  • Nice Place for a Getaway

"We were three families with teenage boys looking to get away from the City for a couple of days after Christmas. The cottage is very clean, has many beautiful decks (though we didn't use them), and is well kept. The kitchen was well-equipped and everything was quite new and clean. We had no issues with the internet, even with all the boys. The layout is kind of like a tree fort with spiral staircases and a ladder to top floor bathroom, so not recommended for toddlers or anyone with limited mobility."

  • Perfect Weekend!

"The River House is absolutely beautiful! The property was large, and covered in a thick layer of snow. The interior of both the cottage and bunkie were clean, comfortable, and very tastefully decorated. It was a short drive in to town for anything we needed, and there were beautiful spaces to explore nearby on a walk. Norbert was an exceptional host, and responded to all our questions, comments and needs in both a prompt and friendly manner. I would definitely return, especially to check out what the River House has to offer in the summer."

  • Great for privacy

"This was a lovely spot to stay for a fall getaway, it was very quiet and private, as the other building on the property was vacant. It was super for canoeing, and the bike trail provided an easy ride into Fenelon Falls. We saw a painted turtle while out on the canoe, and a heron while on the bike trail. Fantastic! The outdoor space was generous, and lots to do, but bring a ball if you want to make use of the soccer nets, and the trampoline was a real bonus. The town is small, but has an interesting assortment of businesses, including a grocery store, bargains store, and antiques and collectibles. The ice cream parlour didn't seem to be open for the fall weekday business, but we were able to purchase Kawartha ice cream in tubs at the grocery store. It has an ok equipped kitchen, but was lacking in some basics like oven mitts, flat trays for heating in the oven, and utensils to make omelette making easy. And it would have been nice to have wine glasses for enjoying our wine. The coffee cups and glasses were also on the small side. And there is no salt and pepper provided, so be sure to bring your own. However, it is new construction, and I expect that as time goes by these things will get sorted out, and overall are minor inconveniences. Overall we had a great time, and I would definitely recommend this property, the owner answered emails promptly, and it is obvious that care has been taken of this property."

  • Exceptional design, affordable luxury and a secluded location with excellent amenities

"We just enjoyed 2 amazing nights at The Bear Stand. Six of us stayed very comfortably and luxuriated in the Japanese soaking bath, Finnish sauna and outdoor hot tub. We also enjoyed hiking the private trails on the property as well as screening movies on the large TV. Words and photos cannot describe how incredible this cottage is.....we are already planning our next trip back!"
