The Closest Home to The Hollywood Sign / HSR25-001176

This is the closest house to the HOLLYWOOD sign, adjacent to the 4000 acres of Griffith Park. Once owned by the 60's band The Association ("Cherish", "Windy", "Never My Love"), this house has a long Rock n Roll history. David Crosby was introduced to Graham Nash by Mama Cass, who lived next door, at a party in this house. If you want everything new and shiny like The Four Seasons, you should book a room at The Four Seasons. This is a fun, rustic Rock 'n Roll Landmark house built in 1963, photographed by Linda McCartney in 1967 and featured in her book, "The Sixties".

We are artist/filmmakers based in Western Mass, but we maintain a live/work studio called UndertheSign Studios in our Hollywood home and one or both of us may be working in LA during your visit. Our studio is separate from the house, so you will have total privacy there. We give you complete privacy, but welcome you to contact us anytime for anything and welcome you to visit with us as well.

Host was very responsive and friendly. Location offers an unique experience available through no other VRBO. We loved being so close to the Hollywood sign and getting to stay in a property with such a rich history. Beds were comfortable and many amenities offered.

Our stay was absolutely fantastic the host is awesome. We’re close to a lot of things. The views were absolutely incredible. Being below the Hollywood sign was amazing. If you want a place to stay. This one is absolute the one. Close to universal studios not far from the beach. I would stay here again. Thank you very much.

My family of 5 stayed at the Hollywood Sign Chalet June 20-24. When I booked, it was not only because it looked aesthetically unique but of course for the experience of being in the closest house to the Hollywood sign and man it didn’t disappoint! The last morning my husband & I took the 1.5 mile path past the house and got to walk behind the sign, so cool! Pros: Super friendly host, awesome sound system to play music as loud as we wanted, large space for our family to spread out, jacuzzi prepped by the host everyday for us to use in the evening, & views that can’t be beat!Cons: Parking was tricky-driveway was too steep to get our rented mini van into and regardless the host was parked there our entire stay. Which brings me to the fact the host lives onsite (the garage connected to the house has been turned into a living space) which was semi awkward. We did have an issue with ants (as another review had mentioned) and had to keep everything sweet in the fridge- will say it is to be expected when the house is built into a sandy hill and there was bug spray provided in the kitchen. Not very private as there are nonstop tourists from first thing in am into the evening walking by on the path to the sign. Last, I’m sure the chalet was awesome in its prime, but has seen a lot of wear and tear-again not a problem for us as we were essentially sight seeing all day everyday and basically only sleeping there. Overall we enjoyed our stay & Jeff was a great host!

If you’re looking to spend time in one of the coolest musically historical homes, look no further! The property was quirky, rustic, with a welcoming layout and a sprawling, majestic vista. Also, I never thought I’d want the property owner to be on the premises while staying at a VRBO but Jeff changed my mind. His presence ended up being a huge bonus! When we arrived he was playing Cherish by the Association on the incredible sound system we had access to. He was completely respectful of our privacy but also offered to show me and my kids his recording studio, and he also got the jacuzzi ready for us every day! He sort of embodied the spirit of 60s musicians coming together for creative camaraderie. Being so close to the Hollywood sign was of course the initial draw and an incredible experience that became a sort of retroactively added bucket list item I got to check off. Thank you so much, Jeff, for being such an incredible host and sharing your gem of a property with us!

Fabulous home in Hollywood Hills

We loved staying in this one-of-a-kind home in the Hollywood Hills. There was ample room for five of us - two parents and our three young adult sons - and we especially enjoyed the deck with its sprawling LA views, and general comfort of the entire home. We would love to stay here again!

A get away….

Location is great if you want to escape the LA hustle. Great trails for outdoor activities! We had to be at UCLA for events and it was a tough commute. The home needs an upgrade; but as-is condition worked for a short weekend. The Owner was professional and very responsive.

This is a gem of a home!

We absolutely loved the home and Jeff+Diana’s warm hospitality. This was the perfect spot with plenty of room to host our family of 4 teens and enjoy the views of the city. Everything we needed was at the home ;)

Great house with amazing history!

We loved staying at this house!! The host was so nice and shared the history of the house with us, which was awesome! We were there for Universal Studios and it was an easy 10 minute drive from the house. There is a problem with some ants due to being on the hill but it was manageable. We will definitely book here again!

Really Cool Place

We loved our stay at the chalet. It is a really cool house in an awesome spot underneath the Hollywood sign. My family loved our time there. Our two boys, ages 10 and 7, loved the loft area on the second floor and the hot tub outside. It’s a great place to explore with the Mulholland trail right nearby. If you like running/walking the trail is fantastic. Iconic views of the Hollywood sign and LA skyline. It’s also a really short drive to Universal Studios. If you are looking for something different than just a hotel room, I highly recommend this awesome chalet. Jeff is really great and easy to communicate with. It is truly an iconic Los Angeles experience, easy 5 stars!

Wonderful LA Stay

Jeff was awesome and super communicative during our stay! A beautiful home with an even better view. While the drive up to the house is very curvy, you can't beat the location. It was easy to get around! The house has a phenomenal sound system that made waking up to music very nice. While we didnt spend a whole lot of time in the house, when we did, it was cozy and had everything we needed + more. Overall we would love to stay again!

Hollywood A frame

Owner was very responsive to the couple of items we had questions about. Would have liked a downstairs shower but as we were all family, it worked out. Beautiful view of town and exciting to be so close to the Hollywood sign. A little difficult to find as our GPS sent us to the wrong side of the mountain.

Jeff Kleiser has been pushing the extremes of visual effects since 1978, when he co-founded Digital Effects in NYC, worked at Omnibus Computer Graphics and co-founded Kleiser-Walczak, and contributed to TRON, Flight of the Navigator, Stargate, Judge Dredd, Clear and Present Danger, the X-Men trilogy, Fantastic Four, and numerous theme park projects including The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Universal Studios. In addition, he co-directed Monsters of Grace with partner Diana Walczak, which was a 74 minute stereoscopic avante garde opera designed by Robert Wilson and composed by Philip Glass.
Kleiser’s visual effects work on Ra.One, Bollywood’s biggest movies to date earned the prestigious National Award for Best Special Effects, which Is India’s equivalent of the Oscar. A member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Kleiser also serves on the board of the Visual Effects Society and is a founding member of the board of the Williamstown Film Festival.
Diana Walczak and Jeff Kleiser developed the first computer-generated humans, the first digital stunt doubles for Judge Dredd w/ Sylvester Stallone, the first face replacements in a movie for The One w/ Jet Li. Visual effects credits also include Stargate, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Surrogates and Ra.One. They also animated the Columbia Pictures film logo.
Diana sculpted the iconic Michael Jackson HIStory Statue which became the basis for the cover of his 1995 HIStory album and an international marketing campaign for the album and the HIStory World Tour.
Diana has written, shot, and directed live-action short documentary films covering 15 projects that improve people’s lives in Kenya, Haiti, Dominican Republic, and Morocco.
