This condo is located in the Capitol Hill Historic District within walking distance to all the DC sights such as US Capitol, US Senate, Washington Monument, The White House, Union Station and downtown DC.

This one bedroom, 1 bathroom condo with extra sleeping area in the living room (pull down sofa), offers luxurious accommodation for one person or family of four. Located in the safest neighborhood of Washington DC, Capitol Hill - Historic District, located within walking distance to the National Mall as well as Eastern Market, local landmark. There are numerous grocery stores, restaurants and high end shopping areas within walking distance.

Capitol Hill Historic District takes its name from the hill, which rises in the center of the Federal City and extends eastward. Stretching easterly behind the Capitol Building along wide avenues lies the residential area known as Capitol Hill. Capitol Hill, one of the oldest residential communities in Washington, has grown from a small boarding house community for members of Congress to an area of more than 150 squares embracing a number of separate neighborhoods.

In the early years of the Republic few Congressmen wished to establish permanent residence in the city. Instead, most preferred to live in boarding houses within walking distance of the Capitol. Nothing remains of this community, and the area closest to the Capitol contains the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court, and the House and Senate Office buildings.

Capitol Hill is the largest residential historic district in the District of Columbia. Almost every street is composed of row houses of different stylistic varieties and periods forming a continuous wall broken only by street intersections. Side by side exist early 19th century manor houses, Federal townhouses, small frame dwellings, ornate Italianate bracketed houses and the late 19th century press brick row houses with their often whimsical decorative elements combining Richardsonian Romanesque, Queen Anne, and Eastlakian motifs.

Within the Historic District, you will find the most luxurious accommodation in the one of the best areas in Washington DC with many restaurants, cafes and places to shop, including the Eastern Market, the city's largest farmers' market and flea market.

This elegantly furnished one bedroom apartment approximately 1000 sq feet with one bathroom and fully equipped kitchen with a small backyard seating area and off street parking, provides great hotel alternative within walking distance to US Capitol, US Senate, Eastern Market, Union Station and the National Mall.

You will find sleeping for up to four people and enough room to host the entire family, outdoor deck and living room with an eat in kitchen.

Our location is ideal for touring around DC and we are looking forward to hosting you in DC. We are local, so if you have any questions or special request, don't hesitate to e-mail us!

Owner's Map of Capitol Hill

We are family owned and operated. From the left meet Kate, Jarek (sister and brother) and our mom Dana.

We have lived in Washington for over ten years and love this cosmopolitan city where people get up every morning and get to work on changing the world. The most powerful people in DC can alter the course of history and try to make the world a better place. It's a city where philosophical debate and advocacy of issues beyond one's own family or pocketbook rule the day; a city where what's going on in one's head is far more important than what one is wearing; a city where people come from all over the world to experience democracy and learn the principles of our free society.

We get visitors from all over the country and the world. Some come for one time visit with their family, others keep coming back number of times a year as we host many repeat guests related to the federal government, foreign embassies and the US State Department. We take great pride in having our unit very clean (our mom cleans it, so you know it’s spotless), conveniently located within walking distance to all shopping, restaurants and Metro.

We want you to enjoy your visit whether it is once in a lifetime trip with your family or monthly visit for work. We are looking forward to hosting you in DC and if there is something we can help with, let us know.

visitor from New England

The apartment was well equipped, clean and pleasant. Location and neighborhood great. Our only negative comment would be that the bed was not as comfortable as we would have liked...but we are particular about beds! I would rent again and sleep on the futon in the living room. The owners have thought of everything possible to make one's stay enjoyable.

Great location and property - perfect for our first family trip to DC

Okay, it's taken me 2 years to write this review, sorry. We are about to book another VRBO property and it reminded me of our DC trip. First of all - I had a million questions about the home, area, amenities, etc. Jarek and Kate were patient, informative, flexible and lovely to deal with. This property was ideal for us, we traveled with 2 kids. It was centrally located, lots to do in the area, safe and had all the items needed for a comfortable stay for one busy traveling family. We would definitely stay at this property again. Thanks so much!

A great location

The apt. is just as stated. Clean, comfortable and perfect as our final destination during our 23 day E Coast adventure. The kitchen was stocked and guests are encouraged to leave ingredients that the next guest could use. We so enjoyed our 5 night stay. The Capitol Mall is within walking distance. We started off taking cabs in the morning and quickly hopped onto the Open Top bus. We hopped off at a Whiskey Bar in Georgetown and enjoyed the Elephant & Castle for a late afternoon dinner on Pennsylvania Ave. Union Stations is loud for eating so we found a quiet pub in the post office across the street. It is moving to Union Station. There is so much to see. One of our favorites was the Library of Congress. Thank you for your hospitality .

