Green Cottage: Waterfront family holiday paradise, private jetty and road access

Green Cottage is a gorgeous, original Patonga Cottage beautifully kitted out with all the comforts of home and everything you need for a relaxing family holiday. Cool and breezy in summer (with pedestal fans) and warm and cozy in winter (with child-safe wood burning stove and electric blankets). It is located right on the creek (with road access) and has its own private jetty.

Sit on the wide verandah and watch the pelicans on the jetty, enjoy a paddle up the creek into the pristine national park, hunt for soldier crabs on the sand by the creek, close your eyes and listen to the parrots in the trees, stroll down to the beautiful Patonga beach and float on your back through the river mouth, beach comb on the deserted beach, fish from the jetty, hike along the large number of trails in the area, dine at the popular Boathouse, play cricket in the reserve out front, read a book or play a boardgame, have a barbeque and watch the sun go down over the mangroves...

So many options - all of them relaxing!

Green Cottage facilities
The main cottage sleeps 5 in 2 bedrooms (1 with queen bed, other with bunk and trundle). It has a renovated bathroom (2014), well equipped modernised kitchen plus dining room and lounge furnished with great retro gems. The cottage is surrounded on 2 sides by a broad, well shaded verandah with couches, chairs, barbeque and outdoor dining table. Please note that the pizza oven visible in the property photographs is not available for guest use.

In addition there is a renovated (2011) sleep-out for 2 additional people (queen bed) plus an outside toilet and basic bathroom/laundry (with shower and bath).

The cottage is equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, Nespresso coffee machine, microwave, and smart TV. The cottage has broadband internet and WiFi making it suitable for remote working.

Green Cottage is a paradise both indoors and outdoors for children. It is stocked with children's toys, books and boardgames. The securely fenced garden has a tyre swing. To make the most of the beach location there are kayaks and life jackets (child and adult sizes) available plus boogie boards. Please note that the trampoline shown in the photos is no longer on site.

What you need to bring:
To make your holiday a great success please bring:
Clothes and toiletries including sunscreen and insect repellent
Food including Nespresso-compatible coffee pods (basics are provided - eg oils, sauces, glad wrap, foil, spices and herbs etc). Online delivery is available from both Woolworths and Coles.

* Please note that the jetty is not suitable for mooring boats

Relaxing family holiday

We loved our brief stay in this delightful cottage. We did have to share the jetty with the pelicans while we ate our breakfast, but they didn't seem to mind!

Perfect Place in Patonga.

We had a wonderful stay in Green Cottage. The house was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. The creek front location is peaceful and very handy for making use of the provided kayaks. We loved eating every meal out on the verandah enjoying the beautiful scenery. We are looking forward to our next stay in Green Cottage.

Dreamy Location

This was the fourth time we stayed her - two smaller families. It’s amazing every time. Such a beautiful location, cute old-school weatherboard house. The back of the house opens out onto a dreamy river and jetty setting. We’ll be back again!

The perfect spot for a quiet time away. The water is 50m from your door for fishing, swimming, kayak

Immaculately neat and clean with books, toys, smart TV, WiFi, well equipped kitchen with full size fridge. Kayaks and life jackets supplied, even a tyre swing in the tree! No air-conditioning though, but plenty of fans.

Tranquillity

Green Cottage met all of our expectations. Perfectly placed along the creek, excellent facilities and very comfortable. Excellent communication. Rebecca and family have done a wonderful job to ensure the cottage has retained its old school charm, which is what we loved most about our stay. Thank you Rebecca and family for letting us stay, we loved every minute of our stay and being able to make more family memories in Patonga.

Relaxing

A beautifully positioned cottage offering lovely views of the creek from the warm and sunny verandah. We loved our stay for the second time around. Would have loved to watch a little television though i have to admit. Love the renovations in the bathroom - so much better then before. Fire worked a treat and so good having electric blankets. the decor is cheerful and perfect for this lovely house.

Best holiday

Our second year at Green Cottage and it did not disappoint. Everything about the cottage was exactly as we all remembered. We love how Rebecca and Christian have maintained its original, retro look. Made our holiday with kids easy, comfortable and no stress. We spent many mornings, afternoons and evenings enjoying the couches out on the porch. The weather was perfect, we swam every day sometimes twice, kids fished off the jetty, the kayaks were used, and the life jackets were a fantastic way for the kids to find their confidence in the water. We loved our holiday, we are already planning our next visit. Thanks for allowing us to bank memories. Mel, Rick and our family.

Family friendly, nostalgic creekside accommodation, felt like home.

