Owner's Profile

Owner Description

As a sourdough (lifelong Alaskan), Ron has a deep love for Alaska and the outdoors. When not selling real estate, Ron loves fishing, hunting, spending time with his family, and sharing his tales of Alaskan adventure. A “jack-of-all-trades”, Ron built the family home and has kept the family homestead cabin in tip-top shape for over forty years. Cindy, a Minnesota transplant, traveled to Alaska twenty-seven years ago for a supposed two year adventure; and, it’s been an adventure ever since! When not teaching and cheering on three children in various activities, she loves to garden, fish, ski, read, and spend time with family and friends - preferably outdoors! Our rescue black lab, young lab/retriever, and two rescue cats round out our active family. We share a deep love for this great state, and would love to help you plan your Alaskan vacation!

Why the Owner Chose Wasilla

Alaska Loon's Nest has been our family treasure since 1962. This original homesteader’s cabin was built in the 1950’s, and has been tenderly maintained by our family for over 45 years. The cabin features richly hued knotty pine throughout, with modern upgrades, while maintaining its original Alaskan history and charm. The cabin front offers expansive views of the lake and two mountain ranges, including the Hatcher's Pass area directly across from the cabin. Two decks, one lakeside and one with a gas BBQ overlooking the perennial flower beds and garden area, add to your enjoyment of this “one-of-a-kind” Alaskan setting!

The Unique Benefits of this Cabin

Come enjoy a one-of-a-kind Alaskan setting while being within minutes of major attractions and conveniences. You'll soon discover why Cottonwood Lake is still a "jewel" in the chain of lakes in the area, and why Alaska Loon's Nest seems like it's nestled in a world of its own. Watch eagles fly directly overhead on their daily flight path, visiting moose and fox, waterfowl, trumpeter swans, and my favorite, the loon. Take an early morning or late evening paddle around the lake as the loons' eerie calls echo across the water, and you'll understand why time seemingly stands still at Alaska Loon's Nest! Please note that the owner's home is next to the cabin rental.

Vacation Dream

Guest: Debbie & Bob, Tampa FL (Tampa FL)
Date of Stay: 07/04/11 Review Submitted: 10/09/11

My wife and two daughters, 8 & 10 stayed for 3 nights after a 7-day cruise. We chose this property because it was centrally located between Anchorage and Denali Park. It was a long 4-hour drive to Denali Park but we wanted the amenities that Wasilla had to offer ... restaurants and local attractions; plus it was only 45-minutes from Anchorage airport. When we drove up, I thought to myself ... Loon's Nest is more beautiful than their website pictures. Inside the cabin you have a beautiful picture window where you can have breakfast and stare out at the lake. The property is very well-maintained and what you see in pictures is what you get but there's more. The owners, Ron and Cindy, are the friendliest people and were very attentive upon our arrival. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The kitchen had all the extra things so you only needed to provide food. We needed a washer-dryer, it worked perfectly. One thing we learned was that it does not get dark in summertime Wasilla. While the bedroom could be darkened, the shades for the living room and inside porch area did not completely darken the room. It didn’t bother our daughters too much but others may have a problem sleeping in the rooms other than the bedroom. For Floridians the evening fires at their lakeside firepit which Ron graciously built for us were ideal. The cabin had the Smores necessities which my daughters loved. We had perfect weather and nice warm sun so we took out the canoe and paddleboat and spent a lot of time sitting at the dock. My daughters also took advantage the cabin's fishing poles; they didn't catch anything but it was a lot of fun. They also loved running and playing on Ron's well maintained lawn and their family trampoline. Two questions from my daughters: "Can we stay here for a month?" and "Can we come back next year?" tells you how much my family enjoyed Loon's Nest. I did tell Ron that he had my dream vacation home. We would recommend the property to any couple or small family looking for the cabin on the lake getaway.

The Loon's Nest is a Charmer!

Guest: ADACindy (Anchorage, AK)
Date of Stay: 07/21/11 Review Submitted: 07/26/11

We stayed at the Loon's Nest for 3 nights and had a blast! The owners, Ron and Cindy, were quick to provide whatever extras they saw we could use. We felt well taken care of. The cabin was lovely and the views were fantastic. We were lucky enough to have a couple of sunny days. We swam and took out the kayak and paddleboat. The property was very well-maintained and exactly as represented. We would recommend the property to any couple or small family.

Owner response:Cindy, We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. I must say that your young daughter was a pure delight to have around. Hope your parents made the best of their short stay in Alaska. Thanks again. Ron and Cindy

Debbie, Marty and family

Guest: Debbie I. (California)
Date of Stay: 09/18/10 Review Submitted: 10/05/10

Our family of 5 (2 couples and 1 single) had a fabulous time at Ron and Cindy's hideaway in Wasilla. When we first walked into the cabin we fell in love... with the view, the coziness and the Alaskan hospitality. Our canoe trip around the lake was rewarded by serenity and fall colors. In addition we encountered the loon and lots of spawning salmon. Ron was extremely helpful to us as we planned our outings. The kitchen was well-equipped and the beds and futons were very comfortable. It was a little tricky for the 5 of us to share the one bathroom. I would definitely return for another visit and would recommend this gem to another family. Thank you Ron and Cindy!!

Owner response:It was a pleasure meeting you and your family and we surely enjoyed your company. It was good see you make use of the kayaks and canoe. Hope the rest of your Alaskan trip ended well on the Kenai Pennisula.. Thanks Deb and Marty.

ALASKA LOON'S NEST A LITTLE PIECE OF PARADISE

Guest: merle and april (joshua, tx)
Date of Stay: 07/17/10 Review Submitted: 08/03/10

OUR GROUP OF FOUR STAYED 6 NIGHTS IN JULY AND HAD THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME. THE CABIN IS THE PERFECT LOCATION FOR DAY TRIPS BOTH NORTH AND SOUTH OF THE MAT SU VALLEY REGION. THE CABIN IS WARM AND WELCOMING WITH FANTASTIC VIEWS OF THE SURROUNDING LAKE AND MOUNTAIN VISTAS. THE OWNERS RON AND CINDY WERE EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND THE PERFECT HOSTS. WE WOULD HAPPILY STAY HERE AGAIN FOR OUR NEXT VISIT TO ALASKA. WE WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO SEE VISITING MOOSE ALMOST EVERY DAY OF OUR STAY.

Owner response:Merle and April, Glad you were able to take advantage of the many sights and doings in the area. Those moose ( a cow and two calves) did a midnight raid on the vegetable garden and left us about 1/3 of the produce. You were a pleasant group that we enjoyed having as quests. Thanks. Ron and cindy

Guest: John & Amy (Fox Valley, WI)
Date of Stay: 07/06/10 Review Submitted: 07/21/10

Loved the cabin and the setting. All the little things you hope are at a rental were included and thought of. Owners were friendly and helpful. Bed was quite comfortable and the photos do not do the view justice. We were lucky enough to see a pair of moose in the driveway. All in all we will definitely stay again on our next trip to Alaska.

Owner response:John & Amy, thanks so much for the review. We sure enjoyed meeting you, and hope to see you again on your next Alaskan vacation. Hope the fishing turned out well for you down Kenai way! Ron & Cindy
