Sobre esta propriedade
Groups up to14 welcome, with firepit, pool, nature with spectacular views.
Be nurtured in nature, with room for family & friends in this 5 bedroom house. Fosterton House offers beautiful, comfortable accommodation & artistic charm which can take up to 14 people. Please note: Our base rate is for 10 people using 6 beds. Additional guests are charged a per night rate on top.
Sit out on the front on the wrap around verandah and watch the sunset or at the back to see the sun come up over the hill in the morning. From the verandah you can watch the kids in the pool or join your friends to relax there yourself. Watch the wallabies graze or the many birds flit around in the nearby bush and at night sit under the stars as you enjoy socialising around the fire pit.
The house is well set out and equipped with the kitchen having the things you need to make your stay easier, we have a large family, so have the kind of things we know are useful, eg: electric frypan, wok, rice cooker, a nice range of saucepans & microwave dishes, utensils, trays, acrylic plates, cups, wineglasses as well as crockery & real glasses, plus lots more. Our walk-in pantry means there is room to store food and lots of crockery & extras. A dishwasher, stove, oven, microwave, large fridge and BBQ outside makes preparing food for many easier. Stretching from the kitchen there is a large dining table with enough room to all sit around, as well as extra tables if more room is wanted. Double doors separate this area from the lounge room, so you can have a quieter area to sit & talk or watch TV. In here the fire box is a great gathering place in winter, heating the whole house and in summer the air conditioner cools you all down.
Roomy bathrooms are found at either end of the house with a separate toilet at one end & a spa bath, the other has a baby change table. There is a solar hot water system, with a booster switch in the pantry. A half hour will reheat the water on those overcast or wintery days, so there is always plenty to go round.
The 5 bedrooms are colourful, roomy and quite different in character. Three lead off the living area we use for dining: the rainforest room has a double bed, the queen room has a queen bed and the day bed, as well as doors out onto the verandah, while the bird room has a lovely old wooden double bedhead that adds to the charm. You'll find artwork throughout the house- originals by Bronwyn, Max or Trevor Weeks and prints form Bronwyn & Banksy. Off the lounge room there is a games room with a lounge (the sofa bed), a table and chairs for games & activities, books, DVDs, toys and activities for the kids with doors leading onto the verandah. A great place for the kids to come and go as they play outside or in the pool. Leading off this room is the kids room with single bunk beds and the cot, -there's a fold away cot too in case you want the little ones with you. This end of the house has the lovely king room- a king sized four poster bed, with decor & views across the valley to match.
Outside the gazebo provides shade and shelter for outdoor eating, with extra tables and chairs along the verandah so there are options. A cleared grass area around the house means you enjoy the bush but there is room for people to play- kick a ball or play tip! The fully fenced outdoor swimming pool has a spa built into it and the BBQ on the verandah allows extra oven or 'hotplate' space when feeding the mob. There are even laundry facilities, making it the ideal gathering place for larger groups, any time of year.
It is only a short walk down the driveway & across the road to more of our land, to the clear waters of the "Die Happy" creek. While 2 km away is the popular swimming & picnic area on the Williams River. From the bridge the river looks shallow- it is a natural ford, but it is actually deeper than you think- at least 5 foot in parts, making it ideal for the smaller & bigger ones. Of course the beautiful round river rocks are a great source of play for children and adults alike.
As we're less than 15 minutes drive from Dungog through rolling hills, which is a convenient access point to the Barrington Tops National Park, especially if coming from Newcastle, Central Coast or Sydney. In Dungog there are artworks on sale through Dungog by Design, Dungog Arts Society & Dungog Contemporary, as well as plenty of eateries, a variety of churches, an Information Centre, a well equipped supermarket, a movie theatre (historic mission style architecture & still running). Throughout the year this region provides a number of events including the Dungog festival with: music, the outdoor Long Table dinner, workshops and cutting edge films.
Set on 100 acres, walks on the property provide recreation, a variety of interesting flora and the sighting of native birds and animals. A perfect setting for relaxation, recreation and enjoying each others company surrounded by & connecting with stunning nature.
Needing more space? 2 cabins - Mountain View and Valley View- are also nestled on the property and can be booked through Vrbo as well.
Be aware: Dungog is a high rainfall area but whenever staying in the country and planning to have a fire it is important to check the local conditions. Search Search' NSW Rural Fire Service- Fire danger ratings and total fire bans' for current fire bans- we are region '3' on the map.

Sobre o anfitrião
Anfitrião: Bronwyn/Max Greive
Bronwyn & Max are both amazed with the beauty of nature and the resourcefulness of people. We met out the back of Bourke (country NSW) & been happy living in the city, but are pleased to be able to get back to the country. As you see we are colourful people who are both artists who love to create, Max in wood and Bronwyn in paints, textiles, & lots of other medium, selling their work locally in the Hunter. Some of their work can be found throughout the property as well as Bronwyn's in the local Dungog by Design. Max is also a labyrinth enthusiast & works as counsellor, while Bronwyn is studying & teaching in the art sector at the University of Newcastle. We enjoy and have spent a lot of our lives helping people (ourselves included) connect with community, family, partners, and nature, all while encouraging people to be creative and go deeper. So there are 4 labyrinths on the property- 1 marked out on the slope as you come up to the house, & the others spread around the property. Feel free to walk one or both of them. Take your time. We also run creative nature & creative spiritual workshops & retreats here & elsewhere .
Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade
This is a 30 year dream come true- we have wanted to have a country place where individuals, families and groups connect with people, nature, creativity and community. We like to gather our children and grandchildren, parents and wider family here and want others to experience that too. Finding a cedar clad place on 100 acres was amazing- there were good 'bones' in place to create a charming, welcoming and artistic feel, a place where there can be nurture of the land, relationships and the soul. Most of the property, while secondary growth, is natural bushland with various habitats; bush, dry sclerophyll and wet gullies, creek, grasslands, steep and more gentle hillsides; so we have cut some walks through for people to enjoy and connect with it themselves. While we and others have spotted over 30 different bird species we don't believe we have seen them all yet. As well as birds the wallabies are so wonderful, grazing most morning and evenings, often with their joeys and these are less skittish the longer we are there. Bronwyn's great grandmother was born around this area, so there are other ways it is a re-connection for us as well. Fosterton Retreat also inspires our creativity and we want to be able to encourage this in others while providing a place and opportunities for personal, relational, communal, environmental transformation & restoration. Fosterton Retreat gives us a chance to do all this.
O que faz essa propriedade ser única?
It's hard to go past the clean air, the great views, the wallabies grazing, the numerous native birds & the 100 acres these cabins sit in with different habitats, eg: a wet gully, a hilly grassland & magnificent views. BUT the buildings themselves also attracted us. We fell in love with these cabins as each are based on the traditional Australian settler cabin, with good-sized rooms, dado rails, verandahs to help keep it cool, & provide a place to enjoy the view or the breeze. Being clad in cedar (originally red cedar was common in this area) is a bonus. We are putting our own touch on this place, welcoming, practical touches- like places to put your bags in each room, as well as artistic touches, that make this even more unique- like themed rooms, carefully chosen artworks and colourful doona covers that add to the effect of the decor. As we work to establish more plants in and around the property, these are purposely chosen for their suitability for the area and to attract more wildlife, especially birds. Mostly we are putting in plants indigenous to this area, but there we have included a couple of others for their therapeutic and symbolic nature. This is not a sterile environment and will not look or feel like every other house you've been to (maybe like no other house you've been to) & we think that is great.
