Welcome to Mawhiti Cottage. We hope that you have a wonderful stay in our much loved home, so named because this is the perfect place to switch off, forget the world and just relax! Mawhiti is the Maori word for ‘escape’; the very essence of what our cottage offers: peace, tranquillity, and serenity. The sunsets are amazing, the soothing sound of the waves in the background, and the stunning views make it one of the most special places to stay in the area. It is wild and windy though, and sand gets in everywhere, but if you are ok with that, just sit back and enjoy the magic of the setting. If you choose to keep in touch with the modern world, we have fibre optic internet, which means that you can take your laptop to the table on the deck and work from home, enjoying the views and sea air.

Mawhiti Cottage is very close to the Northern Wairoa Golf Club, where you can enjoy either a 9 or 18 hole round of golf for a very reasonable green fee, and golf carts are also available to hire.

A few important things to note before booking:

*The price per night is for two people, which is our preferred number of guests.

*You will need to supply all of your own linen. The beds have pillows and duvets.

* Our sewerage system utilises worms and microorganisms to process organic matter and pathogens, resulting in cleaner, safer water for natural, biological disposal- important when we are so close to the beach! Because of our eco-friendly sewerage system, guests are required to only use eco friendly personal products at the cottage.

*Please note that access to the cottage is down a short grassy slope, which can be slippery when wet. Those with mobility issues may find this a challenge.

* Currently, there are still some building materials on the cottage grounds. These should not interfere with your enjoyment of the property.

* Mawhiti Cottage is strictly no smoking

* Mawhiti Cottage is unable to accommodate pets.
