This private compound features the luxurious 4 bedroom Homestead House, the beautiful matching 2 bedroom Carriage House, and a covered pavilion in the entry courtyard next to a waterfall and stream that run yearround. The Homestead House features over 3000 sqft of luxury living, with two Master Suites, and two additional luxurious queen bedrooms with beautiful views, 9 foot ceilings, and tall doors leading directly out onto the private Spa Deck.
A state-of-the-art hot tub on the Spa Deck offers 180 degree views of the San Juan Range, and the woods surrounding the compound. The night skies are simply spectacular from this eight-person hot tub with hundreds of jets, special lighting, fountains, and a built-in CD stereo system with waterproof speakers that pop up from the deck of the hot tub, balanced by a hidden subwoofer in the tub surround. A gas-fired firepit, which you can enjoy yearround -- with or without adding firewood -- is just a few steps from the Spa Deck, with the hot tub overlooking the firepit. A sunset, and the alpenglow just after sunset, is unforgettable from here.
The beautiful matching Carriage House adds another 1000 sqft of luxury living, with 2 add'l. master suites, steam shower, a second kitchen with black granite countertops, gas range dishwasher, etc., plus a second laundry, another Great Room with 30 ft. ceilings, floating flatscreen hi-def TVs, and all with spectacular views of the San Juan mountains and the surrounding forest. These rates are based on a typical 5-7 night stay, and a separate cleaning fee (at or below our actual cost) is charged for each residence. - King Bed: The upper master at the Homestead House at the Retreat features a king sized bed. The other bedrooms, including the additional master suites in both the Homestead House and the Carriage House, feature queen sized beds.
- Queen Bed (5) : The second master suite at the Homestead House features a queen bed and opens to the Spa Deck, and there are two add'l. luxury queen bedrooms in the Homestead House, each opening to the Spa Deck, where a state-of-the-art hot tub is located. All bedrooms in both residences have beautiful views of the mountains and forest.
- Twin/Single Bed (2) : We have inflatable twin beds for overflow accommodations as needed, in addition to 6 beds and 2 queen-sized sleeper sofas between the two luxury residences.
- Child Bed (4) : For young children ages 3-7, we feature Aero "sleepaway" beds. These little inflatable "nests" are perfect for sleeping little ones when a large bed isn't best.
- Convertible Bed (2) : Beautiful custom-made suede queen sleeper sofas in the Great Rooms of both the Homestead House and the Carriage House handle overflow accommodations for extra guests. We provide feather bed toppers which make sleeping on a pullout a far more comfortable and enjoyable experience.

We also maintain a large inventory of popular titles and new releases at our office; just ask us for something you might like, and we'll arrange to have it there for you at the Retreat during your stay.

- Music Library: We offer music on CDs or DVDs that can be played on any of the many entertainment centers in both residences at the Retreat -- including the CD player in the state of the art hot tub on the Spa Deck! - Private Hot Tub: State of the art eight-person hot tub with hundreds of jets, dozens of hydro-massage programs, built-in CD player, pop up waterproof stereo spkrs, fountain, etc. Top of the line; you'll love it! And on a beautiful view deck surrounded by towering aspens. Too good to be true? That's why we're here!

- Full Kitchen (2) : Gourmet kitchen in the Homestead House with the best of everything, including SubZero fridge, gorgeous black granite countertops, Italian marble tile, dishwasher, gas range, convection ovens, etc. All with beautiful views and open to the Great Room. Just a few steps from the upper deck. On the lower deck, connected by an outdoor staircase from upper to lower deck, features a beautiful outdoor dining table and chairs for dining "al fresco." The Carriage House features its own full kitchen with gas range, dishwasher, and the same black marble countertops as in the Homestead House.

- Refrigerator (3) : Large SubZero fridge/freezer in the Homestead House. Two built-in counter-height fridges in the Carriage House, plus a separate counter-height freezer.

