Located in south central Alaska, on the shores of Cottonwood Lake in the heart of the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, Alaska Loon’s Nest Cabin Rental is centrally located between Palmer and Wasilla on seven secluded acres, yet within minutes of town and attractions. We’re only 40 minutes from Anchorage and three hours from Denali National Park. Come stay in a truly Alaskan log cabin on a pristine trout-filled floatplane sized lake, surrounded by the Talkeetna and Chugach Mountain Ranges.

Sip your coffee while listening to the call of the loon echo across the pristine waters of Cottonwood Lake. Or, sit on the dock and watch the trout jump in the evening glow of a long summer night as an eagle glides directly above. Better yet, wet a line with one of our trout poles and catch a rainbow trout for dinner. Explore the lake in the paddleboat, canoe or tandem kayak (lifejackets provided). Take a swim off our dock and soak in those warm summer days on the floating dock. Roast marshmallows and share stories around the lakeside fire pit. Relax and let time stand still!

Wintertime? Wonderland time! Watch the Aurora Borealis dance across the sky, listen to the ice take on a voice of its own as it contracts and expands, ice fish, ice skate, cross country ski, or snowmobile as conditons permit. Available October to May at monthly rates (check for winter monthly rates). Ideal for professional couples, traveling itinerants, or for temporary housing during transitions during this time.

Enjoy a place where time stands still, and breathtaking beauty abounds!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Loon's Nest villa. It was clean and neat, the bed so comfortable, and the towels plush. Although the main house is rather close next door, we rarely saw anyone and it was not an issue for our situation. Having a washer and dryer makes packing a breeze! The views are amazing and constantly changing, the sunsets lovely and I even saw a few sunrises, which were equally beautiful. It has easy access to town and the highways and is not too far from anywhere. I highly recommend this villa and will stay here again when I return to Alaska.

The cabin was everything that was advertised and the views of the lake and surrounding area was much more breathtaking in person than the photos could portray. The accommodations were very clean and well maintained and the owners were always nearby to answer questions, offer fishing tips, as well as sightseeing recommendations. I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting to relax in a beautiful setting that has plenty of shopping centers and restaurants within 15 minutes away. There was lots of local fishing, as well as ocean fishing in Prince William Sound just 2 hours away. I hope to get back someday; it was a wonderful trip!

We just recently spent 8 days in Alaska at this cabin. The location and view were magnificient. The cabin had everything we could ever need. Was very clean and well maintained. The landscaping and flowers were awesome. The owners of the cabin were very helpful and made sure that everything was to our satisfaction during our stay. Fishing, boating, campfires were all available. Very quiet and secluded. The view from the enclosed deck where the kitchen table is located was unbelievable. To sit and eat and see that view daily was something I will remember. I would definitley recommend this cabin to rent.

My wife and I stayed with Ron and Cindy for a week in Aug. 2011..My only complaint is that my wife out fished me almost everyday.. The location was great.. no traffic, beautiful lake, close to town with plenty of dining options. The welcome gift of Ron's own personally smoked salmon and then him supplying us with a large salmon fillet when we told him we wanted to do some cooking....perfect. all in all we had an amazing week and were considering trying to get the Loon's Nest again for our 10 year anniversery..Thanks Ron and Cindy!

