One bedroom cottage uniquely situated on the water front in St Margarets Hope, South Ronaldsay ,Orkney. Originally a fishermans storehouse Noust .This cottage has been tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard. Decorated with many original Orkney arts and crafts.

This property was wonderful.It had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Great location, just a minute from the ferry landing.About twenty minutes from Kirkwall, Tesco and lots of shops.Even got to watch a seal swim around outside the living room window.

1 The Noust is a perfect haven for a quiet retreat and to explore mainland Orkney. The cottage is extremely well equipped, especially the kitchen. The storage heaters made the cottage just comfortable, without being 'too hot.' There are some lovely walks around the village and a local shop for any groceries required. The host provides excellent communication regarding booking, key access, the cottage itself and answered any queries within mins. For us, this cottage was a special find and we hope to return one day. Thank you Catriona.

Very nice cozy cottage with a gorgeous view. We had some beautiful weather for the time of year. Couple of great pubs and a couple of shops. 5 minutes from ferry port. You cannot go wrong exploring the islands from here.

This cottage is exactly as advertised. We enjoyed the location and view of the sea. We did have a little difficulty getting heat the first night but with Catrionaā€™s instructions, it worked beautifully after it started up. We enjoyed having the washer, which enabled us to pack a little less and do a load of laundry half way through our trip. Kitchen was well stocked with all the items needed to make meals at home. We absolutely would recommend this beautiful place in ā€œThe Hopeā€!

May in St Margaret's Hope

Uniquely positioned the cottage was a tranquil place to stay. There is a nice roomy bedroom and an efficient shower. We did struggle with some electrical items, we couldn't seem to work the heating, they are obviously on a separate electric supply as just switching them on doesn't do anything until the follow day when the switch is then lit and some heat is coming out. But we didn't want the heat in the day and it never seemed to throw out any heat in the evening.The other problematical thing was the oven. We weren't looking to cook lavish meals, just some simple items we could pop in the oven. These required temperatures of 190 or 200 degrees. We gave up waiting after 40 minutes for the oven to get to the right temperature and settled on 175, opening the door to put in the food reduced the temperature back down to 125. It took about 3 hours from start to finish to cook a tray-based chicken meal that stated in would cook in an hour.Orkney is well worth a visit, perhaps stir fries would have been a better choice.

Our first trip to Orkney.

Our first time to Orkney and it won't be our last. After a hard day walking and sightseeing this is such a wonderful property to come back to. Its got everything you need, beautifully decorated and furnished. Its all clean and it all works. Its a lovely cosy place right next to the water and with great views. Thank you Catriona!

We really enjoyed Catriona's house.Beautiful location, despite a few cars parking in front of the house.The house is well-equipped and very pleasant.At the beginning of our stay, we had some difficulty adjusting the heating, but this problem was resolved thanks to Catriona's advice.Thank you, Catriona.

This was such a wonderful trip - and the cottage is gorgeous. The window over the bay in the living room was a highlight - better than TV! We had everything we needed, and the cottage was beyond our expectations. We hope to be able to return.

Beautiful setting, lovely cottage

If you want a quiet getaway in the Orkneys, we'd thoroughly recommend this lovely cottage. It's just by the water's edge and has a gorgeous view over the bay. On an evening it's far nicer to watch the sun go down across the water than to watch the TV! We saw a thunderstorm come in one day and were grateful for the metre-thick walls. The house is well equipped; the kitchen and bathroom both work well, and the bed is soft. The house is situated about 20 minutes south of Lerwick in St Margaret's Hope. The village itself is very quiet although there is a (justifiably) popular fish restaurant just 2 minutes down the road form the cottage -- though if you want to eat there, you'd be well advised to book in advance. All in all, a lovely hideaway. Can't recommend it enough.

An Art Lover,s Paradise

A perfect spot for location. A side window overlooking the sea, always changing. Excellent taste, beautiful and fun paintings. Very handy for the ferry and a good spot for travelling up to see Skara Brae and the Ring of Brodgar. Wonderful. Kirkwall is well worth a visit with the Cathedral and the excellent museum. Great property in a lovely location

The property is a good size for 2 or 3. It's well situated right on the waters edge with a lovely fish restaurant clise by, and it's in a great spot if you're a Northern Lights watcher. The photos on the website don't do it justice - we would definitely go back.
