special place. Our only regret is that we didn't have more time to spend there. Laura was easy to contact and communication was great. I will say however whatever you do, pull into the drive at a snail's pace (and I mean less than 15 mph) because the neighbor on the adjacent property will be standing in her yard or car port yelling at you and motioning for you to slow down. I pulled in slowly as the road is gravel and was only doing about 15 and she came running outside waving her arms gesturing for us to slow down.

Fishing Weekend

We had a great time at this property. The house was comfortable and plenty of room for the four of us. The area was perfect with nearby Lake James for fishing. The on property fishing pond was great, however a little overgrown. Interactions with the owners were simple,courteous, and efficient. I would recommend this location to anyone.

Trip to Lake James

This is a pleasant place to get away from everything - fish, enjoy the fire pit, plenty of family friendly movies available - but you’ll want to come fully prepared or you’ll spend your time driving more than relaxing. There is no wi-fi and basics like shampoo, soap, coffee, etc. are not stocked like we’ve seen in other VRBOs. Additionally, because of Covid they do not provide pillows or blankets, so make sure you pack those & stop at the store before you arrive. You’ll then be able to relax and enjoy.

Family Mountain Trip

Long weekend visit with extended family

Three siblings were visiting our father in Morganton. He was not able to accommodate all of us at his house, so we rented this farm house. We were able to spend the days and early evenings with him, and then catch up with each other each night around the fire pit. The place was perfect for us to talk around the fire and play games inside.

McKinney party of five!

This was our second visit to Hawks Feather Farm and a perfect family retreat for 5 adults! Such a great find! This house is private, well kept, super comfortable, neat and clean with linens and the kitchen was well stocked! There was nothing we needed. Communication with owners was great and access super easy. We enjoy kayaking and boating on nearby Lake James and then returning to so much outdoor space to explore on this property. Space to hike, fishing time at the pond, ambiance at the firepit w/ market lights...... Our only regret is we needed more time! Look forward to our next adventure at Hawks Feather Farm!

Morganton Cabin

This property is very unique. The owners are nice but do take into account that there is NO WIFI or form of television. House is creaky and dated. Odd layout with 2nd bathroom attached to secondary master bedroom meaning whoever is staying in third room must go into others bedroom to use bathroom. Good getaway if you’re looking to sequester in woods.

Hawks Feather Farm is a unique getaway, as well as a comfortable place to stay. No WiFi is clearly advertised. We have plenty of guests who enjoy the escape and take in the natural setting. The home accommodates 8 guests and is a value alternative for larger groups. It’s a modest home that is always clean and presentable for guests. Hotspots work well for WiFi/internet access.

Very Nice house wish it could have worked for us.

The house is a little hard to find GPS does not take you to the right road. House is very nice, unfortunately both my husband and I needed to use the internet for work while we were on vacation, was not available for our stay, so we did not stay and drove 4 hours back home the same day, also the TV is only for DVD use be sure to bring some with you. If you do not need the internet and want to disconnect this would be the perfect house.

In an effort to clarify this guest review of our property.... This guest made a last minute request to stay, the evening before they would arrive. They requested early check-in and late check out, which we approved. We happened to be out of town during the booking request, the hotspot for wifi is usually left as a courtesy to all guests. The TV is a Smart TV and functions more than for watching DVDs. GPS brings you directly to the address for the property, however, the home is located off a shared access gravel driveway. Detailed instructions are given to each guest prior to arrival. In this case, she and I spoke as she was approaching the property and confirmed she had inadvertently passed the gravel road. We appreciate each guest and respect their time spent on our property. We reconciled with this guest and offered a refund.

We first discovered the Lake James area in 2005 and it was love at first sight, from the incredible vistas of Linville gorge, to the crystal clear mountain water that fills the lake and flows down the Catawba River, to the miles of shoreline to explore, all just minutes from the front door. We quickly developed a passion for introducing friends to the mountain to lake experience. We think this area is the best kept secret in North Carolina. Several years ago we had the opportunity to acquire this beautiful piece of land just one mile from the lake with the plan to expand our ability to offer people the extraordinary opportunity to enjoy a relaxing and stress reducing Mountain to Lake Retreat. We have been able to do this at extremely affordable rates compared to more heavily marketed destinations with higher name recognition
