Character cottage in heart of village with stunning estuary view and garden
Built in 1864, this welcoming, end-of-terrace Victorian cottage is situated in a idyllic, tranquil position in the popular Pembrokeshire village of St. Dogmaels. The cottage is ideally located in the heart of the village with magnificent, ever-changing views of the estuary from the bedrooms and garden. The property has been sympathetically renovated in a modern-eclectic style, creating a sense of comfort and character with many thoughtful details such as a well-stocked choice of books, board games, guides , maps, broadband access and a folder detailing local ‘must dos’ and other useful information. Curl up in front of the log wood-burner; enjoy the works of local artists throughout the cottage and make use of the well-equipped kitchen with it’s wealth of original features such as inglenooks, limewashed stone walls and a decorative open fire-place perfectly complementing bespoke, hand-painted oak kitchen units equipped with modern appliances and Fired Earth accessories. A separate cloak room, flooded with natural light, provides a useful storage area. Upstairs, there are two stunning bedrooms with spectacular estuary views and stripped wooden floorboards. There is an abundance of light and original features such an antique white cast-iron bed, a lime-washed feature wall, carefully chosen lighting and an original fireplace. Outside, the back garden offers spectacular view of the estuary whilst the grassy area at the front of the cottage is the perfect spot to enjoy an early morning cup of coffee. St. Dogmaels with it’s vibrant and friendly local community offers a wealth of attractions. There are several village pubs, a well-stocked shop and a weekly Farmer’s Market , the latter set between the ruins of St. Dogmaels Abbey and a working flour mill. The village sits within the stunning Pembrokeshire National Park and is the starting point of the Pembrokeshire Coatpath with it’s gorgeous secluded bays and scenery. The pretty market town of Cardigan is one mile away. Other local attractions include the Preseli mountains, Cenarth waterfalls, Cilgerran Castle, dolphin watching in Cardigan Bay and kayaking on the River Teifi.

Stay at St Dogmaels
The cottage is lovely, the view from the bedrooms is amazing. We enjoyed our stay there. It’s an amazing cottage for young people, however, we are two older ladies and we found the lane up and the stairs difficult. But that’s our problem not the cottage’s!!

This is a charming place to stay which we thoroughly enjoyed. The views of the estuary from the first floor were our favourite feature. The rear is essentially landscaped into the hill so also provides great views but could be hazardous in the wet. We visited in August so parking could be challenging but there was always somewhere within walking distance. I wouldn’t recommend for anyone with limited mobility but it was perfect for our family with kids of 9&13.

This is a lovely little cottage in an idyllic location. Sitting out on the terrace, eating breakfast, as the sun rose, was a truly special experience. The second bedroom has a bunk bed with a double bed as the bottom bed. Understandably for a cottage of its age, and the fact it's hewn out of the side of the hillside, there's a dehumidifier running and the bathroom had a lingering damp smell. This shouldn't put you off booking though: the pros definitely outweigh the cons!

The property was comfortable and well equipped with a nice view over the estuary from the bedroom. The only thing to note was that access is via a steep footpath which whilst not an issue for us it is worth noting for those with mobility issues. Overall a good base for exploring the area

A very short stay
We had booked for 7 days but left this property after one night as the furnishings and bed were damp and smelled of mould. We understood later that the property had not been used for two months and had neither been heated or ventilated during this time. Had this been done the property could have been a pleasant stay.An important omission in the property description is that access is via a steep path of some 40 meters and is therefore absoluely unsuitable for anyone that is any way incapacitated.

A simple and therefore beautiful Welsh cottage. We, a family with three teenage children, spent five nights in St. Dogmails. A somewhat negative review online and Joanna's comments about a few possible shortcomings or inconveniences (steep stairs and damp walls) did not deter us from looking forward to this holiday. It was really worth it. The steep stairs are indeed something to be aware of, and a dehumidifier is used for the damp wall... but we quickly forgot about that. The stairs lead to several small oases in the hillside garden with beautiful views. And when the rising sun shines into the bedroom over Cardigan Harbour early in the morning, you always wake up with a smile. For us, it was the ‘good morning cottage’ (but we also had beautiful weather all week). The flat itself tells so many details about the history and stories of this house. Nothing is staged. Joanna responded quickly and very kindly to minor problems and questions. The parking situation was not always easy, but the neighbours were open and understanding. We felt very comfortable. It was a wonderful holiday. Thank you.

