  I am getting ready to book another OBX vacation and realized I had not written a review for my best trip, ever! I've been going to the Outer Banks for over 20 years and I'm happy to say this house and its owners provided me with the best vacation possible. I had not stayed in this immediate area before, but plan to return each year. This house has all the creature comforts one could ask for. Take advantage of the Kayaks! Its a short paddle to the Sound and it really adds to the experience. Horses were in the yard every morning to add to the fun! I would write a longer and even more glowing review, but I recommend you experience this home for yourself.

  This was our first adventure into the 4WD section of OBX and what an adventure it was! Our arrival onto the beach was later than we would have preferred due to horrible traffic jams on the horrific highways of Virginia and then another traffic jam coming across the bridge to OBX. So, as a result we hit the beach at HIgh tide. And my husband being the man he is insisted that the lowering the tire pressure thing was not needed because of his big truck we were driving. We bounced around a lot in the thick sand for 11 miles but after 45 minutes made it to our crossover at the dune we needed. Which is where the not lowering the tire pressure really came into play. We got stuck halfway. Luckily for us a pack of happy teenagers happened by just then and pushed us over the top. YAY! Suffice it to say after some research that night on Google he decided lowering the tire pressure was in fact a must! Now onto the house. First let me say the owners were fantastic! Very professional and helpful. Heidi took the time to answer all of my questions. The house was perfect for our family of 5. Spacious and comfortable. Could have slept 3 families. The pool and hot tub were great. Getting to the beach on foot is a bit of a hike, so we loaded up the truck and parked it like everyone else was doing. It was great! The house was clean and the kitchen was fully stocked with all the utensils and things you would have at home. Just don't forget to bring all your disposable products with you. If I had a complaint it would be nit picky about the master on the main living level which is where my husband and I slept. There were no room darkening shades or curtains so the sunrise at 5:30AM woke me up everyday. But like I said that was really our only complaint. It was a fantastic house, vacation and experience overall. Looking forward to next year. We would definitely reccomend this house.

  Owner response: glad you had a great time. people do question me about the lowering of the tire pressure, i always recommend. sounds like you guys made an adventure of the big dune and getting stuck. people are very friendly and willing to help at the beach. we love packing everything for the day just to hang out on the beach as your family did. even though the shades can be closed, the sun can filter in. the sunrise is beautiful at the beach. thanks for a nice review.

  This was our first adventure up into the 4-wheel drive area, and we were not disappointed. It was so nice to drive up the beach from Corolla and to leave the blacktop behind. We had plenty of room in the house for the 3 families that stayed there. For the kids, the most popular spot was the pool, perfect size for them, for the adults, it was the main deck off of the kitchen. A group of 4 horses visited us just about every evening we were there to graze on the grasses near the house. The property's location near the sound was perfect. The kayaks and row-boats were used just about everyday, by the end of the week, our children (8yrs. and 5yrs.) were expert kayakers. Also, we baited the crab traps just about everyday and had a crab dinner at the end of the week. The beach is about a 5 min. drive. We packed up the truck with all we needed for the day and spent time on the beach. The kids loved the boogie boards. Be sure to sop into the Carova Beach Firehouse, the only place to get a Carova beach t-shirt, buy ice for the coolers and support the local firemen. One last thing to mention is SCUBA diving. We drove down to Nags Head and did a shore dive to a wreck about 100 yrds off shore and a boat dive. The shore dive as well marked, and the boat dive was great, we used The Outer Banks Dive Shop, highly recommended also. We would definitely return and rent from the owners in the future.

  This vacation home was a wonderful getaway for a group of friends who stayed this week. We loved hanging out in the spacious kitchen/dining/living room, and the 3 floors had more than enough bedrooms and bathrooms to accomodate our group. The pool and hottub were enjoyable, and the access to the canal/sound is right outside the back door. We were entertained daily with the wild ponies in the yard - and even one walking through the patio! Extra touches like internet access and an indoor/outdoor sound system made the trip modern, even though the location is remote and no one is around to bother you! We found the property to be clean and in good condition, and when directions proved a bit tricky, the owner was readily available by phone to clarify. The drive to the property is not for the faint-hearted; you definitely need a vehicle with good 4-wheel drive, about 45 minutes of time to get there from Corolla, and you must come and go at low tide -- but the destination is well worth the trip. Get groceries before heading out, and be prepared to spend a glorious week relaxing in super quiet surroundings, paddling out on canoes and kayaks, and about a 10-minute drive to the beach for some peaceful fishing or sunning! Would definitely recommend this place, and would go again!!
