Notes:
The calendar blocked out dates are for dates when both units are rented, if the dates aren't blocked, at least one of the two accommodations (or possibly both) are available.
There is no security/damage deposit fee. Damage and loss is to be accounted for using the honor system, informing the caretaker.
Both the suite and studio have panoramic ocean views, quality king size beds, 380 count cotton bed linen, tropical weight down comforters, Egyptian cotton bath and pool towels, 32' flat screen cable HDTV with premier movie and music channels, wireless high speed internet access ('free wi-fi') and telephones (party line with distinctive ring and on/off switches) with unlimited local, mainland and Canada calling. Essentials are provided: Nexus shampoo and conditioner, Neutrogena shower and bath gel, Q-tips and hair dryers.
There are 3 bicycles with chains and locks, 3 sets of snorkels, masks and fins for adults, 2 sets for children,6 boogie boards,3 surf boards (for experienced surfers only!), 3 coolers, 6 beach chairs and 2 umbrellas, a large assortment of pool floats for toddlers to adults and 1 child's safety vest for the ocean, 1 for the pool. Pool towels may be taken to the beach.
Both units are supplied with all paper goods, clear wrap and foil, large and small baggies, pepper and salt grinders, good quality plates, bowls and mugs, to-go mugs, s/s flatware, propane for the BBQ's.
A caretaker/groundskeeper lives on the top floor (enters in the evening, exits in the morning) through the suite's kitchen door - 8 steps to her stairs), is available by cell phone to answer any questions about your accommodations, where to eat, how to schedule a massage, arrange for private catering, surf and scuba lessons, hikes, the best luau, catamaran sailing, etc.. Private photographic helicopter charters on O'ahu and to outer islands can be a memorable part of your vacation.
Hale Luana is approximately 9 miles from Haleiwa, a 3 minute drive to Sunset Beach and a five minute drive to Turtle Bay Resort (great dinners at 3 good restaurants, a golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and a sheltered beach to be enjoyed when the waves are too big). Winter provides the best view of Sunset Beach and Sunset Point, whales and surf. Summer is when those who aren't experienced surfers can enjoy the water- swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving.
In the winter there is a sheltered beach 5 minutes away by car and there are: sky diving and helicopter rides, horseback riding, hiking and more, year-round. Waimea Valley (directly across from Waimea Bay) is 10 minutes away and the Polynesian Cultural center is 20 minutes away.
HALE LUANA HAS 2 SEPARATE UNITS:
THE SUNSET STUDIO: A large (25' x 14') main room with 3 glass walls (hillside garden on two sides, ocean view at the side, front and from the bed), a hallway to the laundry alcove and the bathroom (with shower). There's an outdoor gas grill (with a burner) and the kitchenette is newly installed; granite counter with 2 glass-top invection units, s/s cookware, a large microwave (microwave cookware), 4 slice toaster, blender, rice cooker, hot pot, coffee grinder, French press, espresso and coffee maker. New photos are not yet posted, available upon request. The TV has an adapter that allows you to watch DVD's using your laptop. There's a portable unit with speakers to play iPods and iPhones.
There's an under the counter refrigerator and another chilled compartment under the filtered water cooler. The bed is a pillow-top king size and the futon couch converts to a queen size bed. This space has been enjoyed by honeymooners, couples with and without children and 3 to 4 young adults traveling together. What guests staying here have said is 'it's been our own private world'.
THE SUNSET SUITE: Staying in the suite includes exclusive use of the living room, fully equipped gourmet kitchen, dining area and the deck. The suite bedroom is a corner room with a sliding door to the ocean facing deck. There's a CD library and an adapter for an iPod. There's also a portable player with speakers for iPods and iPhones. Ocean view from both the side and front of the bedroom, with sliding door/screen to the deck. The bed is king size and comfortable.
The suite is not 'small child friendly'; infants and older children are most welcome. (Parents with walking babies, toddlers, small children stay in the vstudio.)
On the same floor as the suite is the office/library. There is a door to the office from the rear deck for the caretaker to use (rarely - only when there's a cable related problem and access to the modem is needed) and a door between the kitchen and dining areas to go upstairs to her quarters. She's sensitive to the issue of privacy and makes herself scarce after showing you where everything is. (Note: To accommodate more than 1 or 2 guests in the suite. there's a queen size bed in the office. It is available @ 40. per day for 1, or 60. per day for 2.) There's a second washer and dryer for the use of suite guests. Guests staying here have enjoyed waking, saying they feel as though they found a home away from home, only better, and always hoping to return.
(For guests traveling with infants or babies, there is a port-a-crib with sheets, blankets and mobile, floor play mat/infant 'gym', floor seat, 2 strollers, a Pack 'n Play with sheets, a bathinette, a high chair and a diaper bag to take to the beach.)
At the pool there are 4 chaise lounges, 1 table with 6 chairs and an umbrella and 1 table with 2 chairs. The Jacuzzi runs 24/7 and has a hydraulic lift for the top.
The caretaker can make reservations for massages ($75), bicycle rentals (if additional ones are needed), catered meals and chartered helicopter rides, etc., if you make arrangements in advance.
Please note that the calendar only reflects when both units are rented. Mahalo.