Loved this Capitol Hill Condo

Guest: DC Lover (Oregon)
Date of Stay: 09/20/10 Review Submitted: 10/11/10

My husband and I spent a week in DC and stayed at this great condo in the Capitol Hill area. The convenience and walking options were just perfect for us and the nine-block walk to the Capitol area was enjoyable with all the historic buildings. Watch the uneven sidewalks, though! The apartment is very well-equipped and we liked that it has a living room separate from the bedroom with a table and couch for some evening relaxation after a day of sightseeing. The condo is well-stocked with essentials, in particular plenty of towels and hot water plus laundry facilities. We also read the guide-books the owners provided and found some things we hadn't been aware of when we arrived. The condo is also very clean and nicely decorated in relaxing colors. We did need to wear sweatshirts or sweaters due to the air conditioning being quite cold for us (we could not adjust it ourselves), but we did appreciate that it wasn't too hot inside after 98 degrees outside. Also, the neighbors in the building are very quiet, which was much-appreciated. Washington is a beautiful city and we loved every monument, museum, walk and tour. We really recommend the Newseum for an incredibly interesting museum experience, and with all the Smithsonians in addition it was easy to see treasure after treasure. Be sure to check out the Eastern Market, which is nearby. We had a fun Sunday brunch there and the market itself was better than average and even had some good music on a rainy morning. We will definitely rent this condo again when we are lucky enough to return to DC. Thanks to the owners from making this space a nice haven while touring our nation's amazing First City!!

Summer Touristing

Guest: Anonymous
Date of Stay: 07/29/10 Review Submitted: 08/06/10

Our family of four (two adults and children age 9 and 11) really appreciated our home away from home while visiting DC. Thank you. The location was fantastic for walking and using the Metro to see the monuments and museums around the National Mall. The tidy and thankfully air conditioned apartment was the perfect place to come home to after a hot day of touristing. Our kids got to unwind at the end of the day with a bit of cable tv and we enjoyed fixing our meals and sitting on the patio as it cooled down in the evening. Jarek's welcoming note and bottle of wine was a thoughtful touch to our arrival. Thanks again. Renee', Brad, Lily and Finn

Owner response:HI Renee - thank you for your nice feedback. We are very glad that you all enjoyed visiting the city and hope to see you back here soon. Jarek and Kate

We enjoyed our stay at your capitol hill apartment. Everything was exactly as you had advertised. The apartment was clean, and contained all the essentials for a very pleasant stay. Enjoyed being a part of the "Hill" neighborhood. The street was very quiet at night, and we appreciated Jarek's concern that all was well upon our arrival. Thanks!!

We loved this darling apartment and its location

My wife and I spent one week here in May and very much enjoyed it. The unit was very clean, spacious and nicely furnished. We especially enjoyed the backyard and the grill that we used numerous times during our visit (there are local farms selling fresh meat and veggies at Eastern Market and we couldn't resist). We found the owners extremely helpful and great to deal with from the time of booking to departure from DC. We loved the neighborhood, the Eastern Market and the proximity to many restaurants, shops and so much of what we were hoping to see while visiting DC. We highly recommend this unit for anyone looking to explore this historic area .

6 Sleepless nights in Capitol Hill

Guest: DC Travelers (Long Beach, CA)
Date of Stay: 05/01/10 Review Submitted: 05/11/10

I did my research and knew going in to this rental that we were on the bottom floor, but I was assuming the owners were above us, and would realize that there were people below trying to get some rest after full days of sightseeing. Not so, what we had above us sounded like a bowling alley. Given the age of the building there was no soundproofing and it was really bad. Trucks and cars seemed to be flying by all night. We experienced an unusual heat wave and I guess the thermostat was in another unit. It was advertized as having air-conditioning which we were never able to find. In that humidity you really can't open doors and windows, there is no breeze. We had a somewhat broken ceiling fan in the livingroom. The place could use some upgrades. Shower was kind of dark and spidery. Furniture and the bed needs upkeep. On our last day, check out was 11:00. We had asked for a later time since our flight back to California had been rescheduled for 3:30 but they could not accomodate us, instead we had what we think was the cleaning lady looking in our window, knocking on our door at 9am and proceeded to wait outside until we leaft at 10:45, really strange. Just an OK rental, would not stay there again.

Owner response:Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your visit. We are however even more sad that while most of the issues could have been easily sorted out by a simple phone call, we have never heard about any of these issues during your visit. As to your points: Our A/C is centrally controlled and since you were visiting in April, it was not turned on for the season as April is normally the time when AC is needed. I am sorry to hear about your experience with noise. We are located in historic neighborhood with truck restriction (trucks are not allowed in to the area due to the proximity to Capitol Building) and speed limit of 25 MPH, which means except the trash trucks, no trucks come nowhere near our house. Our upstairs unit is also rented out and both are posted on VRBO. We understand that you might not be used to city noises as well as vertical living (people living above or below you), which is something that we people living in the city become very used to as time goes by. I do agree, that anyone staying on Capitol Hill, should be prepared for street noises, police and fire sirens and other noises, included the ones from neighbors as all buildings are attached and close together. As to the late check out, we let our guests know at the time of booking the check in and check out time. We also ask everyone for their arrival and departure information and ask everyone to let us know if they need early check in or late check out. That way, we can make arrangements in advance and accommodate your travel schedule. But again, we have never heard from you about needing late check out and once our cleaners show up, it is a little too late to let us know that you might need to stay longer, which is apparently what happened. Again, we appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your visit to DC. Jarek and Kate

Great Location for Sightseeing

We had a marvelous time in D. C. The location of the rental was perfect for us as we like to walk. However, the metro is close by when needed. The accomodations were comfortable. The best feeling was being part of a wonderful neighborhood. Best of all the hosts are helpful and provided great information regarding sights to see and local neighborhood information. We would not hesitate to recommend this rental to any of our friends and relatives.
