Catalina is a single storey facility that fronts onto the beautiful Lake Macquarie foreshore near Toronto, just south of Newcastle, NSW. Watching the afternoon light twinkling on its rippling water is the perfect tonic to help you physically and mentally relax, to recover from life’s stresses and pressures and fortify you.
Surrounded by bush or parklands on three sides, it offers shaded waterfront walks to some nearby historical war-time sites and also shops within walking distance.
A café-stye dining room overlooks the BBQ entertaining area facing the lake, with the alternative of a covered all-weather courtyard if you prefer to dine alfresco.
The accommodation is simple, but spacious and comfortable, with most rooms having their own large ensuites. Rooms come in a range of occupation sizes, sleeping singles, doubles, and family oriented two-room suites.
Lake Macquarie is a magnificent aquatic playground. Enjoy sailing, kayaking, and fishing, relax on gorgeous beaches and explore national parks. Great for water sports and outdoor adventures. It is Australia’s largest coastal saltwater lake, twice as big as Sydney Harbour. You’ll be thrilled with the many things to do and see, from bushwalking to delicious lakeside dining and the artworks of a great Australian artist.
You’ll find plenty of heritage-listed villages and charming towns around the lake, including Morisset and Toronto on the western side, Warners Bay in the northeast, and Belmont and Swansea on the eastern side.
Fishing and boating are popular, with the lake teeming with bream, flathead and other species. Explore the waterway sailing or hire a kayak from Lake Mac Kayak and Bike Hire or JetBuzz Watersports, which offers thrilling rides in a jet boat. For more outdoor adventure and spectacular views, jump from a plane more than 4 km above the lake with Skydive Newcastle.
You can also visit Dobell House, where famous Australian painter William Dobell lived and worked. Popular events in the region include Lakefest and Rathmines Catalina Festival, a celebration of flying boats.
