  • just remote enough

"I'm the type who needs to get away in order to not get sucked into work emails and calls every day. The only bummer was that we actually had great cell service the whole stay! (but no one needed to know that back home) The fenced backyard and gated deck were great for our dog, and the wildflower trail gave her plenty to sniff. You can go a couple of days without seeing people, but there's a Wal-Mart and a Sheetz maybe ten minutes away. We may well be back!"

  • Relaxing

"We had a relaxing time at River Star. There are a lot of things to do in that area near Elkins, WVA so we were able to do small day trips and return for a relaxing cup of coffee and s'mores by the fire pit. Our daughter kayaked and it was nice for her to just walk out on to the back yard and right in the Shavers Fork. We had dinner at CJ Maggie's down town. Prices were very reasonable, selection was great, and the portions were huge. Service and atmosphere was very relaxing. The home was clean and well-maintained, amenities all accurate and Patti was eager to help and easy to work with. We enjoyed our stay at River Star. Prayers to the folks in West Virginia struggling with flooding. It is very much a caring state who really look after each other."

  • Beautiful Family Retreat Away from Work and School

"Our family of four had a wonderful week at Larisa's House. The property is just as described on the listing. It was a quiet setting where we enjoyed daily family devotions. The gas grill and rice steamer were used daily in our meal preparations. Every meal was enjoyed on the screened porch. Shaver's Fork was flowing crystal clear behind the house. Despite our efforts, no fish were caught. We explored a lot of the Monogahela National Forest. At Seneca Rocks we hiked to the observation platform 900' above the parking lot. The same day we drove to Spruce Knob and enjoyed the trails at the top of WV's highest mountain. We floated on inner tubes at the nearby Stuart Recreation Area which allowed for an easy pickup to return about 1 mile upstream within the park. We hiked several trails at Blackwater Falls SP enjoying the falls and canyon. The long, winding drive up to Bickle Knob Tower (also close to the house) was well worth the 360 degree view. We spent a day exploring Gaudineer Knob which was beautiful despite the fog blocking the view at the overlook. We also hiked in the nearby Otter Creek Wilderness Area on the Shavers Mountain trail. Wild blueberries were abundant on the Seneca Rocks trail and near the lake at Blackwater Falls SP. On the drive home on Saturday morning we enjoyed shopping at the Elkins Farmers' Market at the train depot. Larisa was readily available before and during our stay. We had a small plumbing problem which Larisa corrected quickly. She went ABOVE and BEYOND to make it right. We HIGHLY recommend this property."

  • outstanding place to be

"Terrific family getaway spot. Secluded, private, scenic. Amazing segment of river on property, good for kids. Wildlife sightings galore. Lots of opportunities for cycling, hiking, fishing -- just about any outdoor pursuit. Owner very communicative and easy to work with. All the amenities. If you're not staying here, you're not doing it right."