- Gas/Electric BBQ Grill: On upper deck, off the Great Room, and near the kitchen. Quick staircase outdoors connects upper and lower decks, so grilled foods can be quickly served at the outdoor dining area on the Spa Deck directly below.
- Deck/Patio (3) : 1000s of sqft of decking surround the Homestead House at the Retreat, including spectacular view decks, upper and lower, in the woods on the west side of the house, facing the sunsets. There is also a fully decked pavilion, like a gazebo but much larger, with a waterfall and stream in the courtyard. The pavilion is another great place to relax and read a book, listen to music, etc. The Carriage House has its own covered porches.
- Balcony: The double decker view decks serve as upper and lower balconies. There are also other decked balconies at the Retreat as well, each featuring different view aspects -- with 360 degree views of the San Juan mountains, and the woods surrounding the property. No near neighbors -- perfect retreat-style living affording a real break from city life, and a chance to relax and unwind surrounded by the natural beauty of our alpine environment.
- Lanai (2) : The lower deck features a covered lanai with mountain views and outdoor dining table and chairs, leading to the large open view deck, the Spa Deck, where the large outdoor hot tub is located. The Carriage House also features a covered lanai deck as well, with peaceful views of the forest.
- Gazebo: Beautiful pavilion with waterfall and stream -- beyond a gazebo. Plenty of seating for 2, 4, or up to 8 guests at a time, in comfort and style.

- Mountain View: Spectacular views of the San Sophia mountains and our "fourteener," Wilson Peak. Panoramic views in every direction from the house, and the grounds. The mountain views are filtered by the aspens during summer months. In winter, when the aspens drop their leaves, the mountain views are even more dramatic.

- Suitability
- No Pets Allowed: Not in the car. Not inside or outside. No pets. We love 'em too, but you can't bring 'em here. Find a caring friend or family member to take your pets while you travel -- or click the link on our own website (elsewhere in this listing) for "Telluride's Country Camp for Dogs." No vehicles are permitted to be parked offsite on county roads in our area; this is prohibited by law. So please, not in the car, not inside or outside the house -- no pets, period. We reserve the right to cancel your stay if this rule is violated -- without credit or refunds issued.
- Kid Friendly: Couldn't be a more perfect place for kids to enjoy. The gently sloping lot is a wonderful place to explore the woods in the mountains. And the children will enjoy the waterfall and many other aspects of the Retreat, including plenty of high tech stuff like high-def flatscreen TVs, wireless internet access, etc.
- Smoking Not Allowed: No smoking permitted in the house, on the porch, or on the decks, or in the pavillion. Smokers are welcome to smoke outside in the courtyard, or on the roads leading to and from the property (beautiful, quiet, views), perfect for a walk and a smoke -- taking care to dispose of smoking materials properly to avoid a forest fire. But never (and we do mean never) in the house, or where smoking materials might damage our decks, hot tub, pavilion, etc. Your understanding and complete cooperation is expected, and very much appreciated.

Why the Owner Chose Telluride
We bought this beautiful view lot, in a 400 acre aspen forest, over twenty years ago, with plenty of spectacular lots to choose from. This unique location offered "the best of both worlds" -- quiet, private, in the woods up on Telluride's ski mountain -- a true "retreat-style" setting, but with superb close-in access to everything worth doing in Telluride. The Saddle Horn retreat is less than 5 minutes by car from the slopes, and from Telluride's free gondola, and free parking, and Telluride's newest, nicest grocery store (and wines and spirits, of course). And a quick trip down the mountain into the historic Town of Telluride, in the box canyon below, is less than ten minutes by car. But what a difference those few minutes make! Acres and acres of long slender aspens, as far as the eye can see -- and with spectacular views of our "fourteener," Wilson Peak, and the beautiful snow-capped San Sophia mountain range rising to the heavens above Telluride. Too good to be true? Wait till you see it! The 180 degree views of the San Juan Range are even more impressive in person than we can show you in these photographs here. (But you get the idea!)

I'm a retired music professor, and worked for years as a pianist/arranger/conductor for the record companies, often conducting the orchestras for travelling headliners. We retired here to Telluride, and thoroughly enjoy meeting clients from all over the world who stay at our unusual vacation properties.
