On a Quiet Canal Near the Arsenale

This sunny, 50 sq.m, first floor apartment (not to be confused with 'ground floor') is in a corner building located on a quiet, yet active, canal near the gardens of the Venetian Biennial International Art Fairgrounds.
It is best suited for 2-3 adults or a couple with 1-2 children/adolescents).
Although the area is 'off the beaten (tourist) path', with all the local color of Venetian housewives doing their morning shopping at the fresh fish and produce markets, children playing in the two, rare 'green areas' of Venice, and people taking the time for a 'spritz' or an 'ombretta' and 'cichetto' (aperitves) before lunch or dinner, it is still in a very strategic position (all lines and Alilaguna stop at 'Giardini', our waterbus-stop) allowing our guests easy access to the apartment from the airport, train station, or city parking lot on the mainland.
Piazza S. Marco is a 10min. walk and the Rialto Brige is 15min. away on foot, but it's nice to know that , after a day of sight-seeing, you can get back home - and anywhere in the laguna (Murano&Burano, and the Lido - Casinò and Film Festival)-with the 'vaporetto' as all lines stop here.

Especially if one is planning on staying for more than a week, which i highly recommend for venice, this flat is a wonderful choice. Easy to get to and from.. and situated wonderfully between the center of activity and the peaceful gardens (which are quite huge) that provide unique open space experience for this city! And Garibaldi street is also right around the corner from this apartment. It's well equipped kitchen can be well used with the nearby supermarket, shops and produce stands on the big avenue. Another unusual feature for venice is these wider streets, mostly local crowd and great restaurants and local shops.. The apartment itself is not modern, but very warm, comfortable and feels like your own home. I believe the price is great too for all that you get! I would highly recommend this flat for successful and stress free enjoyment of Venice! And Gloria is very helpful and kind.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We spent a week in this charming, comfortable apartment. It is in a great location, "far from the maddening crowd" yet just a 20 minute walk to the center of Venice. Nice view of a canal and all the locals going about their daily lives!! A very nice outdoor market just a few blocks away, with great fish and vegetables to make great meals at "home". Very well equipped kitchen. Nice bedroom, bath and living area, with books, music etc. Would come back again and again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We spent 3 wonderful nights in the apartment in October, 2012. The apartment has a great location with very good amenities. We were within 3 blocks of the vaporetti (water taxi) in a residential neighborhood close to shopping and restaurants frequented by the locals. The restaurants were (comparitively speaking) reasonably priced, serving tasty food. It was calming to be across from a canal and so close to the local culture, yet about a 15 minutes lieasurly walk from St. Mark's square. The apartment sleeps 2 comfortably. It had everything we needed to cook meals, relax and browse Venice. We highly recommend this apartment and would definitely stay again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children.

A charming, small, cosy appartment in a quiet area of Venice. Excellent location along a small canal, away from the tourist areas but they are within walking distance or a couple of vaporetto stops. Nicely furnished and a kitchen with supplies in it. Close to shops and restaurants in via Garibaldi. If using the convertible bed, it takes up a lot of living space. Suggest maximum of two people, to be comfortable. Temperature in September was perfect but appartment would be hot in Summer with no air conditioning. Free wi-fi in the appartment is a real bonus.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My niece and I stayed at Gloria's apartment for three nights and wish we had booked it for much longer. Venice was a welcome respite after being in Rome for 5 days, and the location and charm of the apartment were ideal. We absolutely loved the Castello area with the beautiful park and access to Venice Biennale. It was easy to catch vaporetto to get to St, Mark's and other destinations. The sofa bed in the living room was comfortable for me, and my niece had the bedroom. Amenities were more than adequate, and the charm of the setting, with the canal out front and calle on the side, our laundry hanging along with the locals. An excellent choice, and Gloria is great to work with.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

