The old motor lodge re-invented! We recently took two hotel rooms and combined into one nice kitchenette suite. All new bathrooms, kitchens, doors, windows, lock system and furniture. Still has the old radiators and wall mounted AC units that we just couldn't find a way around, but they work great! An excellent base camp to enjoy the Black Hills and Badlands. Owners are avid hikers and mountain bikers who have lived in the area their entire lives. Happy to help get you pointed in the right direction.

The Sojourn Vacation Rentals and Flats offers modern, fully furnished flats in Rapid City, SD. Rooms include a kitchen with a full refrigerator, microwave, cooktop and dishwasher. They also include a living space and private bedroom. There is a patio available for guest’s relaxation and enjoyment.

The Sojourn is conveniently located for travelers looking to visit Mt. Rushmore, the Black Hills, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Sturgis, and more. This property is nonsmoking and no pets.

The kitchenettes are perfect for the vacationer or longer term out of town employee who needs some local housing. Located on Mt. Rushmore Road. 1.5 miles to downtown Rapid City, 26 miles to Mt. Rushmore. Local hiking and biking trail heads as close as .5 miles from property. Great selection of restaurants and stores in walking distance. .75 miles from Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Extra notes:

We use the KeyCafe automated check in system so you can arrive any time after 3pm.  The booking code and instructions will be sent via txt and email on the day of arrival.  Of course, we are happy to assist!  If we aren't on the property when you arrive, we are nearby.

Great visit

This is our second stay, and once again it did disappoint. Clean, easy check in, easy check out. Just an overall great experience. We travel to Rapid City often to visit family. This place is a great location, close enough and convient but so easy to get to.

Good location

The Sojourn was okay for what we needed - a place to sleep and rest after our adventures in the surrounding areas. The pics make it look nicer than it was. It’s not a motel but feels like and is laid out like one. I did appreciate how close it was to the attractions we wanted to go to, and is on a main street. The check in and out process was very easy.

Convenient location

The property was easy to get to, instructions for check-in & checkout were detailed. The set up was great, however the furnishings could use updating, they are well used & not the sturdiest. But our unit was very clean.

South Dakota Fall Vacation

We came to South Dakota for an off season, low budget get-away. Sojourn wound up being a great choice. It’s right in Rapid City and a short walk to restaurants and a bakery. Safeway is right down the road. The bed was comfortable, the unit was clean, the water got hot fast, and everything in the kitchen worked. These units offer a lot of value for the money.

Rapid City

The unit did not look like the pictures and we were disappointed. Uncomfortable furniture, mismatched dishes and silverware, had to ask for cooking pots - we cook our meals in - no air conditioning unit in the bedroom area although there was a fan, very dark and cave like. We ended up leaving a day early. We both were lightheaded and dizzy after being in the room for some time. Would not recommend staying here.

Nice Flat

We booked the Sojourns Flat #113 for a vacation in the SD Black Hills area. It is conveniently located right on the main road that leads you to Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse, & the Needles Hwy, which were all sites we really enjoyed visiting. The flat itself was pretty much as pictured in the VRBO listing & was clean (minus a few pesky gnat flies in the kitchen & bathroom areas) when we arrived. The bed was comfortable, although the pillows were small & too soft for us- I ended up going to Target & bought a couple pillows to make up for the ones in the flat. Having a full kitchen was nice, as we ate breakfast in the flat every morning & prepared picnic lunches to take with us every day. The kitchen was lacking a few basic needs- not even a full set of measuring spoons, no salt, or pepper (we had to buy some at Target), & I had to run the dishwasher every day so that we would have clean dishes for the next day (very few dishes). And the size of the frying pan was meant for one-person cooking, not meals for 2 or more people. Other than that, this flat met our needs while we were there. It was also really convenient having laundry facilities on the property, which were super clean & very affordable ($2.00 per wash load, $1.50 per dry load & clothes dried in one cycle). If I'm in the area again, I would definitely consider staying in one of the Sojourns units again.

I was a little disappointed in this VRBO pictures made it look better than it was. The place was clean for most part but it just didn’t feel clean. The top of the fridge had dirt all over it after a closer inspection I first thought it was animal poop but I think it was dirt out of the A/C filter that hadn’t been cleaned in forever. The fan that is used for bedroom I took outside and knocked as much dust off as I could. Carpet had a lot of stains on it. When you walked in first thing you saw was a couch that is broken down cushions on it that gives a bad appearance. It needs to go and just put a couple chairs would give a better feel. My wife would not sit on it and I did one time and got up itching and took a shower. Carpet needs to go and be replaced with LVP to give better appearance. You can put lipstick on a pig and it’s still a pig. Positives was bathroom being clean , great water pressure, bed was comfortable, new appliances only used frig. When we walked in I had to talk my wife into staying to give it a chance she saw pictures online before I rented as well and she was more so disappointed. I took pictures of top of fridge and cleaned it some when she took a shower, if she had seen that we would found motel in rapid city somewhere. If you can overlook some stuff this is place for you. Again it seemed to be clean from every other aspect but those mentioned. Just trying to give honest evaluation
