  • Stream side, tidy, coqui surrounded apartment.

"This VRBO was neat and tidy and well maintained. It actually was better than the pictures portrayed. By looking at the outside of the building I was a little concerned when we drove up, but pleasantly surprised when we stepped in. Comfortable beds, lots of towels and hot water. Great set up on the configuration of the one and a half baths. Nice view out the windows at the stream-side vegetation. Easy walk to downtown for meals. In the kitchen there was no dish soap, no pan to boil water or boil anything in. The lighting in the dinning room and living room was lacking and there was no place to sit and read. No instruction with the TV so it was impossible to figure out even the basics. I sent an email to the owner asking for help with the TV and he never answered my questions. One bar of soap for the bathrooms. The coqui frogs are as loud here as anywhere in Hilo, so if you're not aware of that it could be difficult. I would tell friends about this place as it is reasonably priced. Volcano National Park is defiantly worth exploring."

  • Clean & Tidy, well appointed, great Location!

"The Arecas was spacious, tidy, and well appointed. Paula greeted us when we got there and everything was in tip top condition! This was a convenient location for us, and it had all the comforts of home. The garden view from the screened porch was lovely, and we could hear the waterfalls when the coqui weren't singing! (Which we loved by the way). We appreciated that there were ample plates, glasses, etc and the linen supply was sufficient. From The Arecas, the Boiling Pots are a short walk away, the rainbow falls is less than 3 minutes away by car. Downtown is 5 minutes away, and Paul did a great job of giving information about local dining and sights. I only wish we had more time to spend in Hilo, and we would definitely return!"

  • Pleasant stay

"Good experience. I would stay there again. Tree house was broken but they worked on it and it was usable on the last day or two of our trip. Also the property manager was very nice and courteous. He promptly responded to any issues we saw. No central heat - got down to 60s at night (stay was in winter). This was fine by us and we appreciated staying in a place that was environmentally conscious. A few extra blankets made everything comfortable. Warm and very pleasant during the day."

  • Cute, well-equipped, central location

"Renee has obviously put a lot of thought and effort into preparing this unit for rental. It has the best equipped kitchenI have ever seen in a rental unit! We appreciated the snorkelling gear and extra large beach towels too. The unit was clean, tidy and we loved being in town but able to use it as a base for our daily explorations. The only thing lacking is some comfortable chairs (or a small couch) to sit on - an alternative to the dining nook bench seats. Replacing the "desk" with a couple of softer chairs would make a big difference."
