  • Peaceful

"We spent a week here with our son, daughter-in-law and twin 7-year old grandsons. The house is clean, well cared-for and comfortable. Lots of windows with good ventilation and natural light. The front porch has a nice roof overhang that makes it a great place for al fresco meals or games or hanging out in wet weather. Beds are comfy. Having 2 bathrooms is a plus with that many people in the house. Bring your own body wash and shampoo. Kitchen is in good shape, with a fridge, range, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, and Mr. Coffee that takes ground coffee. (Don't expect to use your K-cups.) Washer and dryer in the basement. There is a TV and a satellite dish, but there was no signal while we were there. As a backup, there are a ton of DVDs for movies. Lake Garfield is beautiful. Not very deep. Has a fair amount of bottom vegetation - but pretty good fishing and wonderful for boating - kayaks to powerboats. In front of this property, the lake is shallow and doesn't lend itself to diving or jumping off the dock. But the dock is a great place to sit and enjoy morning coffee. There are two canoes and, I think, 3 kayaks. (We brought our own kayaks.) There's also a small aluminum rowboat that would be a good fishing platform. There is a nice 4 burner gas grill and a firepit. Make sure to pick up dry firewood at the Monterey General Store downtown on the way to the place. DO NOT BRING FIREWOOD FROM OUT OF STATE. Massachusetts does not want you to accidentally import the invasive Emerald Ash Borer with firewood you bring from home! I'm told AT&T phones work OK here. We have Verizon. Service at 1 bar is sporadic - and forget about 4G ... BUT isn't that why you go on vacation? to get AWAY from the darned thing?"

  • Wonderful Lake House Cottage

"My spouse and I had high expectations for this cottage and Moore cottage exceeded them. The cottage's design really compliments the beauty of the area and lake. There are many vantage points in which to view the lake: inside the cottage from all three floors and especially from the two separate outdoor decks and a private dock-all at different levels or heights. The three floors of the cottage all have a spacious view of the lake. We were there for one week at the busy time of summer yet this spot felt very private. The swimming and boating (canoe and kayak) were very pleasant, no weeds. We enjoyed this magical spot so much we rarely left the cottage for the many surrounding events, restaurants, shopping, etc. We also took walks around the area which was pleasant with dirt roads in a wooded area. Sandra was incredibly helpful, warm and displayed a generous attitude throughout our interactions (e.g., with restaurant tips and went above and beyond even helping us retrieve an forgotten item). Also at the cottage there was a helpful guidebook the owners put together and the cottage was well stocked with all household basics and more. We would definitely return to Moore Cottage and letting our friends about this gem. We absolutely adored the whole experience of Moore Cottage."

  • Great place for a family weekend

"We rented this house because it is centrally located between cities where different members of our family live. We stayed over Thanksgiving weekend, and this was ideal for that. There is plenty of parking, and the house is separated from the owners house by 2, two car garages. The house appears to have been built within the last few years, everything is modern and functional with fast free WIFI, flat screen TV, and a large kitchen with an island. The house is tucked back in the woods, yet within 10 minutes of any stores you would need. The owners are very nice, and only interacted with us when necessary, such as removing our trash and recyclables. The couches could be more comfortable, but a small price to pay for a wonderful time. We would definitely stay here again!"

  • Great Location, Beautiful House

"We enjoyed our stay @ West Stockbridge Dream. It's very well located, right on Main street in the village of West Stockbridge and the best feature of the house is the wonderful patio overlooking the river. We spent a couple of hours every morning there having breakfast, chatting and enjoying the soothing sounds of the running water and chirping birds. The retractable awning and the gas grill added were very convenient. The kitchen is large and has everything you may need to prepare a nice meal. The two levels allow for complete privacy (my daughter and her fiancé were upstairs) and I was downstairs. Lois was very responsive and helpful. My only regret is that I could not have natural light in the living room downstairs, off my bedroom. It would have been nice to have sheer curtains on the windows and be able to raise the shades. This notwithstanding, we had a great time in your house, Lois, and will come back! Thank you."
