The management company sent a new cleaning crew that did a horrible job. This crew will never be back. To the management company’s credit- which the guest neglected to mention- they sent a new cleaner to wash the floors right when the guest called about it. We never had this problem before. The pool heater is under warranty and service contractor came as soon as they could. Again, this was an unusual circumstance that has never happened before. We also never had a musty smell before in the lower level. Not sure what that’s about. It’s not part of the living area and behind the garage.

Wish I had never rented to this guest. He will not take responsibility for the damage he caused. Since being in the rental business from 2005, I have only twice submitted a claim against a guest. This one being #2. My Cleaning person has documented the damage with photos. The guest did admit to seeing the damage to the tile but did not report it in. Instead he said that he put the chipped tile on the counter during his stay. When he checked out, he carefully placed it back on the step hoping no one would notice. But my cleaner did notice! Most likely this guest damaged it dragging his suitcases up and down the stairs. Yes.. he did have a couple of issues which I immediately took care of. Right after his call on Sunday- after checking in on Saturday-I sent a cleaner to do the floors again for his satisfaction. I sent my pool man out to check on the pool heat- he reported that it had reached the set temp of 82 degrees. We have a software system that monitors the pool heater for guests’ comfort. I have documented proof that the pool was at its set temp. After I took care of those concerns, the guest thanked me and I never heard from him again. Until... I held a portion of his security deposit for the damage. He did threaten me that he would open a case if I did not return his deposit. It’s unfortunate when a guest feels that they can bully you. We have opened our home to our guests so that they can enjoy the wonderful amenities and make lasting family memories as we have with our own family. During their departure, I was not on the island so I did not “watched” them as they claim. It might have been my cleaners who show up a little after departure time to start the cleaning process as new guests are scheduled to check in. I have never dealt with such an unreasonable and irresponsible guest before. To future guests, I take my guests’ comfort and satisfaction very seriously. This is an extremely rare situation.

Patty, I am so glad that you had a wonderful vacation at our house. We run the pool heater 7 am- 7 pm. If it’s an cold morning, it may take a little bit of time for the pool heater to bring the temp up. That is the case with all pool heaters on the island. In your case, you were wanting to swim at night and so we adjusted the time for you. It’s important to note, the pool heater runs everyday during the cooler months. I don’t have very many guests that do a late night swim… but as you noted, we are always happy to help out and we adjusted it for you.
