  • Weekend getaway

"The cabin was excellent. We had everything we needed except snow. Even though it was a little rainy we still had a great time going into town and just relaxing. The cabin was beautiful and amenities were perfect. We went to the Mast General Store and Mellow Mushroom. We will be planning another trip and staying here. Thank you!"

  • A weekend getaway with family

"Your place is so quaint and it gives you the feel of being in the mountains. Enjoyed the view of the river and the deer was a plus. Nice and quiet area. Very well stocked kitchen. We would definitely recommend your home and even come back ourselves. Thank you for opening your home to us. My family had a wonderful time!!"

  • Wonderful cabin for family gathering

"Rented this cabin for our family to attend my son's graduation from Appalachian State Universtiy. This is a beautiful cabin that is setup well for family gatherings. We had 8 people and were very comfortable. A large porch with rockers that overlook Grandfather Mountain in the distance and a fire pit. They just replaced the gas logs in the fireplace and it really put out nice heat. One of the best features for me, Linens and Bath towels included in price!! I also saw a large storage area for ski's or even kayaks in the summer. Already looking to book in 2020 for my other son's graduation from App State. (It is located about 15min from campus)"

  • Lives Up To The Five-Star Reviews!

"I write reviews by trying to answer the questions I would have as a potential buyer. The most obvious question; would I come to The Summit again? Absolutely! Our family thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I think it would be difficult to find a property that packs this much punch for the price. Were there any negatives? Not much. The few that were can easily be rectified. For example, the directions. The directions that were emailed to me were perfect. The problem is most of us are so used to GPS we just plug the address in and off we go. Well, either Google Maps is wrong or the address is wrong, but either way 9455 Elk Creek Darby Rd is marked about a half mile north of the turn-off to the gravel road. I know, why isn't that explained in the directions? Not sure. For the record, the turn off is right at the county line where Buffalo Cove Rd turns into Elk Creek Darby. If you look at the satellite view on Google Maps you'll see a turn off at "Walker Gap". That's the gravel road where you need to turn. Speaking of the gravel road, it's not that bad. But yes, it is really steep in some spots. Two in our group were in small front-wheel drive cars and they had trouble with their front wheels spinning in the ruts. But it was pouring rain, really muddy, and pitch black out. My pick-up and another small SUV had no problems. The next day when it was dry, my nephew came in a very low sports car and had no problem. I would only be concerned if it's raining when you go. Now, the good stuff. The house really is amazing. It's not like most rentals that tend to be generic, under-furnished, bland and out-dated. This place feels warm and inviting and is very well stocked. Tons of board games and DVD's. There are plenty of blankets and towels. And the kitchen is very well stocked too. Almost everything you'll need is there including basic spices and condiments in the fridge. We made a large batch of spaghetti one night (their slow cooker came in handy for my wife's homemade sauce), but the largest pot in the house could only handle about a pound of pasta. No biggie, next time I'll bring a bigger pot from home. Everything else was simply amazing. My kids loved the pool table and ping pong. The hot tub was amazing; you really can see more stars away from the city. The trails were a nice touch. I'm an experienced hiker and I was impressed. We even used their turkey call to call in a big gobbler. The kids loved it. And of course the views really are impressive"
