Location: Stoupa, Peloponnese, Greece, Europe (One Hour South of Kalamata)
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 3 Baths (Sleeps 7)
This is an old traditional stone house in a Greek village in the Mani. The house has been totally refurbished yet retains a feeling of old charm. It is luxuriously appointed with all new appliances, A/C, furniture and furnishings. It is suitable for a couple with up to 5 children or 3 couples. Because of open railings on the upper terrace, it is not really suitable for small children.
The house is in a village not far from Stoupa in the Mani. This village is a "real" Greek village with very friendly neighbors. There are several tavernas serving wonderful Greek food. It is necessary to have a car to stay in our village as public transportation is very sparse.
Our village is near to the beautiful sandy beaches of touristy Stoupa (just 10 minutes away) but is a quiet and peaceful place. If you want to experience a Greek village without all the tourists yet have beaches nearby, our house is for you. The mountains behind the village are also gorgeous. Exploring some of the mountain villages is another delight of the area.
Enjoy stunning sunsets from the large terrace with a super view of the Messinian Bay! This is also the perfect place for a lovely late breakfast - fresh baked bread (wood oven) is available just around the corner.
NEW for 2010 is the addition of a new bedroom en suite in the kamara (cellar) part of the house. this beautiful new space is the best room in the house for those hot summer nights.
The main house has 2 full bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There is a separate entrace for the Kamara (cellar) bedroom with full bath.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1998
This house was a ruin when it was purchased. Today it is a wonderful 2nd home. We stay in our Greek home 2 or 3 months each year. We love the pace of life here - warm, friendly and very relaxing. Of course, Greek food is wonderful! It is great to live in a real Greek village, away from all the tourists, yet close to beaches. When we are not travelling, we live near Bethany Beach in Delaware. We just got married in August 2008 so are still "newlyweds".
Why the Owner Chose Stoupa
We lived in Europe (Yugoslavia, Germany and Greece) for over 25 years and wanted to have a place to escape to.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Total relaxation - the biggest decision of each day is which beach to go to or where to eat dinner. We love to sit on our terrace and watch the sunset. There is a small owl who appears on the rooftops at dusk each evening and we wait for him to come. We have great friends who live full time in the area, many Brits but Greeks too. Another favorite activity is walking in the mountains and exploring mountain villages.

Thank you very much to Peggy and Guy for this wonderful holiday! The house is large and very comfortable. We will long remember the beautiful sunsets seen from the terrace. Now a few words in French ...

The house & village were great and the Mani Penninsula was a fascinating place to visit. The accomodations were very comfortable. It was clean and well maintained. Peggy & Guy were very helpful in providing us with information about the area and about travel in Greece in general. The house was had a number of books and maps with information about local attractions. We spent a lot of time on the terrace enjoying the view- morning coffee & bread fresh from the bakery just down the street, evenings for dinner or just a glass of wine. The kitchen was well equiped, and we did some cooking, but the food both in the village & below in Stoupa was great so we ate out often. The history in the Mani was fascinating & we enjoyed traveling to villages nearby as well as further down the penninsula. Altogether it was a wonderful place to stay. I would highly recommend it. We look forward to going back.

Words cannot express how wonderful this house is. But let me try... The house is incredible...so roomy, so inviting, so comfortable, so perfect. The village is amazing...complete with a bakery 20 yards from the house with warm fresh bread every morning; the women sitting on stoops talking and "protecting" their village; the man on the stoop right outside making baskets and repairing caned chairs; the gardens...ooohhh the gardens...beautiful flowers hanging over the road, vegetables in straight rows growing healthy and strong; the tavernas with wonderful greek food (lamb and slouvaka and house wine!); the spring water in the village center so clean and cold... But more than the hospitality and the quiet (well, except for the rooster crowing!) is the view...we spent all of our time on the terrace of the house...drinking wine, eating fresh baked bread and overlooking the village, the beach at Stoupa and the incredible sunsets over the mountains. We just kept saying, "it doesn't get any better than this!" We could have just stayed there in the village, but we ventured out to a local beach (no tourists just beautiful pebble beach with clear blue water); to a taverna with an amazing cook, Dina, in Stoupa; down or up the road to neighboring villages, and finally to neighboring village, Proastia where we had the most amazing dinner and wine with the most welcoming village folks. It was in every way, a dream come true. Our only regret? That we only stayed 3 days. This is a place where you NEED to stay at least a week...preferably 2! It's worth the drive from Athens. If you are looking for a chance to really experience Greece...the real Greece...this is the place to go! We can't wait to go back!
