Sunny and north facing, the Loft has been fully renovated to a high standard with modern kitchen facilities, tiled bathrooms and all the comforts of home. Situated in the Opua village, The Loft is close to all Opua amenities including marina, Russell car ferry, General store, cycleway and numerous walking tracks including the Opua to Paihia coastal walk.

A magical Christmas

We had a lovely stay over Christmas in The Loft. Beautiful views, comfortable accommodation and a great location. Can’t have asked for anymore

The lovely loft

What a delightful holiday location. Every morning out kayaking for many kilometres up the inlet seeing large numbers of sacred kingfishers and other birdlife. The quality fit out made for a very comfortable stay in these splendid digs.

Great location. Check in was a little difficult due to some miscommunications, but once we were in all was fine. The kitchen and facilities were well laid out and easy to use.The place would have been even more inviting if the heating had been on for long enough to take more of the chill off the space.

Brilliant stay in Opua

Anita made our stay perfect. Provision pack, flowers and herbs were greatly appreciated. The apartment is very comfortable, the views lovely and we would reccomend it to anyone visiting the area.

Lovely stay

The Loft is everything it looks like - and more: beautifully furnished and designed, gorgeous outlook over the water and boats, and wonderful location - with great coffee, a large marina, and a lovely cafe all within a two minute walk. We will definitely be back!

Time for rest and recharge

We had a lovely stay at The Lodge over Christmas. It was perfect in every way. Such a lively outlook, convenient location and so well appointed. Highly recommend.

A Special Place On the Water

Our family of 3 had an amazing stay at this beautiful waterfront property. Comfy beds, incredible views and maybe the best hosts ever! Anita and Matthew went above and beyond to make sure we had the a memorable Bay of Islands experience. This is a truly special place. We can’t wait to return.

Simply stunning

The loft was exactly as described and seen in the photos. Anita was there to greet us and the apartment was thoroughly cleaned. She had kindly left us a few items to get us started and recommended the explorer for a wonderful day out in the Bay. Would certainly recommend to friends.

Modern amenities meets nautical charm

The loft in Opua is a stunner of a property.We (two couples) stayed three nights in February 2025 and could not have been more impressed. From the plentiful and friendly communication leading up to our stay to being absolutely wowed by the view when we turned the corner at the top of the stairs. The beds were comfortable, the wonderfully remodeled bathrooms spotless, and the kitchen and livings spaces well appointed, plentifully supplied, and beautifully decorated with a blend of maritime influences and comfortable modern minimalism. Anita Jane was super thoughtful and great to deal with. Absolutely loved this place and could not have chosen a better place to base ourselves for the Bay of Islands portion of our trip.

Gem in the Bay of Islands!

Anita and Matthew are outstanding hosts. Nothing was a problem for them and they gave us lots of good information about the local area, cafes, fishing etc. The apartment was immaculately clean and had everything you could possibly want, including a sharp knife and a variety of wine glasses. It was also very roomy and tastefully decorated. Being perched above the Marina meant there was always something to see and our boat was berthed immediately below us. The photographs simply can’t do this property justice - it is one of the best places we’ve stayed and we’ll be back next year. Thanks Matthew and Anita!

Best way to finish our holiday in New Zealand

Wow! What a view from the balcony! It was amazing to arrive in time to see the sun going down over the water. We were met by Jane who showed us around the property, recommended some trips for our short stay, places to eat and walks - all were excellent suggestions. The Loft was incredibly well kitted out - tea, coffee etc, a cold beer on arrival, bathroom lotions, games, books… The morning kayak trip was fitted into a busy itinerary & much enjoyed. Jane kept in regular contact and helped out when a medical visit was required. The most difficult thing about our stay was finding time to relax and enjoy the beautiful property whilst also seeing as much as we could of what the bay of islands has to offer. It was all wonderful!

Great location, great view, great rental

The view of the harbor from the 2nd story porch was very picturesque - the noise from the boats or the ferry never bothered us. There was a general store nearby for some supplies, but most shopping required a bigger store. The location was near enough to Paihia for restaurants when we didn't feel like cooking. The kitchen was well equipped and had enough stainless steel countertop to make workspace for the cutting boards, etc. The 2 under-counter fridges were sufficient for our needs. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were well situated and everything needed was there. The whole rental was very well layed out and furnished. The host, Anita, greeted us when we arrived and was very friendly and easy to communicate with. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a great place to relax.

Outstanding Opua Accommodation

Wonderful stay in the beautiful Bay of Islands. Anita was very helpful and easy to work with, and she was there to greet us when we arrived. The Loft is a beautiful space with all the amenities you could want, and very easy place from which to explore the Bay. Thanks Anita and Matthew for a fabulous family stay.

The Loft

Fabulous place to stay!! Had everything we were looking for and more. Anita Jane and Mathew provided little extras too that added to the experience, and were there at a drop of a hat to help with anything, fantastic hosts thank you. Great location close to everything you need including a berth for our boat right at the door. Amazing accomodation, clean, cosy and comfortable. Thanks for a wonderful holiday, we are already looking to book for next year.

Idyllic on the water

This property is absolutely excellent. Right on the water at Opua with lovely views. The apartment is very well appointed and tastefully decorated. We lived on the balcony which has great shade and sea breezes. So restful and lots to look at with the ferry comings and goings and the boaties and fisherpeople. Anita Jane and Matthew were brilliant to deal with. We will be back!

Long weekend away

Modern understated but high quality convenience with character. Fabulous position with interesting active harbour activity. We expected some noise but were surprised at how peaceful The Loft was being right next to the Opua Wharf and car ferry. Highly recommend a stay at this property.

Wild! Literally..

Lovely break and in superb surroundings. The weather was extremely intense, but the accomodation kept us warm and dry. Would stay again in a flash!

Great place - we will be back

This is a fantastic property over looking the water. Perfect for if you like to self cater for your holiday. Excellent kitchen, great decor. It had everything we needed. The hosts were also very helpful.

A perfect weekend!

When we arrived, Anita and Matthew thought of everything to get us started on our weekend! We were pleasantly surprised to see they left us snacks, drinks and a beautiful bouquet of flowers with a welcoming note. The apartment is awesome! The view is stunning, the beds are comfortable and the entire place is very modern! They graciously offered their kayaks and motor boat to use and explore Opua harbor, which we very much enjoyed! Thank you for a weekend to remember, Anita and Matthew!

We love the location, the weather, the friendly locals and the relaxed lifestyle. Walking the great outdoors and spending time on the water - sailing, fishing, kayaking and swimming make for a great lifestyle or breakaway.
Our love of cooking and food in general is inspired by the amazing range of local produce, from oysters and wine to the abundance of fruits, vegetables, honey and olive oils.
