Ca' di Cambret. An unusual name. Decidedly. To know what we are talking about when we mention cambrets, it is necessary to understand, but above all admire, the place where you are. Someraro, Smarè, for the locals, is a small village on the heights of Stresa, the pearl of Lake Maggiore, in Upper Piedmont. Someraro was once a village full of meadows and vegetable gardens, overlooking one of the most enchanting panoramas in the world. The children played in the square, there were no cars in the narrow streets and people went to school on foot in nearby Campino. There was a grocery store, a few bars and taverns and you only went down to Stresa for large errands. Until the late 1950s, the economic boom here was theory. There was a television set all over the country and it was owned by a lady from Milan, from the city, obviously, to which we all went after dinner. In addition to the vegetable gardens, there were a few cows and goats. It was necessary to have a place to keep milk and cheese cool. For this reason, in the area where this reborn holiday home stands today, there were once numerous cambrets, small brick houses inside which, in a small canal, the fresh water of the streams flowed continuously, which helped to keep the the temperature for storing the products. Ca' di Cambret borrows its name from these typical buildings and does so to revive the Smarè of those years with a completely rediscovered rhythm.
