The Off-grid itHouse is an architecturally significant house, recently listed in the Los Angeles Times as one of the best houses of all time in Southern California. This is the prototype for the pre-engineered system known as the itHouse that has had much acclaim. The house is off-grid, powered by solar panels for energy and hot water, and is located in a pristine remote valley in the beautiful California high desert. The house observes key green principals of smaller footprint, minimal disturbance to the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, use of renewable resources, and living simply and minimally.

Located in Pioneertown, CA, nearby several unique attractions, Joshua Tree National Park, Pappy and Harriets Pioneertown Palace, local museums and art venues such as the Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Art Museum, the Wonder Valley Institute of Contemporary Art, the Integratron, and seasonal events such as the High Desert Test Sites and the Joshua Tree and Coachella music festivals.

The setting of the house is remote and serene, a quiet refuge from the city, free from distractions. Amazing views and vistas in all directions.

Incredible Weekend!

The house and the setting was more than we could have asked for. The house itself is the essence of cool. From the moment you see it you are amazed and impressed. There's no "fat" on this house, it has just what you need and none of the clutter that is all to prevalent in our lives. We were looking for a weekend away, just to kick back and reconnect, and this was the perfect house for it. It was so refreshing to stay in this 'glass' house, soaking in all the natural beauty of the desert and with all the adjacent rock formations they offered us incredible views. All in all it was a spectacular weekend that we will never forget! We are now trying to work in another weekend as soon as possible. Thank you for letting us share your home!

The owners graciously allowed us to hold our small wedding ceremony at the house recently, and it could not have been a more perfect setting. We were thrilled to have such a beautiful and unique location for the ceremony, and our guests were blown away by the house and the surrounding landscape. My husband and I went back the following day to spend the night, and it was the most relaxing experience either of us can recall ever having. After the weeks of stress and planning, just sitting in the living room watching the light change as the sun set over the desert, and staring at the fire we made in the fireplace, was just incredible. I can't imagine a more perfect retreat.

I have not had a more relaxing time on vacation before...the house is absolutely jaw dropping and the scenery and remoteness make this house the perfect getaway! The house was very comfortable for 2 and could easily handle 4 people. The views were amazing and the hiking around the house was great--walk out your door and on to a hike! I will most definitely be back!

Every part of this house is truly beautiful; from the architecture and décor, to the sweeping desert views from every room. The house almost seems to merge into the landscape and we had the best time hiking directly from the front door. The technology that went into the design of this house is inspiring; you are really off-grid, and yet with all the comforts you could possibly need. Thank you to the owners, who are friendly and professional and clearly made all efforts to ensure a memorable and relaxing stay. Crossing my fingers for an opportunity to go back!

This house is my idea of heaven. For you green folks, this house is completely sustainable while also being luxurious. For you design folks, I felt like I was living in Case 22- a dream come true. It's totally remote with some of the most gorgeous scenery of the surrounding desert. I hope to be back soon!

Owner response:we look forward to seeing you again!
