We feel scammed
When we booked this there were no pictures of the outside because it is pretty awful. It is definitely intentional. We weren't impressed when we pulled up. After going inside we discovered that it is a duplex. Not just one property to ourselves. It overwhelmingly it stank of stale cigarettes. It was as gross on the inside as it was on the outside.
We put in our code and enter to find that there was a half-naked man smoking a cigarette in the living room. So that was great! We immediately left and called the manager of the property. He assured us that it was an accident, and everything would be fixed if we came back later. We didn't want to stay in a place where some random person had been walking around half naked. The manager reluctantly said the cleaners would come that night. We work in wildland fire, 13 to 20 hour shifts and didn't really want to wait around while exhausted and filthy.
When our boss was updated on the situation, he told us the property was unsuitable since we had government property with us that needed to be secure. On top of that our female co-worker felt she would not be safe there. If we had originally checked in when we wanted to all of our luggage and equipment would have been alone with this stranger.
We ended up finding places at the barracks and with other co-workers. It was just an awful situation, so we wanted a refund. The property manager was completely unhelpful and so was VRBO. We still have not been refunded. Don't stay here.