You dont want to miss out on this one! Absolutely Gorgeous! We rented the studio unit for the four of us, it had everything we needed, from beach towels, toys, chairs, umbrellas, snorkel gear, to great hair and bath products. The king bed was very comfortable and the futon was plenty of room for the two teenage girls. The view is spectacular!! You have such great privacy, with all the beautiful landscaping, surrounding the entire house. We left the door open and screen closed each night to enjoy the sound of the ocean. The house truely is more beautiful in person than just looking at a few pictures on the intenet. The pool and hottub are great! Louise was wonderful to work with, we had an issue with a couple of bike tires going flat, and she had them fixed that day, so we were able to go on an hour bike ride the next morning, she was so helpful with anything you asked. This house is in a great location, we love the north shore, we did stay two nights in Wakiki, because one person in our party had never been there. We'll never do that again! Truely a dissapointment after leaving such a wonderful, relaxing, and beautiful place as this. We will definitely stay here when we return from now on. This place is HEAVEN!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I stayed at the Sunset Beach studio for seven heavenly days in mid-January, 2013. This was our first time (25th Anniversary trip), but it won’t be our last. The accommodations are lovely and include every amenity you can think of. The photos on the website are good, but reality is even better. The surroundings and views are SPECTACULAR both day and night (stunning ocean and sunset views by day and planetarium starlight views from the bed at night). We went often for the 5-minute ride to Turtle Bay Resort for the calm swimming waters (January is great for wave watching, but not swimming) and found that we were staying at a comparably luxurious location at a fraction of the cost. And then there is Louise…the perfect host/concierge/all around lovely lady who seems to always be there just when you need her, and yet never in the way of your privacy. She is just amazing, and a wonderful part of the experience that is the aloha spirit of Hale Luana.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.

I stayed at hale Luana studio with my 2 boys (6 and 9). They loved the jungle atmosphere and the private pool. By day, We surfed and played at many of the North Shore beaches. It was always nice to retreat back to the pad. This is our third year on the North Shore. In the past we have stayed at Turtle Bay (both at the hotel and the Ocean Villas). We were much more at home at Hale Luana and we were still able to enjoy parts of the hotel (public beach and Lei Lei's restaurant). It was great having a washer and dryer since we decided to pack light. Although we chose to eat out a lot, it was also nice to have the kitchen for snacks and meals. Way more economic than our hotel stays before. I really liked the secured gate at the top of drive way. I felt very safe to leave the windows open at night and listen to the waves pound. The studio was very clean and private. Louise is very quick to respond and was a pleasure to deal with. She made sure we had what we needed including surfbaords and beach towels. We even cancelled our Waikiki hotel towards the end of our trip and stayed 2 extra nights at Hale Luana. We look forward to going back again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We arrived to a clean, homey environment. The privacy of the 3 acres of beautiful garden was a bonus. Louise, the resident caretaker was very helpful and non obtrusive. In no time we were totally relaxed, waking up to the crow of roosters and watching the sunrise, having morning coffee from the deck; then later that day watching the sun set. You need to have a vehicle to get arround and enjoy the North Shore. We have told every one what a great place to vacation, and the accomodations, Highly recommended.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We chose the sunset suite for our summer vacation and stayed there for a week. It ends up one of our best summer vacaiton. Having a light lunch at poolside with stunning North Shore view. Massage in the suite in sunset. (Thank you Louise for your great assistance during our stay!). Picking some loco veggies and Angus beef up at Foodland nearby. Enjoyed dinner at dining with red wine. Ending for the day, having a nightcap at balcony with Hawaiian breeze. Time to time there gets rain at night. It brought us a nice and deep sleep. You will forget about aircon cos you don’t need it. We are not surfer but we love North Shore. Here is the perfect place like us. Stunning view and quiet environment. (You won’t be bothered by w/e spree among young kids!) Once again thank you Louise for your hospitality. We enjoyed our stay 100%. And see you again Louise. Oh Oranges we picked some from garden were so great for breakfast and also good for orange Mojito.Recommended for: Age 55+.

