Great Birthday Getaway

Amazingly nice property for a weekend getaway for a birthday with friends. The house, pool and dock are all incredible and the owner was very helpful.

Awesome stay at an Awesome home!

Had a reunion of friends at the home and it was a fantastic setting for the twelve of us. The kitchen was much larger than what I had expected from the photos with plenty of room for everyone to gather and enjoy a meal. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the living room was a great set-up for all of us to watch the Olympic gold medal basketball game. The pool and pool house were next level. We also enjoyed fishing off the dock and landed a good sized striped bass. Would definitely recommend this home based on its location, condition, amenities and the responsiveness of the owner and his staff.

Issues from the start - Would not recommend!

I booked Winding Waters for my husband’s birthday weekend, hoping for a special and relaxing 4-day getaway, but it turned into an absolute disaster. I wish I could post the photos but Vrbo doesn’t allow pics. I complained to Vrbo. Communication with the property manager, Caitlin, was unacceptable. 2 weeks prior to the stay, she didn’t respond until Vrbo had to step in, and I almost cancelled the reservation. Caitlin eventually gave me her cell number, but even then, I had to reach out multiple times, just 2 days before the stay, because she hadn’t sent the entry code or WiFi info. Finally heard from her after Vrbo’s intervention. When we arrived, things quickly deteriorated. The entry code didn’t work, so she gave us her personal code. Terrible odor, and many windows were painted shut. Others were broken or wouldn’t close properly due to wood rot, allowing bugs to enter. Dishwasher had dirty dishes, and guest WiFi didn’t work. Worse still, the listing promised the "entire estate," yet another couple was staying on-site—something that was never disclosed. My husband sent Caitlin photos of the issues. My husband fixed the dishwasher. Other issues…CO2 and smoke detectors constantly went off, pool and hot tub were unusable and heating didn’t work —the hot tub had broken bricks, and the pool pumps didn’t work. Grill dirty and cobwebs, and broken walkway lamps, wasp nest inside gas fire pit, and mice inside house…fireplaces and coffee makers didn’t work. Trash cans full garbage.

Fantastic Thanksgiving Weekend with Family

We had a wonderful stay at Winding Waters for our Thanksgiving weekend. The home offers spectacular views of the Piankatank River, and immaculately manicured grounds. The house was spotless and perfect for hosting family and friends. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen was spacious and comfortable and well stocked for cooking, and we really enjoyed stargazing at night in the hot tub. We had trouble using the television so the guys could watch football and the owner called us right away to help us. We loved everything about our stay and we will have to come back in the summer!

We are originally from the Philadelphia Area. We purchased this home during COVID and spent most of the year there educating our kids over ZOOM. This served as a safe and relaxing haven for us. As our kids have gotten older and are more active in sports in the Philly area, regrettably we are not able to spend as much time here. As such we started renting the property last summer so that others could enjoy as well.

Located on the Piankatank River, which literally translates to “Winding Waterways,” this Estate offers a romantic setting with a waterfront view of Virginia’s Chesapeake Bay. Winding Waters Estate is located on 13 acres. It will transport you to relaxation with its magnificent Water views and soothing natural wildlife sounds. This Estate is the perfect backdrop for friends and family to vacation together.

Like most homes in the area of the middle peninsula, Winding Waters started as a part of a large family farm on what has been historically the highest point in Matthews County, Virginia. Around the turn of the century, the last member of the Cobb farming family saw that the end was near and began breaking up the farm for various uses, with Agriculture, fishing/crabbing, and homes on the river.
