- Bears are dangerous and should not be approached if seen - this cabin is in a wooded area, and bears may approach the property if given an opportunity. Please exercise caution and good judgement and do not leave unsecured food, etc outdoors!
- We do not offer late check out or early check in
- We provide a start of toilet paper and paper towels. You may need to buy more.
- Shampoos, toiletries, condiments, zip locks, charcoal and firewood are not provided
- There is a security camera on the front porch that records the front door/walkway

Please note: you are renting a house and there is no on site maintenance or staff.

We do not offer refunds for weather/natural disasters/power outages/acts of god/other things that are beyond our control - we recommend purchasing travel insurance.

While snow is rare in the Smokies, it is possible that you may need 4WD in the winter.

Decent

Place to stay when in town. Amenities were decent. Had to clean dishes before use. Cabin is showing age and could use things fixed such as bathroom ceilings, better and brighter lighting, replaced cookware, and in order decor. Informed host about some issues so hopefully they make some corrections.

Ober Getaway

Prime location for Ober Gatlinburg. We were able to walk a very short distance to the bus pick up location to skip the Aerial Tram that has a long wait to board. Everything was as advertised. Kids loved the pool table and hot tub! Location was also an easy ride to Dollywood! Owners checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. Great family getaway!

Family Trip

We had the best time in this cozy cabin! Although we didn’t stay in it much, the location was convenient to both Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge!! It was quiet and cozy!

Family Gathering

This house was a perfect location for our small family gathering. While there were a few details overlooked (light bulbs out or missing, TV remote batteries missing, minor repairs, etc.) and some detail cleaning needed (vents need cleaning) the size and location was perfect for our family. If you are wanting a remote location near Gatlinburg and/or Pigeon Forge, I would recommend the Mountain Chalet.

Great getaway for the family.

Great place to stay with the family! Minutes from Ober Mountain and just off the main road that leads directly into Gatlinburg’s Parkway strip. The layout of the house is a bit odd, the bathroom on the main level is in the bedroom on the main level. My only complaint is there wasn’t really a place for our dogs to use the bathroom. There are weeds along the road, the dogs struggled quite a bit, but we made it work. The weeds have lots of what we call “stickers” that got stuck in our long haired dogs fur, so be cautious where you’re walking them. Just a heads up…Lock your vehicles before going inside and make sure there are absolutely no food or drinks left in your car! A bear opened both our front doors and helped itself to some candy we accidentally left in the truck. Be vigilant, we saw bears everyday from the porch, they have a trail right next to the chalet. The hosts were gracious enough to send us a picture for insurance purposes as well. All in all it was a very good experience and we will definitely consider staying again.

Our experience

Back deck upstairs is not safe, rotted wood on door frame, grill needs to be fully replaced with a brand new one, bottom completely out, nasty and filthy, hot tub stunk and I would not even allow a dog to get in…kitchen is very small….took two days to get Wi-Fi code….needed more kitchen trash bags

Great family spot

We really enjoyed this property! The game room and hot tub were a hit with the kids and the location was terrific for plans to hike and explore Gatlinburg. A very comfortable spot! The check-in process was a breeze and the hosts were easy to be in touch with.

Family Christmas

Our family, with adult children and grandchildren, enjoyed our stay at the mountain chalet. The location is TOP NOTCH! Just a small walk to shuttle to Ober mountain. The layout was a little different but there was room for everyone. The pool table and hot tub was a favorite. Kitchen was small but workable. Oven temperature setting was not consistent and pans were tough to keep clean due to over use. Overall we cooked meals each day for 8 people and always made do! The host was very helpful and responsive. We highly recommend this home!

The perfect property for a family vacation

This property is perfect for a family. It's large and roomy, but has several nice communal areas for everyone to reconnect, such as a great game room with pool table and video game console. The location is nice as well. It's only minutes from downtown Gatlinburg, but secluded in a quiet area surrounded by trees.

On top of the mountains

Great stay. Just a 5 minute drive down the mountain to the shopping strip in Gatlinburg. The cabin is located at the top of the mountain so it is a bit of a drive up. Host was very responsive and helpful.

So many memories!!!

We rented this chalet for our family (2 adults + 2 kids + 1 small dog) and our friends family (also 2 adults + 2 kids). There was plenty of room for all of us! We had hours of entertainment playing pool and video game challenges! We saw bears - they will walk right up to your car so definitely empty your car & keep them locked. There's not much lawn or area to take the dog out, but he was fine and after seeing bears so close, we were okay staying near the door! The community pool was very close (the hill was a bit too steep for us to walk - we did it once, then drove the other times). The TV/remote situation was pretty non-functional - couldn't find some remotes and some only partially worked, but we didn't really go there to watch TV so it wasn't a big deal and the Roku app worked on my phone to watch a couple movies. The owners graciously provided us with a dish sponge, laundry pod, dishwasher detergent, at least 1 full roll of TP per bathroom. I would suggest definitely packing more TP, hand soap for the bathrooms, as well as shampoo/body wash, etc. - Oh and garbage bags. There's one little store that's not far that has the essentials. Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge are not far and the drive has great views! Thanks so much for the great stay!!!

Good stay. Good location

Enjoyed our stay. Only negative thing was all the light fixtures had low wattage bulbs. The dining room was very dark. As was the rec room downstairs. All pans and skillets were badly scratched so everything stuck and was hard to clean off. Plenty of beds and hot water. Otherwise a pleasant stay.

Great location

Owners were very responsive. Home is a bit tired but Wi-Fi worked great and the pool table, video game and hot tub were awesome. Bigger than it looks with 4 BRs and game room. If used to high end luxury this may not be for you but if you need a place to homebase and hit the mountains and Gatlinburg, this works well.

Love this property!

Sugar Bear Chalet was great! Immaculate home that met our needs and more. Owners are very communicative abd hospitable. Game room, covered hot tub, and bedrooms on three floors gives everyone the space they need. Just about 5 minutes from downtown Gatlinburg. Will stay here again! Thank you Taylor and Jeff!

2023 Guys Week

Very happy with the accommodations, great layout and location. We skied every day and cooked in every night. The shuttle to the village was conveniently located feet from the front door which gets you to the village in 5 minutes. Even took a shuttle to Beaver Creek one day which was super easy. Great place, highly recommended it!

Great place to stay and ski!

Lovely house really close to ober mountain. Was perfect for our family. Bedrooms were nice and good size. Basement was a blast for the kids, and everyone enjoyed the hot tub after a day on the slopes. Thanks again!

close to Ober

We walked to the Ober overflow parking and took the bus up and walked back to our cabin. This cabin is perfect for two families, we had plenty of room. The only complaint was I had to buy my own dishtowels for the kitchen, but we enjoyed our time here and would return.
