  • Exquisite home

"When my mother, our 12-year old niece, our son, his wife, my husband, our dog, and I arrived to move into David’s home for 4 days around New Year’s Eve, we were overwhelmed by it. The feel of the home is open, spacious, and elegant. However, most importantly, it feels like a home and not a vacation rental. Having it all on one level also made it easier for my 88-year old mother. It is the best-equipped house I have ever rented--with all of the necessities needed for living there (including a cheese fondue caquelon that David kindly acquired especially for our use) and top-of-the-line appliances. Everything in the home was in exquisite condition. And unlike many vacation rentals that may have everything you need, there is no clutter. The cupboards in the bedrooms are empty and, therefore, available to the renters. Since we were visiting in winter, we were not able to take advantage of the outdoor facilities, but did use the Weber grill and our dog enjoyed sitting outside on the patio after returning from his walks. It was also obvious to us that the garden and pool were cared for in the same loving way as the inside of the home. David, who was away during our stay, was extremely accommodating and made communications and rental procedure easy. He made sure, for instance, that the den was set up as a fourth bedroom for our niece. He also made himself available via email and phone during our stay. However, all went so smoothly that we had no need to communicate with him. Even in the winter, there is plenty to do and see in the area. During our stay the weather was too foggy to make a trip up to the Rochers-de-Naye or Les Pleiades worthwhile. Therefore, we took a trip to Gruyère to see cheese being made and to the Cailler chocolate exhibit in Le Broc, both about a ½-hour drive from the house. On another day we went skating in Vevey at the Patinoire (covered ice rink--open during the winter months). On our last day when the weather still hadn’t improved, we went to the indoor Aquaparc in Le Bouveret, a great hit with our 12-year old niece. On the way home from there, we drove by Château Chillon. Although we didn’t make it to visit the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, it is only a ½-hour drive from the house. Due to the secluded location of the house, a car is a must. We enjoyed 4 memorable days in Amelie and David’s home. We want to thank them for sharing it with us and encourage anyone looking for a place to stay on the Montreux Riviera to consider their home."
