  • Great home! Exceeded expectations!

"My wife and I stayed for our honeymoon; all we wanted to do was relax on the beach and forget all about the busy things in life. This home did just that. Such a scenic view from just about anywhere in the home, and a very uncrowded beach area just steps away. We had a great time using the grill at the home to make dinner while listening to the waves, and the kitchen provided everything that we needed to prepare meals inside as well. The views from the decks and walkway are unbelievable. We would love to come back and stay again in the future!"

  • Relaxing Beach Trip

"We had a great time at Secret Retreat One. The home was very clean, spacious and well-stocked with all we needed. We were very comfortable and enjoyed Vilano Beach everyday we were there. My children never wanted to leave the beach. Ann and Michael were very helpful and attentive. We had a great staycation and hopefully we will be able to return next year and stay longer."

  • Great house and amazing view

"10 of us in all, including 3 kids spent 3 nights at this wonderful house. Everything was clean when we arrived. Plenty of parking, even for 2 large trucks. The kitchen and large dining table made it easy to cook and share meals. We enjoyed watching college football together and being able to eat lunch on the deck. The deck also allowed for an older family member to view the ocean without climbing down stairs. Loved listening to the sound of the waves from bed and looking out the window at an unspoiled view. The beach was quiet and mostly empty, just a lot of walkers and no cars! Our group enjoyed surfing and fishing right in front of the house. The rec room and ping pong were a big hit too. We will recommend this house to any group of people looking to share space together because there was plenty of room for different sleeping arrangements. We put the rollaway bed to use after needing to put an infant to sleep in their own room. This was a great added feature and helped us all feel comfortable. None of us ever felt on top of each other, even with only 1 bathroom on the main floor. Thanks for a wonderful getaway..."

  • Great property - great owner

"The house is well-kept, with most everything you could need. From pots and pans to beach umbrellas and toys, it's probably already there. If it's not, the owner will likely get it for you in a day or two if you just ask. It's up-to-date with multiple flat-screen TV's, cable, internet/wifi, new kitchen appliances, and central A/C that works great. Downstairs you'll find kayaks (and life-jackets), boogie boards, chairs, umbrellas, and a variety of beach toys for the littlest kids. Bring your clothes and some food, and you'll be set. The interior layout is very convenient. The kitchen overlooks the dining and living rooms, and the view continues out through the sliding glass doors to the deck and ocean beyond. Someone commented that they felt they were on a cruise ship when they looked outside. Even if you are stuck doing dishes, the window over the sink looks out over the marsh, with beautiful sunsets. Each side of the house has two bedrooms and a bath. (We didn't rent the downstairs). The kids' room, with the four bunk beds, was great. Furnishings and linens are not fancy but all in good shape, and the house was clean on arrival. The decor is "beachy" without being tacky. Outside, there is a large driveway with plenty of parking (at least six cars). The exterior could use a little sprucing up, but the rest of the house more than makes up for that first impression. The full-length upper deck is accessible from both front bedrooms and the living room and it always has a nice breeze in the afternoon and evening. There is a another deck area downstairs, but we didn't use it much. Access to the beach is quick, though for those with mobility issues, or who are just unsteady on their feet, you should know there is a stairway down to the ground level, and then a moderately steep bank of soft sand (though its only a couple of feet high) to negotiate. Our younger and middle-aged guests had no problems with it, though some older guests needed a steadying hand. The stretch of beach itself is great. Few people, wide at low tide (but still usable at high tide), with firm sand to play on and enough shells to hunt to entertain the kids. Finally, we can't say enough about the owner. From our long initial phone call, to the multiple emails walking us through the rental process, to his near-immediate responses to our questions or concerns, he was great. He is proud of his house, and it shows."