My wife and two daughters, 8 & 10 stayed for 3 nights after a 7-day cruise. We chose this property because it was centrally located between Anchorage and Denali Park. It was a long 4-hour drive to Denali Park but we wanted the amenities that Wasilla had to offer ... restaurants and local attractions; plus it was only 45-minutes from Anchorage airport. When we drove up, I thought to myself ... Loon's Nest is more beautiful than their website pictures. Inside the cabin you have a beautiful picture window where you can have breakfast and stare out at the lake. The property is very well-maintained and what you see in pictures is what you get but there's more. The owners, Ron and Cindy, are the friendliest people and were very attentive upon our arrival. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The kitchen had all the extra things so you only needed to provide food. We needed a washer-dryer, it worked perfectly. One thing we learned was that it does not get dark in summertime Wasilla. While the bedroom could be darkened, the shades for the living room and inside porch area did not completely darken the room. It didn’t bother our daughters too much but others may have a problem sleeping in the rooms other than the bedroom. For Floridians the evening fires at their lakeside firepit which Ron graciously built for us were ideal. The cabin had the Smores necessities which my daughters loved. We had perfect weather and nice warm sun so we took out the canoe and paddleboat and spent a lot of time sitting at the dock. My daughters also took advantage the cabin's fishing poles; they didn't catch anything but it was a lot of fun. They also loved running and playing on Ron's well maintained lawn and their family trampoline. Two questions from my daughters: "Can we stay here for a month?" and "Can we come back next year?" tells you how much my family enjoyed Loon's Nest. I did tell Ron that he had my dream vacation home. We would recommend the property to any couple or small family looking for the cabin on the lake getaway.

The Loon's Nest was a perfect retreat for our family - from the spacious, well-appointed cabin to the dock on the lake with kayak and fishing poles provided! Our family of 5 (2 couples and 1 single) had a fabulous time at Ron and Cindy's hideaway in Wasilla. When we first walked into the cabin we fell in love... with the view, the coziness and the Alaskan hospitality. Our canoe trip around the lake was rewarded by serenity and fall colors. In addition we encountered the loon and lots of spawning salmon. Ron was extremely helpful to us as we planned our outings. The kitchen was well-equipped and the beds and futons were very comfortable. It was a little tricky for the 5 of us to share the one bathroom. I would definitely return for another visit and would recommend this gem to another family. Thank you Ron and Cindy!!

Owner response: Merle and April, Glad you were able to take advantage of the many sights and doings in the area. Those moose ( a cow and two calves) did a midnight raid on the vegetable garden and left us about 1/3 of the produce. You were a pleasant group that we enjoyed having as quests. Thanks. Ron and cindy

About the owner: As a sourdough (lifelong Alaskan), Ron has a deep love for Alaska and the outdoors. When not selling real estate, Ron loves fishing, hunting, spending time with his family, and sharing his tales of Alaskan adventure. A “jack-of-all-trades”, Ron built the family home and has kept the family homestead cabin in tip-top shape for over forty years. Cindy, a Minnesota transplant, traveled to Alaska almost thirty years ago for a supposed two year adventure; and, it’s been an adventure ever since! When not teaching and cheering on three children in various activities, she loves to garden, fish, ski, read, and spend time with family and friends - preferably outdoors! Our rescue black lab, young lab/retriever, and two rescue cats round out our active family. We share a deep love for this great state, and would love to help you plan your Alaskan vacation!

                          Why the Owner Chose Wasilla:
Alaska Loon's Nest has been our family treasure since 1962. This original homesteader’s cabin was built in the 1950’s, and has been tenderly maintained by our family for over 45 years. The cabin features richly hued knotty pine throughout, with modern upgrades, while maintaining its original Alaskan history and charm. The cabin front offers expansive views of the lake and two mountain ranges, including the Hatcher's Pass area directly across from the cabin. Two decks, one lakeside and one with a gas BBQ overlooking the perennial flower beds and garden area, add to your enjoyment of this “one-of-a-kind” Alaskan setting!

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Come enjoy a one-of-a-kind Alaskan setting while being within minutes of major attractions and conveniences. You'll soon discover why Cottonwood Lake is still a 'jewel' in the chain of lakes in the area, and why Alaska Loon's Nest seems like it's nestled in a world of its own. Watch eagles fly directly overhead on their daily flight path, visiting moose and fox, waterfowl, trumpeter swans, and my favorite, the loon. Take an early morning or late evening paddle around the lake as the loons' eerie calls echo across the water, and you'll understand why time seemingly stands still at Alaska Loon's Nest! Please note that the owner's home is next to the cabin rental.
