Location: Dixon, New Mexico, USA (Fifty miles north of Santa Fe, 27 miles south of Taos.)

The Tower Guest House nestles in the shade of a apple trees in the center of Crawford's Garlic Farm, with views of the Sangre de Cristo Range to the east, flower beds and garlic rows to the south. The farm is a half-mile off the main highway on the prettiest country lane in the Embudo Valley with little traffic, and is bathed with the sounds of the Rio Embudo 100 yards to he south. To the north the farm borders on a vast expanse of public land, whose hills and arroyos can be explored on foot or by mountain bike.

The Tower Guest House consists of downstairs bedroom in the round stone portion of the structure and a bathroom with shower, and upstairs, via a spacious spiral staircase, a kitchen/living room and deck with stunning views. During the growing seasons, guests will be able to forage for vegetables (lettuce, arugula, spinach, beets, carrots, turnips, onions, squash) and flowers (zinnias, marigolds, sunflowers)from the field.

A cooperative market in the center of Dixon, a l-1/2 mile walk or bike ride on back roads, offers an excellent selection of organic and convential groceries. Next door to it is the Embudo Valley Library, with wireless DSL access. There is also cell phone reception in the center of Dixon.

The Embudo River, an attractive fly-fishing stream, is usually warm enough for dips and innertubing from late June until early October.

Dixon is ideally situated for exploring the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the Rio Grande Gorge, Taos, Taos Pueblo, Santa Fe, Bandolier National Monument, Abiquiu, and parts of Southern Colorado. In the winter, there is skiing within 20 miles.

  • I have often stayed at the El Bosque Farm. This is a truly magnificent area. With the river in front and the hills behind you don't even have to get into a car to immerse yourself in this unique landscape. A beautiful and comfortable self-contained hideaway after a day of exploring...perfect! I would highly recommend El Bosque Farm - I would move in there if I could!
