  • Tropical Paradise

"Lopaka's Lodge was like 'home away from home'. Bev thought of everything, from coffee and creamer for our first morning after arrival to canvas shopping bags to use for food shopping! The kitchen was very well stocked and the laundry room was fantastic and also fully stocked. Most rentals do not include things like laundry detergent, etc., but Bev's had it all. There were beach towels, sunscreen, umbrellas, the list goes on and on. The lanai was perfect for morning coffee. I especially liked the white rope lights that line the lanai which we turned on every night. They added such atmosphere (along with the coqui frogs serenading us every night)! The location is in a lovely neighborhood, an easy drive to the Volcano National Park which we visited two days and was a highlight of our two weeks. And the Hawaii Botanical Gardens was another highlight--an amazing place. Bev hugged us when we arrived and it felt like we knew her forever! We hope to return someday. Aloha!"

  • Astonding View Of Hilo BAY

"My wife and I stayed in this house in Hilo for two week from mid February to the beginning of March 2016. The property sits on the protected side of Hilo bay about 100 yards from the cruise ship and freight ship pier. While we were there, a cruise ship passed within a few yards of property; close enough to wave to the passengers on the upper deck. The view from the back yard into the bay is relaxing and pleasant. This is also the view seen from inside the living areas of the home because of the homes' unique open design. Facing the bay is the living room with an alcove with a 8 foot wide bay window. On the opposite side of the house is an identical alcove with a large dinning table and a 8 foot wide bay window. Between these is an outdoor protected deck with table and chairs. Behind the living and dinning areas is the kitchen with the cook top on a counter so that the person cooking has a direct view of the bay. We selected to fix all our meals at the house. The kitchen is a little dated but is spacious with plenty of counter and storage space. The kitchen is well equipped with pots and pans and utensils. The only thing missing from the kitchen is a large cutting board and potato masher. There are three spacious bedrooms at the front of the house away from the bay. The house is in a central location; it is half a block to the main road which takes you into town in one direction, and to several close by county beach parks in the other direction. Our favorite park was “ Carlsmith beach park” with a large grass area to sun yourself and large pools of perfectly clear waist high water protected by a lava rock breakwater to take a swim. While we were there, three sea turtles were constant companions. A quarter of a mile toward town this road intersects into a perpendicular highways which takes you to the volcano and the main shopping area. People will tell you that it is always raining in Hilo- Don't believe it! During our 14 day stay, 12 were sunny to mostly sunny days."

  • Spectacular Zen Location, Real Hawaii Experience

"Not our first vacation rental, but by far the best VRBO EVER!!! When you arrive you drive up a fairytale tree lined driveway that borders the stream. Then the real beauty and Zen of Hawaii unfolds in front of you as the driveway gives way to a beautiful clearing with a clear stream and huge pond full of brightly colored fish. Even the fish are Zen because they follow you around like they can telepathicaly communicate with you. The house is wonderful with lots easy opening windows and good screens everywhere. We stayed 4 days in August and it was wonderful weather, the high vaulted ceilings with ceiling fans in every room kept it cool and comfortable day/eve. It rained at night and we got to listen to the frogs along with intermittent rain and the stream sounds. A few showers in the morning and by 8am-9am beautiful sunshine streamed through the palm trees. It really does look like a post card, no joke. Never needed to call the owners during our stay, although Linda did call us once to check on us. The house is super clean, no bugs which surprised me since we're in a beautiful jungle. The kitchen is fully equipped although we didn't cook much here, we did enjoy the blender for fruit smoothies and the coffee grinder for our fresh Kona coffee beans. The huge king bed and sauna were my two favorite things inside the house! Who'd of thought you could enjoy a sauna in Hawaii. Linda warned us the internet was slow but I found it fine, I used it every morning and night to post to Facebook with no problems. Two nice big TV's (living room/bedroom). I must say I think they have more DVD's than Walmart, like an entire wall full seriously. Outside is just remarkable, I could babble on forever about the yard, stream, ponds, fish, birds.....Everything you expect to see when you dream about your Hawaii vacation. Even for us city people this house is easy to find, close to town with everything you could want. We picked up local plate lunchs to go while we were out during the day and enjoyed them and fruit from the Hilo Farmers Market for dinner, so we didn't have to bother to cook. My only regret was only booking part of our vacation in Hilo. We went to Kona for 3 days before coming here and then we realized that we wish we had spent all our time at this fabulous Zen location. We're already looking at coming back next year, more to see on the Hilo side, we're sure to book this beautiful property again. Thanks for sharing your little slice of Heaven."
