Located forty minutes south of Perth, Rockingham is a holiday resort city of some 142,000 residents. In 1827 Captain James Stirling landed on Garden Island just off the coast, and two years later the Swan River Colony was founded. Nowadays, Garden Island is home to HMAS Stirling Naval Base, Australia's largest fleet base.
