HALE LUANA is the ideal destination on O'ahu's north shore for those who value privacy, quiet relaxation, comfort and security. Tucked in against the side of a steep, high hill, inside a coded security gate on tastefully landscaped grounds of almost three acres, mornings are filled with the sound of birds and evenings with the sound of the ocean.
Both the suite and studio have panoramic ocean views, quality king size beds, 380 count cotton bed linen, tropical weight down comforters, Egyptian cotton bath and pool towels, cable TV with premier movie and music channels, wireless high speed internet access ("free wi-fi") and telephones (party line with distinctive ring and on/off switches) with unlimited local calls. Essentials are provided: Pantene shampoo and conditioner, Neutrogena shower and bath gel, q-tips and hair dryers.
There is a caretaker/groundskeeper who lives on the top floor and works full- time, available by cell and house phone to answer any questions about your accomodations, where to eat, how to arrange a massage, surf and scuba lessons, shark tours, etc.
Hale Luana is approximately 9 miles from Haleiwa, a 2 minute drive to Sunset Beach and a five minute drive from the Turtle Bay Resort (great food and a golf course designed by Arnold Palmer). Winter provides the best view of Sunset Beach and Sunset Point, whales and surf. Summer is when those who aren't experienced surfers can enjoy the water- swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving.
In the winter there are sheltered beaches to drive to and there's sky diving, glider rides, horseback riding, hiking and more, year-round. The Audobon Society is 10 minutes away in Waimea Valley (directly across from Waimea Bay) and the Polynesian Cultural center is 20 minutes away.
THE HALE HAS 2 SEPARATE UNITS:
THE SUNSET STUDIO: A large (25' x14') main room with 3 glass walls (hillside garden on two sides, ocean view at the front and from the bed), a hallway to the laundry alcove and the bathroom (with shower). There's an outdoor gas barbeque and the kitchenette has a microwave (and microwave cookware), toaster, blender, rice cooker, coffee grinder and coffee maker.
There's an under the counter refrigerator and another chilled compartment under the filtered water cooler. The bed is a pillow-top king size and the futon couch can be used as a queen size bed. This space has enjoyed by honeymooners, couples with and without children and 3 to 4 young adults traveling together. What guests staying here have said is "it's been our own private world".
THE SUNSET SUITE: A corner room and bath, entered by their own small hallway. Staying in the suite includes use of the living room, kitchen, dining area and the deck. Ocean view from both the side and front of the room, with sliding door/screen to the deck. The bed is king size and comfortable.
We like to say this unit has an almost B&B quality - not because you sit down to breakfast with assorted visitors, but because the caretaker may use the kitchen briefly and enters through a rear door to go upstairs. She's sensitive to the issue of privacy and makes herself scarce after showing you where everything is.
If there aren't guests in the studio, suite guests are welcome to use the laundry. There is a laundromat less than 5 minutes away. Guests staying here have enjoyed waking up to gourmet coffee made from beans freshly roasted at the Coffee Gallery in Haleiwa, saying they feel as though they found a home away from home, only better, and always hoping to return.
The caretaker can make reservations for poolside massages ($65), bicycle rentals, shark tours, etc. if you make arrangements in advance. |