This place was just a perfect get away for my wife and me to get some rest and enjoy our life peacefully. It was really nice and quite with extra privacy. Everything was there at the house, the kitchen (if you feel like cooking), swimming pool, Jacuzzi, laundry machine, and most part of all the ocean view when you open your eyes in the morning (sunset view is really nice too.)… If you are looking for a place to relax and spend some time with your loved ones…this is the spot.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

My wife and I came here for a couple of days before heading off to Kauai, and we enjoyed it very much. Great location on the North Shore and close to just about everything. Most things on the North Shore are no more than 15 minutes away or so. You really need to have a rental, or be REALLY into biking if not. It is nice that the home has bikes and all the equipment you would need to go to the beach. The home itself is very nice and quiet. The wide open living space is great for just relaxing and watching the ocean from anywhere in the house. The bed was super comfortable also. This is one thing that always gets us when traveling and luckily we were not disappointed. Only problem are the crows waking you up! Nothing anyone can control however (unfortunately). They didn't bother me too much as I just put a pillow over my head, the wife can't sleep that way. You can always close the windows and doors, but that may warm up the place a bit much to be comfortable. We are looking at coming back possibly in January and wanted to stay on the North Shore, so if we do we will stay here again. Oh and Louise is great. You barely even notice her unless you need her. Thanks for everything!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

My husband and I just returned from our first visit to the North Shore of Oahu. We stayed at this beautiful property in the downstairs studio, and it was just what we wanted. Breathtaking views, quiet, incredible gardens. Truly felt the Aloha Spirit. The king size bed sits in the midst of open air with sea breeze washing over you all night. Louise is a wonderful hostess, we had everything we could want, and if there is something else, Louise will get it for you. We will return to the North Shore, and wouldn't stay anyplace else!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed in the 'suite' with our 11 year old daughter. I learned that "Hale" means house and "Luana" means to be at leisure and enjoy pleasant surroundings. Now in this case that would be a complete understatement. It is way more than that. It's a unique, Hawaiian experience. You're on the North Shore, the outback of Oahu, in the middle of nature, overlooking the Pacific, with breathtaking views, watching the sun sink in the ocean every night. It is going to be even more than you expect. Indescribable. The suite feels like a complete house, with a large kitchen (loved the icecrusher), two bedrooms and windows everywhere, so wherever you are, there's that view again. Put some music on, dream away, and never want to leave. Because of the many ventilation openings built in the house, there is an almost constant breeze, that makes it very comfortable and cool. The garden is huge, with palm trees and beautiful plants and flowers. We picked fresh oranges every morning to make juice. The pool and jacuzzi are the icing on the cake. Watching the sunsets from the whirlpool is just amazing! Our daughter loved everything about the house, although she had to get used to the occasional gecko and bug encounter. But hey, your on the North Shore, in a real house, not in a resort. She even gave one gecko a name: Thats Carl, he's green, and eats mosquito's. Then there is Louise, the caretaker. She is a special person, and she can and will help you with everything she can. Always 'just a phone call away'. Because of her, the place looks and feels like it does. She puts her heart and soul in the garden, and is always there when you need her. Knows a lot about the island, the people and can give you tips about nearly everything. She arranged a yoga style massage for me, in the house. Felt like reborn afterwards.. Also felt like reborn after our unforgettable stay in Hale Luana. It has created a beautiful memory for all of us. Thanks Louise. We will definitely be back one day!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

My partner I and I spent 4 days/3 nights in the studio apartment of Haleluana. The property is absolutely beautiful. There are amazing views, the landscaping makes you feel like you are on a top-tier resort, and the accommodations include everything you need to make you feel at home. Louise was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable of things to do on the north shore. She arranged for a catamaran trip and was able to get us a discount. She is incredibly friendly and went out of her way to make us feel welcome. I would recommend Haleluana for anyone looking to get away from the hustle of Honolulu or the generic resort experience. It made for for a truly one-of-a-kind vacation, one that we will always remember.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