Green cottage gives you the feeling like maybe you’ve been there before, everything you can think of is provided - as if you were visiting your own holiday shack. There are plenty of miscellaneous items, condiments, oils etc. kitchen is well stocked with utensils, pots, plates etc. Dishwasher is a god send. Children’s games and books are a nice addition and the use of the kayaks is an amazing perk. We did have a little trouble with the key for the sleepout, but that was sorted quickly and the lovely property cleaner helped with that. We have a family holiday house further near the caravan park that we weren’t able to go to - and green cottage allowed us to experience Patonga like we did when younger. Beautiful visiting birds in the morning, and private Jetty is great. Recommend for a family.

Classic retro holiday

Green Cottage is a charming old-fashioned cottage right on the creek in Patonga, with views out over the jetty. A perfect spot for our family of 5 for kayaking, swimming, boardgames and lazing around reading on the verandah. The local pub is a short walk away and does great food, otherwise the kitchen at the house is well equipped.Having the kayaks and paddles supplied was amazing, although we brought our own extra kayak and life vests (there was only 1 adult one at the property). A great selection of books meant our own could be saved for another day. We were there during a heatwave, but the design of the verandah and the fans in all the rooms, plus the chance to jump in the creek, meant we were able to stay cool. Lots of rays, herons, cockatoos and kookaburras spotted. Highly recommended for a lazy, wholesome break.

Family fun

Green cottage was the perfect holiday stay for our family which consisted of 3 adults and 3 children under 8. Green cottage is well equipped for the whole family. We utilised everything on offer, beach, jetty, kayaks, books, games, outside areas and bbq. Highly recommend Green Cottage 💚.

Superb location and relaxed retro vibe. Main picture is back of the house - don’t let that put you off, the wrap around verandah on the river front is where you will want to be , it’s semi enclosed so it feels private and has gorgeous tranquil outlook over the water and sunset

Quiet Getaway

Magical spot

We loved this beautiful cottage set right on the creek. Lovely, relaxing afternoons spent on a picnic rug under the trees, watching the other half of the family kayak about. Kitchen is well equiped and bedrooms are comfortable. Hopefully we get to return one day. Thank you Rebecca for your hospitality :)

Green Cottage has everything you need in a fabulous location steps from Patonga Creek. The cottage is beautifully preserved and immaculately cleaned. We enjoyed our stay and would love to come back.

We are an Australian family of 4 who love outdoor adventure and relaxing on the water. Green Cottage, Patonga, has been the setting for many amazing family holidays. The yester-year pace of Patonga combined with the natural beauty of the area has ensured that our most memorable family experiences have been in Patonga.
In 2018 we switched regular weekends in our Patonga paradise for the expat life, living in the USA and now Switzerland. But our loss is your gain. We hope our gorgeous cottage and the charm of Patonga work their magic for you too, and that you come back again and again to enjoy this very special place.

Here are our favourite activities in and around Patonga:
■ Kayak up the creek at dawn and watch the stingrays beneath you and the Whistling Kites soar above you. If you time your trip with high tide you can make it more than 5kms up the creek
■ Walk along the reserve between the cottages and the creek all the way to the beach (via the caravan park) and float on your back through the mouth of the creek as it meets the sea
■ Walk along the Great North Walk to Pearl Beach for a visit to the cafe and beautiful arboretum
■ Fish from the jetty and, if you are lucky, enjoy your catch for dinner
■ Pack a picnic and enjoy your meal(s) on the jetty as the sun sets, or rises, or shines...
■ Explore along the edge of the creek, watching the soldier crabs scuttle as you approach
■ Relax on the verandah or on the L-shaped daybed and read a book, play a game or have a snooze...
You may also find the following information helpful for your visit:
■ Great North Walk trail and walking trail to Pearl Beach (4.2 kms / 1 hr 45 min one way – details in folder). In addition there are many other trails through the Brisbane Water National Park.
■ Umina Beach is the closest surf beach. The Surf Lifesaving Club, and patrolled section of the beach, is on Sydney Avenue. Adjacent to the SLSC is an excellent play park for children – it includes a skateboard zone, a biking zone, an exercise zone and extensive, well equipped play zones for both young and older children
■ Tennis courts and play ground at Patonga Caravan Park, Bay Street, Patonga (court bookings on (02) 4379 1287).

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

The land that Green Cottage is situated on was purchased in the 1940s by Alexander Emmans. Over the next few years he travelled each Friday night from Sydney to Patonga by train and boat and spent his weekends building his dream cottage. A copy of the original blueprint from 1949, showing ink modifications to the original design, is framed on the wall of the cottage along with photos of the cottage in its early years. Alexander diligently maintained and improved the cottage until his death in 2008. The precision of his work, his dedication and resourcefulness can be seen throughout - from the perfectly level floor boards, and generous verandah to the beautiful French doors and handmade cupboards. We purchased Green Cottage in 2010 from Alexander’s wife, Wilma. We have worked hard to preserve the special features of Green Cottage and furnish it in a style that suits the era of the house whilst aiming to create a wonderfully relaxing environment that has all you need for a great holiday.