What a great apartment! We stayed 7 nights in Gloria's very nice apartment located in the Castello district. The apartment is about a 5 min walk to the Giardini vaporetto stop or about a 10 min walk to the San Pietro stop on the other side of the island. We purchased a 7 day pass (they are expensive) but well worth the flexibility of hopping on and off the vaporettos. The apartment was very nicely laid out with a good size bedroom, a nicely renovated bathroom, a well equipped kitchen and comfortable living room. Near the apartment are numerous restaurants, fresh food markets, bakeries etc. We would definitely stay here again!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights in this wonderful, quiet, strategically located apartment during an extended trip for our 30th wedding anniversary. Gloria was very easy to work with getting all the logistics taken care of before our arrival, she answered every question by e-mail promptly with more than enough information to help us get to the apartment after landing at the Venice airport. The neighborhood was very fun and we even had a great time hanging out our laundry, what a hoot!! Our first afternoon (shortly after arrival and dropping off our bags) we walked over to a local restaurant to get a bite to eat. What a wonderful surprise we got, not only was the food amazing but a large group of locals had just finished eating as we started our meals so while we ate they broke out their instruments and starting singing. They were so great we sat and listened for over an hour. The restaurant was called Ristorante Giorgione. The food was so good we went back the following evening for our anniversary dinner. We shopped at the local produce stands and the Coop for supplies for the apartment all within a 5 minute walk. This was our 2nd time in Venice and we loved it just as much as the first visit, what a magical place to live. We really like staying in apartments vs hotels when we travel and this one was a gem. My only complaint would be better pans in the kitchen and curtains that stay on the windows. All in all a GREAT experience.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

The apartment was great. It was on a quiet canal with enough traffic to keep things interesting. Lots of windows, comfortable bed, good kitchen except for the *#* oven not always lighting properly. Our standard day was to go to thenearby via Garibaldi street market in the AM and get food for dinner. My wife is a great cook [the apartment could use a couple of good pans she said] and rated it a fabulous market with all you would ever need and no tourists. Then we'd find a nice lunch spot, spend the afternoon touring around and return to a home made dinner and a bottle of wine. What a life. It's an easy walk to Piazza San Marco along the canal from the apartment. Get an IMOB card if you'll be staying a week. We did on Gloria's suggestion and saved quite a bit of money on vaporettos and the airport boat. The card is good for 5 years. The vaporetto stop is right at the end of the canal and is just a few minutes walk away. Will we go back to Venice? You bet. Will we stay at the same apartment again? You bet. Thank you Gloria and Franca.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Dear Paul, So far, I have never responded to those who have written a review (my husband has criticized me, saying that I should have), but seeing that you really appreciated that which Lino and I experience every time we're able to make it back to Venice, I just had to thank you. I couldn't have expressed it better (even the part about the *#* oven - it'll be changed by the time you come again). We'll be more than happy to have you back. "Calorosamente" Gloria

What a great appartment!! It's not just renting, one feels there at home. Gloria, the owner, has done a wonderful job making this homy full equipped appartment. Do not hesitate, this is the appartment for you if you are looking to avoid the tourists and you want to rest in a place where there is almost no noise. And this in Venice is very difficult! Not far from San Marco, just a ten minute walk, Near a vaporetto stop. Close to supermarkets. And close to the only gardens in venice which are very beautiful. Thank you Gloria for the nice place you've created. We stayed there with my husband on September 8 to 11, year 2011. I have had the good fortune of staying multiple times at Glora's apartment in Castello. It is by far my favorite. She is very easy to deal with and along with her friend Maria, makes certain her guests are well-cared for. The location is in a quiet neighborhood away from the bustle of the tourist attractions; close enough to hustle a walk to San Marco in ten minutes, or take a vaporetto in five. The apartment is very well-appointed and has all the amenities needed for cooking up a meal after a long day of sight-seeing. The difference between this apartment and most others is that it feels like an actual home, because it is; most other rentals don't have the personal touches on display. It is extremely comfortable and is very much appreciated. I absolutely adore this place, and will continue to return regularly. Thank you Gloria for your attention to detail and sharing your charming home!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
