"Crabapple Cabin was lovely. It is a small, adorable, cozy cabin nestled among the trees on a fantastic piece of property that the owners, Jackie and Ralph, have lovingly and beautifully landscaped. The Yellowstone River is yours to enjoy exclusively for fishing, rafting and wild life viewing. Each morning there was a family of deer playing in the river just across from the cabin. The hike along the river bank extends for several miles before encountering other property owners. This was a walk that was especially enjoyed by not only myself, but my dog each morning.
While the cabin itself is small, it was perfect size for just my dog and I. It would also provide ample room for a couple with small children as there is a a loft with additional beds. Four adults might find it a tight squeeze, especially if there were additional children. But the property is huge! There is a lovely deck that wraps around two sides of the cabin and part of it is covered. I sat under the covered deck during a quite significant thunderstorm and enjoyed watching the rain!
The cabin provides access to the northern entrance to Yellowstone, which I visited while I was staying at the cabin once and again later when I was staying in Bozeman. Access from the cabin was better and quicker through the northern entrance into Yellowstone! There is a very nice restaurant in Chico Hot Springs (the food smelled wonderful when I drove by), but I did not stop to eat.
The cabin was built in 1939, and as our family has a cabin that was built in the 1920's; staying there brought back many fond childhood memories. Jackie and Ralph have made many improvements and the property is well maintained, but expect a cabin and not a newly constructed house. The Jerla's extend warm hospitality to their guests and I enjoyed the flowers and homemade wine. Jackie and I share a love of reading, so we bonded over animals, good reads and a variety of other subjects. As animal lovers, we had a bit of entertainment watching her cat, Elmo, tease my dog, Lillybeth each day.
I simply cannot wait to return and plan to do so both in the winter and next summer. I would love to say something negative so that no one would stay there. (I could just move in permanently as a long term renter) But that would be very unfair to two wonderful people that I like and very untrue about a place I fell in love with! I hope that you find your visit to Crabapple Cabin in Paradise Valley as special as I did!"
