  • Relaxing weekend away with friends

"I decided to gather 9 of my closest friends for a weekend getaway just outside the city. Heading up to Guemes island was a mixture of fun adventure and relaxing getaway. We were able to enjoy our time and below I'll provide the pros/cons and my tips for future vacationers. Pros: The ferry was short, cheap, and travels across often. There was practically no noise, traffic, or other people around at all during our stay, the house is completely surrounded and feels very private. The house was very spacious and provided exactly what we needed for a short weekend away, including some board games and the garage entertainment (pool/ping pong) was greatly appreciated. The back deck is very spacious and it was very easy to accommodate everyone for relaxing and chatting in a large circle. The yard is also very spacious and can easily have multiple people running around at once. Cons: (Most of these cons were a result of me and not the house) There are only a few outdoor chairs, so bring some if you like to lounge. The ferry can only hold 20-22 cars at a time so get there a little early otherwise you may have to wait. There was no outdoor fire pit, which would have been really fun but again there was never one promised so I can't be upset about not having one. The propane tank was empty but we filled it at the local store and the home-owner reimbursed us, yay! Pro-tips: Do your research on the ferry schedule and get there 20-25 minutes early. Pack plenty of chairs and everything you'll need to enjoy they weekend (outdoor games, drinks, water, etc...). If you can't find the ping pong paddles look in the drawers by the garage sink... trust me... they are there! I recommend bringing flip flops or slippers since there is a lot of in and out of the back patio (lazy pro-tip). Bring fancy cooking utensils, the basics are there. The house was amazing and we had a great time, enjoy yourself and do the 1.1 mile Guemes Mountain hike, it was beautiful."

  • Memories made!

"When we first pulled in I couldn't believe it was here and actually happening but that feeling couldn't scratch the surface when we opened the door and explored the cabin. It was more than we could have hoped for! Honestly, a home away from home with all the toys needed to create the perfect weekend. Thank you John for sharing this place with my friends and I. We will be coming back to make more memories soon!"

  • Nice Fall Retreat

"We had a nice weekend away. The lake is quiet and relaxing in the fall. The views from the cabin are lovely. We appreciated the kitchen stocked with cooking pans etc. and the sense of privacy. The few minor points being the carpets, downstairs bathroom, and couch are starting to show their age which was in contrast to the lovely sleigh beds and master bedroom. We would return- likely when the Canadian dollar improves as it did seem costly with the exchange and generous housekeeping fees. Overall quite happy!"

  • Magical weekend!

"My extended family and I (5 adults + 2 kids + 4 dogs!) enjoyed Memorial Day weekend at Sunrise, and it couldn't have been better! We spent our days exploring the beach in front of the house (eagles! clams! oysters!), the trails on the island (Otto Preserve and Baker Preserve), local artists' studios and making good use of the large adirondack chairs overlooking Hale Passage and Mt. Baker beyond! We arrived to find Sunrise even better than the VRBO photos, and all accommodations really comfortable. We ended up cooking and eating all our meals at the house, and the kitchen was fully stocked with dishware and utensils (plus the BBQ was easy to use). Lucky us, we also were able to enjoy the peak of the Sunrise garden that Louise and Mel have made beautiful, and left with a list of plants we need to buy at our local nurseries. I can't recommend this house enough, and just hope that in doing so it doesn't mean the calendar will be full many months in advance! We look forward to celebrating another family weekend at Sunrise, as this home made our vacation on Lummi Island truly magical."
