  • Awesome retreat for ministry Board of Directors

"It's amazing how effective meetings can be when in the right environment. VERY conducive to relaxed discussion and decisions. The nearby walking trails by the river added a lot, the small waterfalls were an unexpected blessing. Spacious conference room, and so easy to show the laptop display on the wall. The kitchen and dining areas were perfect for a group, loved the long dining table. Everyone had plenty of access to bathrooms. I guess the only way I could see to enhance the experience was to do this in winter so I could go skiing (ha ha), but the trails more than made up for that."

  • Girls Wilderness Getaway Success!

"This was a last minute rental for a bachelorette getaway that was a bit off the beaten path. The cabin turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. The drive up the mountain was a little intimidating for 8 Florida girls in a minivan, but if we were able to make it - anyone can. When we arrived we were extremely pleased to find that the cabin was exactly as described on HomeAway. It was well kept, clean, and cozy. It was secluded enough to feel very private, but not too far from the comforts of home. The cabin has a full kitchen - fridge, microwave, oven, toaster, and dishwasher. Although WiFi was available, we had a really hard time getting and staying connected. Our cell reception was also quite limited. Margene did leave a phone number for their internet provider, but we took this opportunity to stay 'unplugged' for the weekend and just enjoy our surroundings. We enjoyed the wonderful views from the patio every morning and evening. The tranquil and relaxing atmosphere was a nice (and welcomed) change of pace from our regular routines. We were even lucky enough to see a few family of deer, chipmunks, rabbits, and hummingbirds. Our group found plenty of things to do within just half an hour to an hour from the cabin: hiking, zip lining, rafting, shopping, and even an amusement park. There is literally something for everyone. We're giving this cabin a 5 star rating because it was everything we wanted and more. Margene was easily reachable whenever we had a question, the cabin was great, and the surrounding areas were awesome. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway, the Owls Roost is the place for you."

  • Extremely clean and comfortable!

"My husband and I decided at the last minute to go away for the weekend and found this wonderful condo. The owner was great to work with and very prompt with communication and returning our deposit. The unit was extremely clean and comfortable and it felt like being at home. The location was wonderful for everything we had planned! I highly recommend this unit to anyone going to Sugar Mountain!"

  • Thumbs Up from App State Parents

"We rented this cabin for the Appalachian Ambassador Family Weekend. Our pre-arrival communications with Angela were friendly and helped us prepare for our trip. We arrived to find the cabin larger than expected, clean, and feeling immediately like home. Our favorite things: -the layout...space and privacy for everyone -the kitchen and grill...well equipped, and we even cooked for our daughter's friends one night -the quiet...it was so peaceful. We used the super-clean hot tub both nights. We woke to a skiff of snow on Saturday. -the bedding...comfortable mattresses and nice linens -the good water pressure...I know this sounds like a little thing, but we have stayed so many places where the water pressure is like a trickle; that was not true here. Good water pressure made for nice showers. -the location...Valle Crucis is so lovely. We enjoyed the drive in and out. We were about 15 minutes from the main ASU campus. It was a perfect spot. We also enjoyed visiting the original Mast General Store. Since our daughter is a freshman at ASU, we were hoping to find a cabin that could be our 'home away from home" when we visit Boone over the next four years. Thankfully, we have found it. We'll be back!"