Pleasant stay
My family and I had a lovely stay. The cottage is well equipped, comfortable and the bedding and towels were clean and fresh. Finding the property was ok as my wife had been on Google Maps before hand and had worked out it probably had access issues, in that you have to park in the street below and the property is accessed by a steep public path. Also, no instructions were received from VRBO for arrival arrangements and I had to email the owner. The address couldn't be found on my sat nav, but it turned out the owner had given me the wrong house number. So going on my wife's info I basically tried the house she thought it was and was successful. I initially parked up as per suggestion in the 'Welcome Book', but the next door neighbour asked me to move, saying it was her parking space (nothing appeared to be designated), so wanting to keep the peace I moved my car further down the road... not an issue. St Dogmaels is a great area and in close proximity to many picturesque beaches and places of interest. We had lovely meals in both The Ferry Inn and White Hart. The owner expresses the issues with the rear garden and I concur it is very steep but the views are spectacular. I would conclude due to the positioning of the cottage and the rear garden the property the rental cost is about right. I would gladly revisit.

Beautiful setting and lovely cottage
A very sweet cottage, with gorgeous views of the Estuary and Cardigan. The village in St Dogmaels is gorgeous, and handy for local beaches (the Ferry Inn with seats over the estuary and the local chippie are not to be missed!). The cottage is cosy, comfy and clean and the views from the garden are exceptional! As Jo says in her description, the garden isn't suitable for kids but it's incredible for the grown ups to enjoy! The cottage has everything you need for your stay, and Jo was a great host and communicator. Thanks for a great stay Jo, we'd love to return one day.

Perfect spot for us and a very helpful host
The property is just gorgeous, beautifully furnished and had everything we needed. Our host was exceptionally helpful. Checkin and out were easy. I wouldn’t recommend this spot for people with very young children or anyone unsteady on their feet. My ageing knees grumbled at the (very short) walk up from the car but not enough to put me off coming here again. There’s no dedicated parking spot but we managed to find one ok. The local chippy is amazing! And there’s a handy local shop and a Tesco in nearby Cardigan. Some great beaches to choose from nearby and lots of other things to explore.

Good base for visiting west wales and surrounds
Property was lovely, very homely, loved all the pics etc. The cottage was fully kitted out. The only downside which is explained is the garden with the drops but we had such beautiful weather didn't need to use it. Access and parking to property is quite difficult especially if elderly or disabled. Not much to do in St dogmaels, but beaches and towns within a short drive. Did like the local market on Tuesday morning.

A restorative and inspiring few days
It really was home from home, not a bland hotel room. Lots of small touches that made us feel instantly relaxed. such a great location for exploring a truly beautiful coastline. lots of arty shops and good coffee stops in Cardigan and Newport. it was warm and cosy, we could self-cater easily. So many walks just from the property itself. A really great week.

Beautiful cottage in St Dogmaels. The path up to the cottage is steep but it’s short and there is a handrail. The cottage has everything you need and there is a lovely front garden to sit and relax. Close to Cardigan, Pembrokeshire coastal path and lots of beaches.

Quiet cottage in a great location
My family had a wonderful stay at this cozy cottage. Beautiful view of the estuary right outside the front door and a lovely garden out the back where we enjoyed many a peaceful cup of coffee.
The cottage was quite accommodating to our family of five, with one of the bedrooms easily holding our three kids. We also appreciated the large library and collection of games. The kitchen was well stocked with all needed appliances.
The location was a perfect jumping off point for exploring the coast with a beach only a few miles away. St. Dogmaels is worth exploring as well. There is a beautiful Abbey that hosts a local farmers market on Tuesdays not far from the cottage and an old flour mill where they make the most amazing bread!
Joanna provided us with easy to follow check-in instructions, and directions to the cottage.
If my travels bring me back to Wales one day, I would not hesitate to book this property again.

Beautiful
Just left the cottage and loved it! No hesitation in recommending. Clean and pretty with heating and a log burner if you take some logs. Lovely kitchen with dishwasher and a peaceful garden with views.
Tips for future customers. 1st bedroom has a double bed. 2nd bedroom has an excellent double with generous single bunk bed overhead. No problem for teens.
Parking is more tricky and the satnav seemed to take us to the road above the cottage and not the road below. Both can be reached by a narrow public pathway but we found the lower more accessible.

Lovely cottage with character but one problem
This cottage was charming with a lovely kitchen diner and two comfy bedrooms. It has obviously been lovingly furnished. I loved the art work and comprehensive library and was impressed by the selection of children's toys and games. It has a wood burning stove and plenty of kitchen implements. However the main negative was the damp wall in the lounge. This improved during our stay with the use of the dehumidifier but I found the smell a big problem.

I'm a busy working parent who doesn't enjoy being on screens too much.. Why mention this? To explain why I'm sometimes slow to respond to requests... I do get there eventually though.. I hope that you will see from my reviews that I'm friendly and helpful - just not always online.
St. Dogmaels will always be 'home' to me - I grew up in the village and although moved away, come back regularly to visit my mum who still lives in the village. I hope you will find Brynhyfryd as relaxing and peaceful as I do...
